I've been struggling to circular breath for 2 years...I can't begin to tell you the frustration! I've watched so many videos and been taught by many players in person, and NOBODY COMPARES TO YOU! Now I'm confident I'll be circular breathing within a week or less. You have a gift for teaching. Thank you for sharing it so freely. May you be blessed
@@annaluminalyra5695 how long did it take you since the comment you wrote? Ive been praticing a lot of didg and try to daily circular breathing partice but still have a hard time doing it, espically compared to the fact that i can make sick beats/rythms (that then only lasts 20-30 sec before i gotta stop for a quick breathe.
This is one fantastic lesson. When I saw previous videos, I thought that I should be able to circular breathe after 10min practise. I was very disappointed when I couldn't! At 3:51, Dave says "keep doing it, keep doing it, keep doing it". After following that advice, and 3 months later, I can circular breathe. Can't believe it!
OMG I watched like 20 videos on circular breathing... This so far is the only video that it clicked. Within the first 2 minutes of the video I could circular breathe. THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are a wonderful teacher!

@@BreathwoodI agree completely with Emily, this is the finest instructional content on UA-cam for my Didgeridoo practice, thank you Breathwood, subbed and will share with anyone I encounter who shares interest in these topics! Very nice work teaching :)
I've played didge casually for nearly ten years, but I've never gotten any good. I've known about your channel since I started playing, but until today I had never used your videos to practice rhythms. This was super helpful! Thanks David!
I'm a new Didjeridoo player & have taken payed classes here in Brisbane. I've found breathwood to be a great help to my learning. My ultimate goal is to be able to play like David & others who are masters at playing the Didjeridoo.
Wonderful, thank you, just gotten back into this, had my didge’s for twenty years but have never put a sustained effort into practising circular breathing, with your tips I’m sure I’ll get there ☺️
Loving your manner and loving my didge... Circular breathing in small patches for the first time after being practicing for around 6 years... Admittedly not as often as I should.... This made complete sense to me.... Thank you so much from sunny South Africa 🌞🙏🌀
Totally awesome teaching mate. This is the BEST video I have seen on YT so far, regarding breaking down how to circular breath, to it's simplest form. Well done.
Hi man! I'm Seba from Argentina. I loved this video. I had never played an instrument, and when I came across the sound of the didgeridoo, I fell in love with it. But I ended up buying it just a week ago. And particularly this video, of all others I have seen, was the one that truly explained clear enough. I'll start practicing right now and keep on watching your videos. You rock! Thanks a lot
That in the nose and out the mouth had that things in my throat going . First time everWith all the people I’ve followed I’ve had a recognisable result . Thanks cobber.
Thanks man, I'm doing it 🙂👍! I watched your video yesterday was practicing a bit without didge and this morning it clicked. I'm happy. Also your other video was useful, the one explaining that circular breathing is not correct term. It's more like continuous contraction and sound.
This is so good mate. I've just bought my second Didg, an A sharp and its so deep and resonant. I have been playing for two years and can produce good drone, harmonics and all sorts of percussive sounds and basic circular breathing with breaks but have found the constant circular breath tricky. This is a nice way to understand it. :)
Luckily being a brass player I started on the didge with a very good drone so circular breathing came a bit faster, I was so happy when I finally made a continuous sound while circular breathing.
Τhank you David!!! I did the circular breathing after a few minutes!!! Then I realized how important it is to use the diaphragm so the vibration is not interrupted. My next step is to learn to maintain better breathing reserves for a maximum duration. Do you have a video with tips on this?
Greetings from Pasadena. Great vid. Really trying to get this. Any advice if I have a deviated septum and stuffy nose n it's hard to get quick shots of air in. Thanks bro
Yes! At first, everyone tends to inhale too sharply/strongly, and that dries out the nose for sure. As time goes on, breathing becomes more relaxed, and the dryness goes away. Drool, well.... that can end up being a problem for a lot longer. It depends on what one eats before playing, and what happens when one gets nervous, and other factors I probably can't even think of. It does get easier to manage over time, though. Good luck!
Awsome video very useful to me I think it is helpin me a lot, as Bkak I was working a lot on the ciruclar breathing. But with your technique of taking regular but short breath, i often end up with too much air in the lungs. how cani improve this? also i can hear my breathing a lot and it makes a kinda "WAP"... any tip?
this is soooo good, thank you man! I had a really hard time breathing in exclusively with my nose, there was always some air coming in through my mouth, so on the inhale, I started covering my mouth with my hand during the inhale. That helped. I also got light headed pretty quickly, but that's getting better. Thanks again
That's the trick - how to switch from nose breath to lung breath again. The key is to start blowing again while still squeezing air from the cheeks/mouth so that there's some overlap!
nice videos man! good support and mood you put into them. I have a problem and might not fit in this video but here it comes: when I spend more than 2 min playing and trying to keep the circular breathing it happens that my lips get too wet and I lose the capability of playing one sound. Any tips for that? Lots of thanks and keep it up. ;)
Hey, thanks for the nice comments! I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I asked my teacher the same question when I first started. Here are a couple of thoughts.... First, he said that the wetness would eventually go away, just from playing and giving my mouth a chance to get used to it. He was right. Eventually the amount of saliva I produced decreased. It is mental as much as physical! But second, I have noticed that the more I move my tongue, the more saliva I get. So I vary the amount that I use my tongue in various rhythms. Other than this, it is completely unique to each person. Ask the same question on the Didgeridoo Learning Community on Facebook and you might get some other good answers!
Thank you for the tips. I have found that my biggest hurdle for circular breathing is not enough back pressure from my didge. I made it myself from abs pipe that I found. any advice on how to increase the back pressure... or do I need to make one that has a smaller diameter?
I also use pvc for now. A 1.5 inch diameter is ideal for me. Also the length is important i think. About 45 to 51 inches. And if you have no beeswax for the mouth piece try tape and some heat. I hope this helps. I am nowhere near even amateur so any or all of this could be wrong.
I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm in Dayton, Ohio in the U.S. My biggest problem is I've become obsessed with this didgeridoo. Been trying to learn for a couple of months and can't put it down!

Someone's got to tell me what brand of didgeridoo and what the cost is for this box that he's blowing
It's a box didge by Rick Ellis and would usually cost around $200, but he no longer makes them!
Hi ) thx for video , what didge box is it ?
Made by Rick Ellis on Vancouver Island in Canada. He stopped making them, though....
@@Breathwood thanks for answer )
Is burning nostrils and drooling mouth normal when starting this practice?
Yes! At first, everyone tends to inhale too sharply/strongly, and that dries out the nose for sure. As time goes on, breathing becomes more relaxed, and the dryness goes away. You can breathe OUT as well as in. :)
As for the "WAP" sound, it's a matter of squeezing more gently.
Hey what instrument are you using? Looks like a box with chambers
Cool didge ya
What is that box called. I'm thinking about learning this.
It's referred to by the maker, Rick Ellis, as a box didge, but he isn't currently making them, unfortunately.
I believe they sell them at didgeridoobreath.com
Hi, do you know if compact didgeridoos can be cleaned?
Yes, just pour warm water through them and keep turning them so it pours out again.

I can't seem to close the gap and keep the sound going ; (
That was three weeks ago. How is it going now?
What didgeridoo are you using?
Why I can’t do this? 😭 I will keep trying though. Great video.
That's what it's about! Keep practicing, keep trying! I can help if you'd like more direct support/help.
What didgebox do you use?
This one was made by Rick Ellis, but he's no longer building them. My next suggestion for folks is Noah Frisch.
any tips on how to keep the sound continuous? After ive taken a nose breath and go to restart the mouth playing there is a pause while switching...?
That's the trick - how to switch from nose breath to lung breath again. The key is to start blowing again while still squeezing air from the cheeks/mouth so that there's some overlap!

Not General. In the short time when I play "i" and than, it's trouble for me.
