So, in order to someone to really standout in f2, they HAVE to win it or show a great performance right on the first year and in most cases that's not enough too.
It’s exciting how many rookies will be on the grid next year, intrigue up and down the grid… except at Aston Martin. Stroll is not only blocking getting a better driver in place but also at getting their own exciting rookie in. Just think how dire their outlook would be if they hadn’t got Newey
I think Zhou made a name for himself way back in that strange, strange time of Virtual F1 in 2020. He was always up there with Russell and Albon. I think that gave him the clout to get the seat in the first place.
Its a tough call to not be on standby for a McLaren when it does seem likely that someone’s going to leave in the next couple of years, but better to just secure the dream and become an F1 driver at all. It’s great for McLaren too, Borteleto would still jump at the chance to drive a McLaren if needed but they also now have a good excuse to overlook him for someone else if needed
It amazes me people still go on about Pourchaire. He only just managed to win the title in his third year in F2, and won one race all season. Bortoleto is leading F2 in his rookie season, and won F3 as a rookie last year too. He's clearly the better prospect.
I am so happy that Gabriel Bortoleto has been given this opportunity, even if it is with the worst team on the grid. Kudos for McLaren for keeping their word and not preventing it from happening. This lad is a real talent. Won F3 in his first year in 2023 and could win F2 in his first year. He deserves this chance for me.
If I remember correctly - Sainz haven't went to RedBull as they offered just one year contract + he was waiting for other offers in that case. Maybe it changed or he is willing to agree
As a Finn, i'm really happy Bottas is not staying at Sauber. That team has been so trash for many years, imagine doing 20 second pit stops for multiple races before figuring it out. Meanwhile having a car that's 2 seconds slower over a lap to the other cars.
Zhou was an obvious drop and Bottas was asking for a multi-year deal despite his age and lack of performance. Bottas hasn't been bad but he hasn't managed to do anything impressive with the coffin of a car either. They've clearly seen the wind blowing in the direction of new blood on the grid and bitten the bullet.
@Kai_776 but the team is needing a rebuild, someone that has experience with setups and actually improving the car. Signing a rookie is a big risk for a new team, they've either recieved a serious paycheck from Brazilian sponsors or they see him as a long term investment
Valteri lack of performance? I'm not even certain HAM VER or NOR/PIA could make that wheelie bin do any better than Valteri. If you're a backmarker team, performance is irrelevant. You can't produce a good enough car to at least fight, you can't have expectation of points occasionally. Hopefully Audi fixes the problem, as Sauber hasn't done anything worthy in quite a long time.
@AKStovall performance isn't irrelevant, it's relative. And relative to the car Bottas hasn't impressed. He hasn't squeeked a single point, he hasn't been challenging the top 15 most of the time. Put Lewis or Max in that car and they would score points, not all the time, but regularly enough. If you think otherwise, you are an idiot.
also i believe if pourchaire performed as he did in his rookie season in 2024 he would have had a shot at it as well he was 17 and was winning races and always at the front pretty much like kimi antonelli his junior formula success simply came at the worst time possible
It is definitely the right decision to drop BOTH Zhou AND Bottas! The guy is in his mid-30s and there is a lot of young blood way more promising than the old guy.
There's some rumblings that suggested that Bottas and Sauber had initially come to some sort of agreement but decided to let him go anyway. Not sure how true that is but Im kinda inclined to think that there's some weird internal politics happening and with Sauber cruising at the back seemingly just hoping to get by until 2026 its not too far fetched to think that it's probably money related
What about separating sponsors from Drivers and Teams? Like Drivers can have sponsors for themselves, and teams have sponsors for themselves. Would eliminate a lot of pay driver scenarios and make it more based on performance? I feel like there needs to be an F1(2) with all the great drivers
“Estou tentando não morrer”, Trying not to die, said Bearman sobre as condições ruins em Interlagos I"m 70yrs old. Right choice to drop both and give rookie a year before Audi and new rules come in. It's harsh Pourchaire never got the opportunity and Colapinto has an uncertain future. But excited to see what Bortoletto will bring.
for everyone who has a son or daughter around the age of 10 i think they should start heavily invest if they have any driving potential. by the time they improve and move up the ranks would be around the same time charles george lando max oscar would retire or at least dip in performance it would probably at kimis peak though but i think its the perfect timing
Honestly I feel both both Zhou and Bottas. Stake ruined their careers. Even sauber Zhou was pretty competitive and was showing promise. Now I’ll be surprised if he ever has another f1 drive. And it’s not like they moved there in a bad contract, their team fell apart around them.
Mate, Carlos Sainz is expensive. Especially when he's negotiating a Red Bull deal, he'll ask for a huge salary. Dorilton Capital is willing to come with a deal with Sainz. They need him. Colapinto is cheaper and with him Red Bull can crack the South American market.

Very harsh on Bottas but then again, he deserves better than driving a tractor
Unsure how you knew but I was in the middle of laundry and was debating leaving the sheets for another week. I will wash them today.
I think its great to see new people coming into F1.
It’s exciting how many rookies will be on the grid next year, intrigue up and down the grid… except at Aston Martin. Stroll is not only blocking getting a better driver in place but also at getting their own exciting rookie in. Just think how dire their outlook would be if they hadn’t got Newey
Valtyri was on the way out once Sauber signed Hulkenberg as their "old hand" driver
I think Zhou made a name for himself way back in that strange, strange time of Virtual F1 in 2020. He was always up there with Russell and Albon. I think that gave him the clout to get the seat in the first place.
Feel for Drugovich he is as good as or not better than Bortoleto. Seeing another Brazilian 🇧🇷 getting a chance before you would be heart breaking
I´m very happy for Bortoletto not getting in the same situation as Drugovich. Also this makes a good case for Interlagos staying on the calendar.
LET’S GOOOOOOOO!!!! Aqui é Brasil!!!!!!!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
It amazes me people still go on about Pourchaire. He only just managed to win the title in his third year in F2, and won one race all season. Bortoleto is leading F2 in his rookie season, and won F3 as a rookie last year too. He's clearly the better prospect.
Brazil GP 2025 sales for the wide public start next Monday. That must play at least a little part in the timing of the news release
We all wake up with the news of Bortoleto here in Brazil. Still celebrating!
Great video man! Can i ask you to make a video about Pourchaire because i want to know why he isn't in F1 now considering he's been a great talent
As a Finn, i'm really happy Bottas is not staying at Sauber. That team has been so trash for many years, imagine doing 20 second pit stops for multiple races before figuring it out. Meanwhile having a car that's 2 seconds slower over a lap to the other cars.
Why not last week in Brazil? Also, where are the sponsors on the line up post
Matt and tommy wondering f1 seat right calls or not, I'm just here looking at america wondering if weve made any good calls for over a decade haha
America hasn't made a good decision in that avenue, in a lot longer than a decade.
Zhou was an obvious drop and Bottas was asking for a multi-year deal despite his age and lack of performance. Bottas hasn't been bad but he hasn't managed to do anything impressive with the coffin of a car either.
They've clearly seen the wind blowing in the direction of new blood on the grid and bitten the bullet.
you dont realise how talented gabriel is he won f3 in hes rookie season and the current f2 championship
I am glad that Bortoleto was chosen over the others: He has a Talent that would otherwise have been wasted 😂
Do you have merch?
also i believe if pourchaire performed as he did in his rookie season in 2024 he would have had a shot at it as well
he was 17 and was winning races and always at the front
pretty much like kimi antonelli
his junior formula success simply came at the worst time possible
It is definitely the right decision to drop BOTH Zhou AND Bottas! The guy is in his mid-30s and there is a lot of young blood way more promising than the old guy.
How much longer is Stroll going to hold that seat up for an actual talented driver?
There's some rumblings that suggested that Bottas and Sauber had initially come to some sort of agreement but decided to let him go anyway. Not sure how true that is but Im kinda inclined to think that there's some weird internal politics happening and with Sauber cruising at the back seemingly just hoping to get by until 2026 its not too far fetched to think that it's probably money related
We love Gabi 🇧🇷💚 It will be so special to see him in F1
7 years since we had a Brazilian on the grid
perhaps we'll get a Finnish driver in 7 years as well😳
Häkkinen, kovalainen, Kimi, bottas. All likeable and fast Guys. What a shame
4:28 What is this other news in the world they speak of? Certainly nothing can be more important than Bottas being dropped.
As an American, thank you for releasing this so I can distract myself today
What about separating sponsors from Drivers and Teams? Like Drivers can have sponsors for themselves, and teams have sponsors for themselves. Would eliminate a lot of pay driver scenarios and make it more based on performance? I feel like there needs to be an F1(2) with all the great drivers
“Estou tentando não morrer”, Trying not to die, said Bearman sobre as condições ruins em Interlagos
I"m 70yrs old. Raced 20yrs at Interlagos (Tourism, prototype, stock car), won a cupple of races, just an average driver:
Interlagos with rain split the men from the kids!
Bearkid, Colapipi, & cia soon"ll be asking FIA to have air bags in the cockpit!
Right choice to drop both and give rookie a year before Audi and new rules come in. It's harsh Pourchaire never got the opportunity and Colapinto has an uncertain future. But excited to see what Bortoletto will bring.
I wonder how many more driver moves there are going to be before the season is over
1:45 Carlos is me when I discovered that also VB has been dropped
Vamos, Bortoleto!
We shall miss the Bott-Ass 😢
Now let’s bin STROLL
Sad for Bottas, happy for my Brazil.
Verstappen, Russell, Gasly and Ocon did not have many sponsors, yet they still got to F1. Pourchaire deserves a drive
Sounds good to me - a decent number of new drivers in F1 next year. Not always the same for years and years and years.
for everyone who has a son or daughter around the age of 10 i think they should start heavily invest if they have any driving potential. by the time they improve and move up the ranks would be around the same time charles george lando max oscar would retire or at least dip in performance it would probably at kimis peak though but i think its the perfect timing
The best news today coming from the Amerikas
As a Finn i hate to admit Bottas is slow, but he is so chill.
Poor Felipe Drugovich, man. 😢 I really hope he gets a chance.....That muppet, Lance Stroll 🤦
Sauber is kind of graveyard for drivers innit? Good luck to HULK and Bortoletto...
Zhou should have parted long ago and Bottas made his last real season in 2022 ... maybe.
I think the slowest seat on the grid should be a vote to c who gets it.😮 Bc that goes well
Mate, Carlos Sainz is expensive. Especially when he's negotiating a Red Bull deal, he'll ask for a huge salary. Dorilton Capital is willing to come with a deal with Sainz. They need him. Colapinto is cheaper and with him Red Bull can crack the South American market.
Botman and Danny Ric to V8 supercars... theyll have a blast.
I also feel like maybe Colapinto has gotten too expensive for Sauber? They’re probably looking for a ‘cheaper’ second driver
Made no sense having Hulk + Bottas. One veteran & one rookie is the ideal combination.
14:23 we need to savour the last three Zhou P20 we'll see hahahahahha
