  • Here's another time lapse of a portrait painting. I always feel like seeing a 5-10 minute version of a painting can help see how the whole process flows. I hope this is useful!
Good for beginner artists and those of you trying to study oil painting.

He does have a tutorial for beginners, it's his drawing courses. He has tutorials on learning light on form and modeling. As well as taking those concepts and applying them to the figure. You need know how to draw first before painting, drawing is hard enough light on form,value,block-in,modeling. Introducing painting builds new problems on top of drawing chroma, hue, value etc. Join his Patreon, learn how to draw from him as well as drawing classes on GCA online.

The way you rendered (idk if that’s the same word you use for blending and detailing in painting since i usually do digital paints 😅) the nose is so good i am in absolute awe. Great work!

most people use references, however, there are some artists, like myself, who have been drawing people for years so we just have the shade and lighting memorized, so we can render skin in any color. just last night in bed, i spent a few hours doing something like this digitally. didn't use a reference for it. it was just pure muscle memory

Scott...i feel cheated....there should be sound effects on your demos....like 'tiddley tiddley widdley' as your brush tiddles the paint on.....

I think I'm going insane: I started oil painting again after a 20 + year hiatus a month ago.. First and second weeks went great.. Now suddenly I can't paint a single, decent, basic thing.. Anybody had this same experience?

yes, it happens a lot to me too after a break. it’s usually an artist block for me or simply you need to watch a couple videos to refresh your mind. what sometimes helps is to record yourself and rewatch your videos to kinda set an example for pace.

You have a nice blending technique. Unfortunately the underpainting looks like drawn off from a photo und not like an original sketch. I guess you did it via a projection. It makes the whole picture looking unpersonal. Would be nice to see a picture with an original hand sketch.

That's why they call it a time lapse....parts are skipped. Watch his real tutorials for in depth information.
