- In this video I'm going to install a set of Trygg Ice and Forestry chains on my Kioti DK45 tractor. These studded diamond pattern chains are made in Norway and should make a big difference this winter. Bring on the snow!

For those that just didn't get it... I was JOKING about the metric system. I know it's used everywhere. =)

Yeah! A fellow Norseman. My mother was born in Norway and came to America with her family when she was only 11 months old. While on the voyage to America, my grandmother suffered many days with seasickness and we were told that a nice Italian immigrant lady helped care for my mother and her two sisters.
Thank you for the video and all the comments. I'm in the process of ordering these chains and feel good about them. Our driveway is a quarter mile all up hill to the house with a 19% grade in places. We had 4 1/2 feet of snow in 2 days last winter. They say it doesn't happen every year. However we will be ready this year. Even have a new tractor to us , 4710 John Deere. Again thank you

I am glad you got full floating chains on your tractor, they are so much nicer to drive on, getting rid of that jumping up and down when driving. Much more comfortable, and they give better traction too. I am originally from Norway with tractors as a hobby. I hope you will enjoy your chains.
great video. The tighter your chains, the less they wear and better they grip. i recommend deflating the tire some, installing and reinstalling. If you do that it will take out any slack (even the slack you had when finished). I have the same chains and love them.

Hi i have the same tractor and same trygg rear and a front set and i love it very good in forest too for logging
Nice video and chain set. I place my chains on the ground like you did then I drive the tractor over the chains, tie them on to the wheel then back the tractor up and the chains roll onto the tires with out having to stop and start 4 or 5 times to keep straightening them out. and you can do both sides at the same time.
I have 2 sets for my pick-up truck from trygg and love them. Now all you need is a set for the front

Me like! I have to work alone so your method of getting the chains onto the tires is really good. You get them centered as you go. I do have one suggestion - do with it as you like... When I'm trying to get the clevis into the links (and sometimes the latch lever) I use a ratchet style load binder to pull the two ends together. The ratchet style allows me to pull the ends and then still have both hands free to work. I'm now 75yo and not as strong as I used to be - every little bit helps.

Thanks for showing us how to add chains to a tractor . Trygg Ice and Forestry chains look to be a good product . Just watched your video on scraping the ruts on your driveway and I see that you're are very happy with those chains .

I have a set and they are the cats meow. Great traction and once they are on they don't move around. They have wicket traction. I have a video on them on my channel. I am on steep hills blowing snow and I hardly even need 4 wheel drive.
There is a couple words of caution... 1. if they do spin they will rip up a driveway or badly scratch and gouge pavement. 2. you could flip a tractor over in the right situation. 3. brush gets caught up in them and can wrap around and take out your hydro lines.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Perfect timing for that Modoki El Nino we may have. ??? Good investment either way. I put a pool in, rained all summer. Bought a snowmobile, no snow. Wore sneakers all winter. BUT....this past winter I rode my Wooly's off and this summer I swam like Nemo. Hope you have the same luck! Your winters are much colder and a lot snowier than Lakeview NY. Your guaranteed for some type of adventure.
lol...I was thinking the same way. Buy the chains and end up with no snow.
You won't need 4 wheel drive, I have run this same chain for over 20 years and never got stuck, Maine winters here

I be glad when its cold enuf for you to use those chains. We have alot rain comming from the storm in the Southern part of Ga. Maybe after we'll have some huntin weather. Nice tractor you have .

I have solid wheels and industrial tires on my tractor. I just use my skidsteer with forks on and set the chain over the tire and adjust from there. I will say there should be no movement of the chain once mounted. I put my chains on impossibly tight, or at least it feels that way. I see people running loose chains all the time and it just bothers the hell out of me. Thanks for the video. P.S. get a large set of chain pliers to remove links as needed, don't just leave excess chain hanging remove it or it will tear something up.

I bet those chains weren’t cheap. I was surprised how much a good set of skid steer chains cost, a cool grand or more for a set of four but I need them, my skid is stuck on the driveway in the snow right now. :(

Great video. I like your technique however my tractor won't roll forward without a driver because I still have a safety switch😜under my seat. Thanks for the tips. I would love to see that tractor pushing snow with those knarly chains.
Those chains are awesome! I have plenty of videos clearing snow on really icy surfaces...no problems at all.
Most countries use the Metric system, it's really easy. Everything is divisible by 10, water freezes at zero and boils at 100*C.

Just subscribed to your channel. There is a lot of interesting stuff to watch on your channel! I am a tractor enthusiast and I like to cut and split wood (can be seen on my channel). If you haven't used the Trygg chains before, you will be surprised. You will love it. It has nothing to do with the common ladder chain. It's 10 times more effective. This is what I have on my Case 430 (2wd) and ice is absolutely not a problem, even in very steep grounds. I keep them year long. Like the name suggest, they are good for winter and for logging! Thanks for sharing!
Really nice style of chain. Nice that they are built specific for your tire. It seems USA bought chains are only cut to size and the cross chain part do not always work out well

This how we Vikings do it, you are safe both in snow and ice, and you can drive thru the woods out in the bush easy like that, only problem are pure black asphalt. Nice little Kioti you got there, but why have'nt you a tractor with cabin ?
My ancestors were from Scandinavia. They are great chains. I've had them for 3 years now. No cab on the tractor because I find it restricts my view a bit and in the woods it's just easier to get around without one.
After the winter you will be able to give an honest opinion on the new chains!
How long have you live in the cabin?
I was going to buy those for my tractor but they cost more because I have a full size tractor.
I had real difficulty with steering because of front tires on icy slope slipping, so I bought chains for only front tires because that's what always spins in any video I watch. Should be great in the forest as well this Spring. Of course it hasn't snowed much since I bought the chains in December 😂
I know what you mean. So Chains on the front will help with steering for sure. Normally Chains go on the rear tires because you will get better traction then if you are having problems steering on icy surfaces use the tractors independent brakes. 🍺

Love your videos. My husband wants some chains for his tractor. We also live in Downeast Maine. Can you let us know where we can get some chains either local or where can I order some. My husband liked the ones you have put on. Please let me know where I can get some for his tractor. My husband every year says he needs to buy chains and well never does. I will order some or buy them. Keep on making your videos we like to see them especially since we are in Maine. Thank You
Best thing to do is contact some local tractor dealers and they can order them in for you. My only advice is to stay away from Chinese chains. They might be a bit cheaper but they are junk. They might be ok for the first year or two but they will tend to stretch and wear easy due to the poor quality steel. I like the Trygg chains because they custom build them to fit your exact tire size and they are high quality.
Omg is your google broke.. Start with the big red name on the box convert it from metric to inches because there's only two countries that use the metric system. it'll be much easier to order.

That's how I've always done it, but I'm looking for a different method. Mine are much lighter than his, so I'm going to start by draping them down from the top.
Just installed the same chains on my Kioti CK4010 this past weekend. I followed the instruction that told me to shorten the chains before install. Once I had them wrap on the tire, I realized that they were a good 6 inches too short. grrrrr!!!! Had to reinstall the section I had removed. Went OK afterward but still puzzled as to why they did not fit when shortened to my tire size according to instructions
That's what I like about the Trygg chains, they custom make them to fit your size and model of tire. They fit like a glove.
I have yet to speak to anyone that had a bad thing to say about the Kioti. I have the 2510 with the back hoe attachment and I love the thing.
Same here. When I bought it 10 years ago I was weary but it's been an excellent tractor.

My chains have 5 keepers on one side and one keeper on the other side.
Good luck with the snow chains. Don't think I need them in East Texas. We get a dusting of snow about every 5-10 years.

Any chains for the front ? I always had them on the JD 750, really helps when backing up in the slick stuff. Are you going to weight the back or are the tires already loaded ? Good video and thanks !

@@NB88 What ever happened with your front tires. Looks like you said four years ago you'd try just the rear tire chains to start with. I've got a Kubota B2650 and getting a plow attachment for the front loader arm. I'm told I may not have enough power to plow but right now I can't find good quality chains for the front tires. I just received my Trygg rear tire chains a couple days ago and will install them this week. Do I need chains on the front tires? I would think it would help with the front loader blade and especially with some steep sections on a hill on the driveway. Thank you.
@@mattsedlacek9068 I don't need chains for the front. Those trygg rear chains give me all the traction i could ever want. And I have a pretty serious hill and it's usually icy. I'm impressed with mine. I did a number of videos on them. So I think for traction you'll be fine but as for power I guess that depends on how much snow you get. My tractor has 2x the HP as yours.
@@NB88 Ok, thanks. I talked to several sales people and none of them warned me about not having enough power with that tractor. They were perfectly happy to talk about blades and to sell one (many don't have them in stock now in December) but none of them said anything about the potential power issue. A friend told me that I might not have enough power for deeper snow so we will see. I'll still get the blade. Got the chains and will put them on this week. Thank you.
Should be a huge improvement Dale,still think a angle blade on the front instead of the bucket would cut your road snow clearing time in half,you have a quick detach on the front?

Interesting job. We don’t get a lot of snow in the UK. Rain & wind is our usual but it’s good to see u are preparing for winter.,do u not need some kind of cab on the tractor. All the ones here have either a roll bar or a cab ?
No cab for me. I use it in the woods and a cab would just get wrecked. I have to dress for the -20 to -30 weather though..lol

No, I didn't have to install any spacers. Lots of room on my tractor. I have the DK45.

Do you ever have any issues with the front wheels sliding while driving across an incline with those ag tires? I have industrials on mine an forget trying to turn on a hill in the snow. It will usually go the opposite way lol
No, not usually, I mean ice is ice but normally they have pretty good traction with 4wd.

What are the pros and cons of studed chains verses triple bar or V bar chains?
The studs are the most aggressive and give you the best traction. Of course this means you definitely don't want to use them on asphalt. And I always take them off in summer cause they tear up my gravel road.

yes, these are studded chains so they would tear up your asphalt. But you can get them without the studs and they would probably make a big difference for you.

I have and I have some does coming in but no bucks behind them yet. Oct 29 it begins. The deer population is dropping, meanwhile Bear and Moose are everywhere.

How are you able to move the tractor forward while not sitting in the seat? Mine automatically kills the engine, in gear, when I get up from the seat.
ah yes. That tractor has an HST transmission. I would never go back to a geared transmission.
But its a bit risky to be able to move the tractor from NOT in the seat. Just sayin. Mine has a hydrostatic transmission but has a safety switch under the seat. Yours does not?
@@rogerhale6404 No, there's no safety switch under the seat. Honestly I never once thought there was any danger in the last 10 years. But I see what you're saying. I guess there's a chance the pedal could stick or something.
