We don't need photo ID for postal voting, so why suddenly after 100s of years of voting it is now required for voting direct on the day at the designated polling station? Besides, the Polling Card is surely an adequate means of identification! In any case, the whole voting system in the UK is just a sham of democracy, until we are given proportional representation.

@@TheLukeLambert the NHS is not underfunded. It is incredibly badly run, that's why it's so inefficient, not to mention due to unregulated immigration it makes it even worse. If you privatise it (not fully private like in the US) in a hybrid system like other countries do, it will be run way better than it is nowadays.

If its required for a multitude of things then yes, ID should be required when voting for someone in an official public capacity!
Sadly, my valid passport was deemed insufficient evidence of identity, despite providing a copy of it when applying from overseas before the 19th June cut off date, and despite bringing my original passport to the polling station with me today.
The reason given, for not being on the electoral roll, as explained to me, by telephone, this morning, by the returning officer, is that, subsequent to my application and his provision of a reference number by email, is that "I had not responded to the councils subsequent IT generated email to me requesting my last UK address".
I recall no suggestion, during the telephone conversation with the returning officer, today, at 10.52 am 4th July, whilst I was at the polling station, of using an 'emergency proxy vote' which Alex Thomas mentions at 10.39/12.31.
Could I have voted? Have I misunderstood what Alex said? 🙏🙏🙏

“Impartial” the funniest thing they’ve said so far
If you want to buy alcohol in a supermarket and the staff don't think you look 25, even though the age for buying it is 18, you need ID with a photo, hologram etc. So proving you have the right to influence the future of the country doesn't seem to much to ask.
The problem is that the Tories chose this method of photo ID because it discriminates against the young, who don't vote for them. It's simple voter suppression, there has never been a problem with voter fraud in the UK.
But voter fraud wasnt a problem, it was quite clear it was designed to reduce young people because young peoples travel cards are not allowed but older persons ones are. Its a way of stopping people voting.

@92fc You are not employed as a full time carer for 6 grand. You are staying at home not working to care for someone and the government gives you 6 grand a year in welfare. No one is saying vote tories. The problem is that Labour and the tories are the exact same thing. Budget for the NHS goes up every year it's now 182 billion, labour throwing more money at it won't solve the problem which is demand increasing by 700,000 people a year.

I actually had to do a form of last minute reduced hour voting once I remember. Basically there was confusion about what sort of vote I was down for. I initially put myself for a postal vote because I didn't think I'd be back home in time to vote. But then I tried to switch it back to normal voting and I believe i had the email saying it was switched but when I went to vote they told me I was down for a postal vote and I showed them the thing and explained.
They had to go and make a call to the head office to see how it'd be resolved.
In the end I had to go to the head office before 5pm on that day and vote there in person to get my vote cast.

How do you text your identification question to the studio on your mobile phone without having identification?

I voted this morning and presented my HM Armed Forces veteran ID card which has my photo on it and it was rejected, these cards are issued by the Ministery of Defence, so in my book that's pretty official, I ended up using my driver licence
That’s good to know, thanks. I know MOD Form 90 is accepted, and was wondering about the Veterans ID Card. I will try my MOD Form 100 at my polling station and see if they accept it, with my driving licence as backup.

@@Satire-Sapper Just got back, and pleased to report that my polling station accepted my HM Armed Forces Veteran ID Card. I guess, because they are fairly new, most people are not familiar with them. They should be listed as an official document for voter ID though.

Why can people postal voting have one member of the family voting for every member in that household, this is voting interference, these votes should not count you should have to vote in person with voter ID. If they cannot then one vote per household.
