Hey, I have a question. I want to stop using electronics as often but the issue is that it’s the only time I get to interact with friends often. Usually they’re too tired in school to fully converse with and I only have them for a single period. So our usual method is chatting over phone and calling after school. What should I do? Practice to start looking out for myself more?
Just sitting through this entire video was hard. Its like my brain recoils from anything designed to disrupt the way it operates. I'm trying to study for a series of certifications I need to get this job I want but I feel like I'm too far gone. Not making much meaningful progress and by the time I pick it back up again, I've forgotten some of what I learned previously which is also discouraging. Immediate gratification always wins the day over achieving long term goals.
same man, it was like my head is saying to me: 'You don't have to seat through this, i'm doing okay, i'm wasting my time watching this video.' But i hope this video will help me.
You're so right! I've noticed that I am sluggish and dull on days when I browse IG in the morning. And I get less accomplished on those days. I've been trying to relegate 30 minutes to browse IG in the evenings, but the great thing is that when it gets to that time, more often than not, I feel the drive to read a book or cook or solve a puzzle instead. I don't need another hit of dopamine!
1:45 : Back in the days of magazines, it was called the “Cosmo Effect”. Cosmopolitan, a women’s magazine, constantly sent out a message - a fake one - that the women in the magazine achieved more than you. Social media - and television - do this as well. The more of this you cut out (or selectively watch), the better off you will be. And keep that journal or tracker to remind yourself that you’re not doing badly, either! Thanks for the video!
Very helpful video, thank you. I especially liked the phrase ', Consider the cost of inaction', I've already written it down and am going to place it in a prominent location in my home to motivate me to do my exercises 😁
yeah i want to go months without my social media (not sure if youtube counts) so i can graduate on time, but it’s hard when i have a phone addiction and i’m doing school remote 😵💫
@Mr Snaps set a limit. Start small and try to work up each day. If you’ve got an iPhone, you can see how much time you spend on each app on average and set a limit before the phone tells you to stop.
Regarding this subject, I can really recommend Andrew Hubermans channel/podcast here on UA-cam. He is a neurobiologist discussing the details of this. The videos are very long, but really informative if you have the time.
I want to start from here, and train myself to join my favorite company that requires me to learn stats, cs, derivatives, mental math all at once. I’m comment again if I made this. Thank you for the inspiration!
Yoooo, this video diagnoses my current day to day 100%!! Wow... Nice to know it has a name, this feeling of mine, and that my situation has been worked on and thought through by someone else that understands the situation im in! 🙏🏽👍🏽
This also works the other way around. I use IG to deliberately give myself dopamine hits when I am experiencing episodes of depression. It doesn't 'cure' me but it does make a measurable difference to my mood and help me recover without the use of anti-depressants. Great video, thank you.
Good points. Given the choice of slogging through something difficult but meaningful, and enjoying something easy but ultimately meaningless, it's easy to do the latter. I need to cut off my easy, meaningless things (social media, games) so I can't turn to them.
Are there people who don’t get a dopamine rush from social media posts? When I get notifications about having new emails or Facebook posts, I often just feel annoyed. Maybe because most of them are from people I hardly know? And instagram? Yikes! Who wants those visual sound bites all the time? I hate instagram.
I realised how badly my social media addiction was affecting my functioning and went on a news fast. For one week, no news, social media, etc. It transformed my life. I can live without Twitter and I might glance at the news headlines at the end of the day, just to keep up with the bigger items. This stuff doesn't rule my life anymore and my concentration levels have shot up.
i don't care about social media but I do care about my music. I think being aware of your self talk while doing (or thinking about) a task is crucial. If you say/feel constantly negative things then your going to avoid.
DLPA has helped me. It's an amino acid naturally found in foods and is used to build dopamine and the other catecholamines. It also boosts your enkephalins and endorphins, making you feel more at ease and alleviating any pain you may be dealing with.
"When a book is adapted into a film I'd stalk the actors on instagram", this is me rn with Dune, meanwhile I'm stuck trying to finish the fourth book God Emperor, even though I flew through the first three books in one week.
Understandable.... But social media is UA-cam, Instagram, Facebook, dating sites, Twitter.... Practically anything online that involves getting or receiving information currently
This is going to take a while for me trick my brain into liking hard things myself. The information I am given is so complex, I could barely understand it.
Wow this is great but I do think quitting technology all together might not be the best idea. Technology is the dome of knowledge. Yes quit social media and video games but thats all you literally probably need to do. Use the internet to learn a new skill, a hobby like playing the piano or learning arabic. Its so good for these things.
Summary: The video discusses how to trick your brain into liking hard things. The speaker talks about feeling discouraged or frustrated when others talk about their productivity, while you struggle with simple tasks. The speaker suggests that the reason behind this could be the high dopamine tolerance level in your brain. Dopamine is what makes you desire things and boosts your mood, motivation, and attention. Social media addiction involves broken reward pathways in our brains. The video suggests strategies to balance out dopamine levels, such as cutting out all social media for one day a week, focusing on your breath, taking a break, and doing something creative. By using these strategies, you can trick your brain into liking hard things and become more productive.
Love your videos. Thank you for your effort. Just one thing...the outro is always very loud compared to the rest of the video. I've always to be fast turning down the volume. =D
Unfortunately, humanity is used by technology. And this is because we are socially underdeveloped. People try to find through social media and other uses of Internet today what they feel they can't find out in life. Emotion, connection.
Great video as always brotha! Quick question, How did you grow your channel at the very very start? I feel like my content could b extremely valuable for people but don't know how to get those initial first viewers to get the ball rolling.
watching this video was uncomfortable. I felt itchy and my body was hurting for some reason. I guess my brain doesnt like anything distrupting its dopamine levels huh
Question: I am using this video to learn while I work out. Can we use this in multitasking and for good reason? I don't use Instagram or Facebook, but I am always on UA-cam, but 95% of it is educational content.
The only problem with watching youtube videos even though it's educational is if you don't act what you learned from it. Action is better than watching videos. You have to limit the time you spend in watching YT videos.
Marshmallow experiment comes to mind. Thanks for the great watch, so easy to forget the powerful effects of dopamine and rather tell ourselves that we're just lazy.
I like this video. bcos it made me listen for good solutions unfortunately it doesn't hv any it doesn't hv bcos done it & doesn't work rationalising it is not the answer if it was then we'd no problems everybody knows all the key things you a good life to me the answer comes from dopamine get it from other sources ... good sources ... like when you help others when you recycle when you park for free or cheap far away & walk to mtg ... etc make it your own baby own it all mothers experience this they become the loving, busiest, focused, efficient creature after their own ... no more rational intellectual exercise on what is good ... Must Get to Action ... baby has needs to be met 😁 doing the hard is an (easy/no-brainer) no-choice option !
I doubt this. We eat cookies due to quick higher amount of calories. When is life ever so simple to be "dopamine". Life is complex, there's many reason technology is used. As somebody who recently started my tech career, I spend 10 hours a day on screens. Yet I've now started reading books and I've moved to stretching more. Surely I'd be put off reading books? Nothing is a simple as dopamine😂
There is also other stuff. Trauma can predispose people to have a strong dopamine response. Also as we age we are better able to self regulate if we've been taught the basics when younger especially if it's been rolemodelled to us (saying this as someone who finally got into exercise in her 40s despite it being really hard because of my disability)
Realy one sided story in this video. I tryed this path and is good for a while in life but after that what that gets you is you combat the things you did more and more and they become less interesting until you find nothing to make you happy, you just don't care anymore for anything, is gona be a routine in the day to day life, the goals you want to acchieve will be harder and harder until you figure out that not all goals can be achievable and that most of the things in life you can not control. When you find out this you will care less and less.

But i hope this video will help me.
i was literally multi"tasking" while listening lmao..
So cut out the things that distract me from the banality of life, to do things i don't want to do. Gotcha. Didn't think it was any other way
This channel is giving me the tough love I need.

One of the best video's in UA-cam. The topics are highly related to our day to day life.
My first challenge was closing the comments and watching the whole video without turning my attention somewhere else ☺️💖💖💖
Technology dulls your senses . Anything else is boring in comparison.
It’s a vehicle that leads to mass mind control we’re a bunch WiFi feens
yeah i want to go months without my social media (not sure if youtube counts) so i can graduate on time, but it’s hard when i have a phone addiction and i’m doing school remote 😵💫

Perfectly put

Thank you!
Thanks for recommending that! I subscribed 🕯💛👍🏼
One thing is to give yourself incentive as you’d do with anything else . I’ll do this before I get on this ….. delay the gratification.
I want to start from here, and train myself to join my favorite company that requires me to learn stats, cs, derivatives, mental math all at once. I’m comment again if I made this. Thank you for the inspiration!

Great advice, I quit social media and will never look back
I realised how badly my social media addiction was affecting my functioning and went on a news fast. For one week, no news, social media, etc. It transformed my life. Thank you so much for this video. I´m finna do the cold turkey method right now.
We’re all gonna make it, good luck😎👍
Love the vid mate. There was a great in-depth huberman lab podcast on this 👌🏽
DLPA has helped me. It's an amino acid naturally found in foods and is used to build dopamine and the other catecholamines. It also boosts your enkephalins and endorphins, making you feel more at ease and alleviating any pain you may be dealing with.
It’s a good video when I take notes. Notes were taken.
I absolutely love your work.
It’s beautiful and amazingly helpful.
How can I best support you?

Killer video! Reminded me of a recent Art of Manliness podcast episode!👍😊
I remember being 18 and not being able to stay off social media. Now at 29 i want nothing to do with it.

Next video - once you've achieved your goals, now we need to not enjoy them too much...
Great video 👍🏾👍🏾
Big thanks my dear friend💐
A week passed i haven't used my insta ,now I don't feel the need .happy with reading manga and books 😄
That’s so crazy, less than an hour ago I asked myself this same question 🤯😳

Fantastic video! I am using apps like StayFree and Stay Focused to limit and/or block my consumption of certain apps. Still not easy!
thank you
Fantastic video 📹 👏 👌 dopamine is habit forming therefore it's very much like a drug. Reading can become a drug too! 🤣
Great video as always brotha! Quick question, How did you grow your channel at the very very start? I feel like my content could b extremely valuable for people but don't know how to get those initial first viewers to get the ball rolling.

My recent update gives me a usage summary. I was spending 30hrs week on UA-cam 😲
How do I get more do
This is good but the issue is what happens when we’re not following the news as much
Conclusion: don’t do things that makes you feel good, just do the hard things.
Incorrect. Conclusion is train yourself to delay your gratification by lowering your threshold of dopamine.
i am unemployed ... so i try to do many things.. many work arround the house, study new things, so i wont feel guilty of being unemployed.
amazing video
Liking hard things that’s like a Saiyan mentality
The sound and his voice in this video is distracting and unclear... I hate that because it's such good information 💕
I guess I am not doing it right by listening to this in the background while I also doing work.
Thanks
tl;dr:
associate dopamine with the process of working toward a goal, not with the outburst results of the work
the end.
Question: I am using this video to learn while I work out. Can we use this in multitasking and for good reason? I don't use Instagram or Facebook, but I am always on UA-cam, but 95% of it is educational content.
As long as your making action on what you learned
The only problem with watching youtube videos even though it's educational is if you don't act what you learned from it. Action is better than watching videos. You have to limit the time you spend in watching YT videos.
100% facts🤯
Marshmallow experiment comes to mind. Thanks for the great watch, so easy to forget the powerful effects of dopamine and rather tell ourselves that we're just lazy.
5:30 7:15
How do I get more dopamine? I need to get the desire to clean my house. The desired to get my body to move more.
If the people around you wrote 9 books or have read 75 or anything like that, you're probably in a good place already.
TahX
this is literally me....
Basically bashing everything associated with modernity
I like this video. bcos it made me listen for good solutions
unfortunately it doesn't hv any
it doesn't hv bcos done it & doesn't work
rationalising it is not the answer
if it was then we'd no problems
everybody knows all the key things you a good life
to me the answer comes from dopamine
get it from other sources ...
good sources ... like when you help others
when you recycle
when you park for free or cheap far away & walk to mtg ... etc
make it your own baby
own it
all mothers experience this
they become the loving, busiest, focused, efficient creature after their own ...
no more rational intellectual exercise on what is good ...
Must Get to Action ... baby has needs to be met 😁
doing the hard is an (easy/no-brainer) no-choice option !
Why does this seem to have been recorded at a faster speed? Sighhhhhhhhhh
True its like 1.10x faster
I don’t think this is actually a human- I think the channel owner uses a bot for the voiceover. (Since there’s never any annunciation)
How to trick other people’s brain into liking hard things?
Waah

Sounds like *you* took it to an extreme.
Sorry I no English
For someone that has put dozens of videos about motivation and productivity, admitting addiction to Insta is kinda of sus. Another walking fraud lmao
How so?
The scripts for these vids are written by various people.
If you watch until the end you'll see a different person responsible for writing each video.
Guess one didn't even pay attention to that.
Also wondering how admitting to having a problem relates to not being possible to post about productivity...
Thanks
