- Of course it's not perfect but it's a fun tune.
It's tuned down 1/2 step from the original. All the guitars were played in the take you see here. There were no guitars audible on the backing track. Please purchase Dio music from iTunes and other retailers. Dio is a legend in Hard Rock and so is Vivian Campbell. I'm using the Axe-Fx II XL and my Gibson Custom Shop Lifeson Sig Axcess LP direct into Logic ProX for this demo.

Sounds good. I just don't understand how you did the Solo so relaxed when Vivian Campbell Shredds with his fingers..
Campbell probably did it a little on purpose because it was a show, just to make it more energetic, but this playing was indeed extremely controlled, i wouldn’t be able to do it this calm.

Wow, I just noticed that there are 53 dislikes, the funny this is that Viv himself says he used this video in an interview, lol.
Every now and then I come back to this video to look at your LP. That guitar looks so gorgeous, I never thought a Floyd Rose could look good on an LP.
I foolishly sold it thinking it was causing me hand issues, it was Parkinson's. Meds working fine now, sure wish I had that guitar back :(
Fuuuck, that is hands down the saddest story I've heard recently. I am so sorry man. For both the guitar and your health. I hope you are doing better, I've seen some of your videos, you're playing very well. I hope to be as good as you are one day.
To put it another way though, your health is much more important than any guitar. If the meds really are working now, then losing that guitar is a small price for your well-being. Take care and keep on rockin'. \m/
@@gabrocki I have to agree, was injured and about taken-out. Last year someone broke into my storage unit/took 3guitars/a bunch of tools and work boots (still in the box)/but I have my health!!!

Hi Mark. In a recent audio interview (link's on the Last In Line website), Viv Campbell related how he got back in touch with his playing and solo technique during the Dio years by watching UA-cam videos. In particular, he was having trouble with this solo and looked up a bunch of covers, most of them not very good (according to Vivian), except for one guy who played a Les Paul. He couldn't remember the name, and could only remember it was a close up of the playing. From what I've been able to find so far, there's only one UA-cam cover guy playing this song on a Les Paul. You! So you may in fact be responsible for his return to form! If you haven't seen the recent videos of him playing live with Last In Line, I very much recommend it. Very inspiring to see him back to dominating (he calls it beating the shit out of his guitar) his original black LP, bought when he was 15. There's a few at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa (california) in particular worth watching.
That is actually surprising that a UA-cam guitarist got a legendary axe-shredder back in the game
I actually fixed one of his guitars when he was rehearsing with Last in Line when I lived in LA. I could hear them practicing, he was on fire.

Thanks Eric, it was a minor fix, guitar output jack wires needed to be resoldered, I was working at Friedman at the time and they were practicing across the street at Mates

They've been out for years. It's called a Les Paul Axcess
Steve Clark used one on the Hysteria tour (not sure about other tours off the top of my head)
Alex Lifeson used a Floyd LP aswell
Maiden's Dave Murray uses one too

I got to work with Ronnie on Lock Up the Wolves in Reno. Hell of a nice guy and got me an audition with one of his buddies, from another well-known 70’s/80’s rock bands. I enjoyed our discussions over beers.

Very nice as usual Mark! I love your playing - you obviously have great chops and insane tone, but you also have that intangible feel that I really dig - throwing in lots of cool fills and chord inversions, emphasizing certain notes with great dynamics and just overall "sizzle" in your playing. Great stuff! Nice job on the lead too - mostly note-for note, and what you did change/add was really appropriate for the track. : )

Hardest part of playing this is getting down to those B/E strings or In this case the A#/C#, and getting that ever so slight palm mute with the pinky and index fingers.

Love the pinch harmonics you make look so simple and easy I struggle with the changes but if I get a nice squeal I tend to rush the power chord but I'm a part time player who loves playing guitar you have some real Talent.
