As she shares with us in this easy conversation, across the 14 years of her work experience, she's dabbled in public policy, marketing, consulting, and founded 3 companies. Also recently, she's just joined a VC fund.
Sukhmani spent her college years doing time pass and learning Spanish.
Wanting to do something in the development sector, Sukhmani was not sure what path her career would take.
In this conversation, she shares her journey from Cambridge University to working with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She tells us how she then worked in consulting for sometime, as an analyst at Deloitte.
Having written the GMAT, Sukhmani then went on to INSEAD to pursue a 1-year MBA and work with Philips. Finally, realising her interest did not lie with a drab job, and wanting to get into the business side of things, Sukhmani decided to start-up on her own.
She elaborates the story of her first start-up BetterButter. She tells us how it was founded, the insight behind her company and how they chose to exit and sell the business/ app to found something new.
Next, she shares how she worked on Zopnik, a social networking, marketing platform. Finally, we learn of her third venture, where she faced negative feedback from investors.
Today working with Orion Venture Partners, Sukhmani's easy attitude to life and work is reflected
in her decisions and achievements. Some highlights of the conversation:
•We tell ourselves these stories that I can’t give up; I can’t quit.
•When you realize that you are not satisfied with your current job, situation, etc., don’t ignore it. Pay attention and move on.
•How to begin a start-up: Solve a real problem with a product or service.
•Recipe for a successful app: Find a problem and solve it with your offering, promote it online to relevant users and communities, and tie up with brands to monetize your app.
•Your most valuable currency is your time.
Why don't you watch the part 2 of the same interview here: • Consulting Vs. Marketi...

Very easy to discard the value of MBA after doing MBA from INSEAD
So True !! 😄
What's is insead sir
Its the best institute for persuing MBA in the world right now.
@@adityapattanaik2128 full form country of location is that Ivy league institute
She is not discarding the value of an MBA,
She is making you aware of the fact that a Brand on your CV has a lot more importance nowadays.
Hope you have learned from the journey of this speaker, who has founded 3 companies, worked with IMF and Carries a degree from INSEAD and Cambridge.
I have seen her growth from her first day of job as we joined on the same day. She used to be "mast maula" but very intelligent. Sukhmani had her shares of struggles but she has been always smiling. One can learn a lot from her.
But she needs to share those struggles. What’s even the point of attending a talk like that of you’d want to keep the life lessons to yourself ? Anyway, good to know that you know her
She also blowed a lot of seniors
I don't know why people in the comment section are losing their shit, I found this vedio quite nice!
Same.
Thanks for the love, Subhojeet!

Didn't learn much from this talk
Seems like sukhmani was just lucky every time, got into IMF by luck, did GMAT cleared, got into INSEAD.
Personality I prefer talks in which person tells how he thought & take his like decisions.
Her attitude is mostly like "bas ho gaya", "easy tha", "socha ye karlu" etc etc. Where is ur decision making in thiss.
Either she is just luck or she doesn't want to reveal or she is too arrogant like everything is too easy for her.
Yes she is a medicore, just bcoz of her parents money she was able to ride through the hardships
4 out of every 5 applicants don't make it to Cambridge and the average INSEAD acceptance rate is 31 percent.
So, We believe there is a lot to learn from her, given that you have the learner's mindset and the curiosity.
@@InsideIIMKonversations I'll not worship her only bcoz she got into INSEAD or Cambridge.
Tell me the strategy, how u make those decisions, your thinking process, did u overcome some hardships.
She is too boastful of herself, "ham to 2 mahina pade bas", "easy tha GMAT too", "socha ki IMF me kalru".
Again I'll say, either she is doesn't want to tell us OR it was just bit of luck (that 0.5% who doesn't know how they reach there but somehow they made it) and keeps on boasting about it
Or maybe she is intelligent isiliye asan thaa

In IIM’s it’s completely opposite ….people compete intensely for even a single decimal point grade pointer,,,,it’s not so pleasant in terms of academic rigour!
Hey, We appreciate that you have shared you opinions.
What was your biggest takeaway from this video?
@@InsideIIMKonversations I think the takeaway for me is TAM triumphs everything else, in-fact it must be the starting point if you intend to build a business that can be monetised and make it sustainable for long time!
And It’s kind of creative to publish an ad on LinkedIn for a co-founder! Something new.
It's a college for low class
Man she was rich enough to afford everything .....invite some one who came from poor background
Hey, We always try to keep diversity in our speakers w.r.t the industry they come from.

Luck is the best strategy - my competitive strategy professor.
Thanks for your inputs, We hope you liked the video
The comments that are being critical of this talk are clearly not appreciating how candid, humble and honest Sukhmani is being about her experience and accomplishments. It is refreshing to hear speakers who show that life and success dont have a copy paste formula.
Her admitting the role of luck in her life is actually showing how honest she is. But luck can only take you so far - and its obvious she has had to work hard every step of the way and had a positive attitude through challenges. I am taking away from this talk that one should always look for opportunities to grow and learn, and most importantly be brave enough to pursue new paths. Thanks for doing this talk Sukhmani!
We need more such comments to keep the balance alive.
Thanks Neha for your authentic opinions.
Companies are hiring non MBAs more ...just communication skills and knowledge of the industry is important as a fresher graduate. That's what I have realised.
Great talk!
Thanks a million

Strong urge in me to dislike this video, this talk is such a waste of time.
Sometimes I really feel why youtube removed dislike count.
Strong urge to tell you that there is a lot to learn from her, given that you have the learner's mindset and not ignorance.
How to build an best cv..!? suggest..!?
when are you guys going to upload part 2 of conversation with Mr. Ashutosh M?

It's not easy as it seems
i know mam won't highlight the hardship or didn't face it that's another thing
but yes we have to work hard to achieve things.
It easy to say that MBA doesn't matter , pls speak with those people who are just suffering because they don't have MBA. It is the similar case to Bollywood star kid. It is not guaranteed that only a star kid succeeds in Bollywood but everyone knows, how their parent's connection matters and how much chance they get as compared to other people. Everyone is not Mark Zuckerberg and Narendra Modi who become successful without degrees and backgrounds.
With No Disrespect to the speaker, of course is an achiever in her life, the idea of belittling MBAs on CV is not appreciated.
Indeed times have changed, but even start ups in middle stage hire STEM degree holders for junior positions.
In my opinion, getting an MBA from an elite school or equivalent gives you a head-start in career, bridges the gap between the candidate and potential employers.
This conversation sounded more like an autobiography, which is impressive but not the one I would buy. Thanks
MIS in USA gives better jobs than badjaat MBA
Hey what is the mean of brand name here? Is she talking about the brands like IIMs, SIBM etc.?? Pls tell me..
Brand name could be anything- it helps to have a well recognised educational institute or job on your resume. For example if you’ve worked at Infosys people classify u in their minds as ex Infosys . The big brand can add some credibility to u
A brand is an intangible concept that helps people identify a company or an individual. Here the speaker is refereeing to brands you have on your CV, this could be a company where you have worked or the college degree that you carry.
@@sukhmanibedi7027 Thank you very much for explaining this way.
And I agree with each and every word discussed in this video.
Thanks again.
@@InsideIIMKonversations Yes I got it.
Is it imp in which university we study .....or only skill matters
In initial years university matters after that your experience and work that only matters..
Important for initial job and matrimonial prospects for arranged marriage
Brand name helps. But if u do not get into a good university and have good skills you’ll still make it in life
Both have their fair share in your career.

Me - going to pursue MBA
UA-cam, Instagram - no don't do it. Its a waste.
Me - well what should i do.
UA-cam, Instagram -............
In studies nothing is waste but whatever you do you must have a good knowledge and skills in that perticular field so that you can have a better growth and also you would be able to think about new opportunities.. that's why most of the people say degree doesn't matter only your knowledge or skills metters...
Hope you understood
Oh please such a snowboarder she is after listening to some really wonderful and enriching conversation on the channel this one was pure waste
After reading some really wonderful and enriching comment, we think this one is coming from a point of ignorance.

@@InsideIIMKonversations if you have to defend the speaker that says it isnt it, regarding cambridge ...... and talking about avg ,with a population of 138 crore i bet more than 60% not heard of it or give 2 cents to it, perhaps you could enhance you mindset and take constructive criticism , heard of freedom of speech , you are in a social media platform let the viewer decide his course or you could perhaps write a disclaimer at the starting of conversation do not aire your views about the speaker even if its not worth your time it damages our rep with the concerned person

Things don't come this easy .. it's just trash talk !
I think people critical of her very much being from such halo institutions insead, Cambridge after that they are telling us that be very much decisive & think twice to take admission in these halo Institute because these Institute have everything don't disagree on this thing but be very sure what's your goal & if you will reach goal without attending these Institute may be there is no need to attend these Institute for such a hefty amount.I like her because they are not selling the dream of halo institutions ther are telling us like I already said if you are skilled enough may be there is no need to attend the halo institution & get a degree after paying so much hefty amount & you will make a mark for yourself definitely if you're skilled enough & also they are not pretending like that I am from these Institute because after getting degree from these Institute not all people many people get egoistic we are from these Institute & they don't understand any person so we should appreciate for that for such a humbleness & very straightforward not sugar coatedness & if we will listen these conversations we can learn many lesson like be ready to grab an opportunity when opportunity present to you, not follow the herd like they know they don't want to do phd after working in imf for two years in usa they want to come back to india & they came back, be humble where ever you are right now & it doesn't matter where are you from & don't take yourself seriously.
