Revell 1/32 Messerschmitt BF 109 G2/4 REVIEW, a look through the instructions, at the kit parts, the fantastic decals and the marking schemes.
One small error I spotted in the instructions: Revell call out the colour "Q" for the Cockpit ANDF the wheel bays/spar. If "Q" is RLM02, (Grey- green - Grau-Grun) that is incorrect for the cockpit, and if it is RLM 66(Black Grey - Schwartz-Grau) it is wrong for the undercarriage bays and spar. They are 2 very different colours - RLM02 is a Pale greenish grey - (it was a primer colour, sometimes used for an upper camouflage colour) and RLM66 is a very dark grey with just a hint of greenish hue - almost black. RLM66 was the standard cockpit colour on ALL new Luftwaffe fighters after 1940. And many existing fighters (Like the Bf109E and Bf110C/D/E received a new paintjob at that time too. In the case of the Bf 110 it was often repainted partially, from the pilot's elbow level up. The G-4 was almost identical to the G-2 (Slight uplift in engine power and new tail wheel essentially - the G-2 early examples had the "E" & "F" type tailwheel, but the G-4 had larger tires, hence the bulges. Later on, some G-2's were retrofitted with the bulges and tires, so you need good references to model a "standard G-2. One I do know of in the standard configuration was the G-2 flown my Johannes (Macky) Steinhoff in Russia in 1942/43 for Jagdgeschwader 52.
That second scheme is really tempting, if I could pull it off, I'd think I am a modelling god every time I look at it.

The extremely heavy details on the elevator seem to be attempting to replicate the celluloid washers that you normally find on the underside of fabric ailerons and elevators, that are doped on, and have a drain hole punched through. Their problem is, that they should be a couple of mm thick, and only about 2cm in diameter- oh and if it wasn't obvious, ONLY on the underside of the controls. These appear to be on both sides.
One omission is the decals do not provide for the swastikas (i.e. in 2 pieces) so that's a shame.
Revell is very sensitive about that. That’s why they don’t add them.
Hey the Hakenkruez markings for the tail are missing, kit looks like a fun build if they would add the correct decals... expensive an slightly incomplete decal sheet.
Yes but they are in Germany where it is illegal, the decal sheet isn’t expensive in a £22 kit.
So many 109s. What is your recommendation for best first larger scale 109? 48 or 32 scale. Have only done one larger scale plane to date.
Have to say any of the Eduard 109s in 1/48, 1/32 is probably Revell as it’s simple and the problems should be easy to overcome, Hobby2000 1/32 E is most accurate in scale but a bit of a bugger to get together. Wingsy Kits 109 E in 1/48 is the most accurate and a similar build difficulty to the Eduard kit.

G'day. 4:51 - yes it's for different types of wheels - the G-2 had 650x150 whereas the -4 had 660x160, along with, as you mentioned a change in angle to a more vertical, necessitating the "beules" or bulges in the wing. However some late G-2's had the new wheels and early -4's had the old wheels. Not mentioned was the change in tail wheel, from 290x110 to 350x135. The kit still has the same issues as the G-5/6/14 release - dumb prop and spinner, solid airscoops at the front, inaccurate cockpit floor and IP, molded on seatbelts, poor Revi gunsight, I could go on. If you want an accurate G-2 or -4 some research will be required and an investment in some AM resin, but if you just want a cheap "109" and don't care about the inaccuracies then this one is for you. 👍 Looking forward to more reviews. Der Vater meines Cousins war fünf Jahre alt und ging 1941 mit seiner älteren Tante in einem Garten in der Nähe der Stadt Kolomna spazieren. Die BF-109 flog weg und eröffnete das Feuer. Die Frau fiel zu Boden und war mit einem Strohhut bedeckt, während der Junge um die Baustelle rannte, immer wieder mit einem Flugzeug zu ihr flog und das Feuer eröffnete. So lebte er für ein großes, teures Herz und versteckte sich vor unaufhörlichen Warteschlangen. Als das Flugzeug über die Frontlinie flog. Es gab Kugeln in der Linde, und er zeigte sie lange. Und seine Tante hatte einen undichten Hut. Aber das hat sie nicht berührt. So amüsierten sich die deutschen Asse.
Thanks for the review, disappointing there is not much on panel detail, there are 1/72 kits better tooled than this. Does the Hasegawa have more detail, you really need that in this scale I think.
Ah yes but it is reasonably accurate if you consider that most the Gs were seemingly puttied….rivets make a nice model though
Wonder why they don't have the correct decals included , missing the correct tail markings, disappointing kinda....
I replied to your other message, they’re a German company it is illegal for them to add them, simple
quite disappointing is the cockpit IP is not the G2 configuration, sidewalls represent late version as the floor is the G10 one, they should have left the G6 one, if you care about accuracy that pit needs rework or hope someone releases a suitable aftermarket, cheers
