As a poor child that loved to draw, I used what I had. Typically a school notebook and a ballpoint pen. Pencils are cheaper but I didn't always have a sharpener. And the eraser would eventually/quickly disappear so a pen was my only real option. Starting that way and being self taught was incredibly satisfying. Tough but satisfying. You HAVE TO have a plan and you cannot make mistakes. Not wanting to start over after mistakes forced me to be diligent with each pen stroke. I think drawing with ink is something every artist should work on. You really learn to see the big picture and it feels like you're actually creating rather than experimenting. Marvel and Loomis techniques have their place but I don't feel as connected when I know that I'll eventually erase half of what I've put down. Nowadays I draw with graphite pencils because my hands are older and tire faster (pencils are lighter and glide better) but it was that start with ink that gave me the foundation I have today. There's more realism in what I draw and again, there is a very real connection to what I put down because of it.
I thought it was criminal that this comment had no response. Thank you for sharing, it definitely sounds like a satisfying but difficult journey to become a pen master. Would love to see some of your work!
I used to draw using ballpoints but I ran out of patience with it because ink blotting was a huge issue...I dunno if it was pen brand issue or I just don't know how to use them properly...but I do agree that ballpoint pen drawings are cool as ever.
Do you make it from scratch? I mean, starting with a pen since the sketch? And also, are you using a ref and copying it or you are using a ref and creating from this ref? (I’m asking because since you are using just pen, for someone who is creating something from scratch or creating but using refs, not copying 1/1, is bizarrely insane with that quality.
Thanks! In this case, the only ref I used was the body (which is quite complex) and the face. The rest of it is made from scratch with pencil and once the whole scheme is fixed I start applying the ink
I can 100% smell this artwork. All that ink (also, it’s gorgeous)
The drawing was already so detailed. But with that shading with a ballpoint pen.. Mind blowing!🤯👏👏🔥🔥
And I have to wonder how many pens were used in this drawing.
That's the most beautiful thing i ever seen in my life.
big respect for the needed patience!!! impressive work and result!!
This is absolutely insane
Hand drawn is always better.
of course! because AI is rubbish.
❤🤘✌️
Okay boomer. Thanks.
@@number1forthewinpeople spend the same amount of time looking at Ai or hand drawn images. A glance of a few seconds.

How long did it take?
About a week or so 👌
How long did that take?
About a week for this type of drawing is the most normal scenario
@JoaquinRodriguezArt WOW. You're extremely talented. Id buy a book of your art.
I used to have this exact pen and I loved it so much I wore the name and ran all the ink out. Would anyone in the comments know what pen this is?
Pentel Superb and Bristol paper 👌🙏
Hello sir, please tell me what paper(brand/ texture) and pen( brand/ model) are you use? Thanks you!
