They dont mean outer planets. They dont influence. They were used as a calendar in ancient times, they were no date and calenders back in days but people were wise and innovative to study constellation and predict the date. Actually you astrology deals with inner planetary alignment which is another name known as KARMA. Karma is responsible for most of our life and also it is karma that determine our birth , life , suffering , wealth etc. And actually karma is our own action and creation. God means enlightened state of being, the god you consider are not god but they are spirits known as lokapala , and ghost are being who suffers manyfold. It because of law of causality which is your karma that tou are experiencing, there are no external being to judge you , punish you or reward you. But there are enlightened being who can help purify youre negetive karma and help you awake within you through inspiration, one examples is buddha ,mahavira, etc , these are same enlightened being who doesnt hold any karma, they are completely liberated and their blessing help to purify our karma and gain merits. So with that inspiration we too can become liberated and benefit other being. Also consider there are other unseen , sentinent being they include youre god in temple, ghots, river nagas evil spirit , protector spirit, benovalent spirits . Also if you do bad , harming other you create negetive karma which it ripens you too can become ghost and spirit after which you will suffer according to youre own karma so be mindful of intention, action and speech.
