This tank is absolutely amazing. Had it not been for that modern warfare requires high mobility I bet that this would still be the one of the best tanks in use. Just look at the angle of its front armour! You could probably shoot anything at it and it would just bounce off. That along with its low profile and ability to dig itself down makes it a lethal ambusher that you probably wouldn't see until it's too late and would be hard to hit Absolutely perfect for Swedish terrain!.
Yeah , to me it seems like a mistake to not produce it anymore , they should build on this and modernise it, my gut feeling tells me this would crush the enemies in a war , especially in scandinavian conditions
@@a11an72 Not being able to shoot while moving wasn't a big deal when it was first made since no other tanks of that era could score a hit on the move anyway. Now when all other tanks have stabilized guns, not having that possibility puts the 103 at a great disadvantage.
Today yes, but when the tank was new and many years from that the difference wasn't big. The engineers that designed it wasn't stupid, everything was tested and evaluated. And about standing in the same place, it was as fast backwards as forward and one crew member sat backwards and could drive the tank if needed. The last version of the 103 was tested against the Leopard 2 tank, and managed to win a defensive battle, loosing just one tank.
@GrossGluck Indeed, the leopard 2 Is a mutch more flexibale tank and im glad we replaced it whit it, anyhow. In a defensive war in northen Sweden, this tank still have enourmus potential for its price, specialy in winter. There are sufficent cover from radar today, and its not ment to stay in a prolonged fight. Few rounds from its cannon, then retreat and dig in. Basicly its ment to make heavy casualties on armor and survive, perfect for the russians T-80s+ that they still use today.
@GrossGluck More likely be taken out by other tanks. It cannot fire while on the move, which wasn't a particularily big weakness back them, as most tanks had to fire while stationary anyhow, but now, with modern towers and fast aiming and aligning systems it wouldn't last long against others. Still I friggin LOVE the design.
Ok so why swedish don't make tank anymore and use the Leopard 2 ??? EDIT: So a guy said in the comment that it's more expensive to create it based on your own idea than buy from other. But as much as i know was developing your own tank is actually less money needed than buying from another country. Remember the swedish started to developing on their own because the brits mark 1 was too expensive and swedish was not a rich country back in 1900s. The same did and still do by many countries.
Why are you so interested in Swedens military? In the Archer video, you talked about attack helicopter, and in the comments you said you weren't even Swedish :o
Sweden has a few left and i think UK have some also. And yes the tank can fire during move. But the chance of hit the enemy is like 0. The tank is designed for a cold winter day in the deep wood's in the northern Sweden.
In the same way as an ironship. The amount of water it press away press back on the tank. So together with the swimming device the tank press away more weight water then the tanks weight
Interesting film, and please remember that this tank was designed 40 years ago. To compare with modern tanks is hardly relevant. Looking back at WWII the Germans used similar tanks with susses at least in defense.
Even though it's and old peice of eq, a couple of houndreds of these, scattered around would do some good difference when aimed at immigratns, sorry infantry*
A great tank with one serious problem, you can't kill enemies! Mobility is keyword in battle and this tank is a sitting duck. In the 50's it made sense but improvement in technolgy made the design an disadvantage. A Swedish failure..
I don't speak Swedish yet I like Sweden and I love the Strv 103 it is my favorite tank, thank you
Amazing tank!! The film's end is so creative and hilarious!

Pride of Sweden!
cars on the road look prehistoric compared to how modern and high-tech the strv looks.
I was just thinking the exact same 😁

"You can't kill enemies" ,"this tank is a sitting duck" I don't want to live on this planet anymore!

too expensive too develop a whole new tank

***** I moved to Sweden 6 years ago...
LMG Light-Machine-Gun ah :)
LMG Light-Machine-Gun Because the stridsvagn s was technicaly unreliable and too designed for swedish use so anyone else wouldnt buy it.
Jäklar vilken bra markfrigång
if you dont know what we have in sweden dont bother to complain ;)

Inte nu längre
The best optics was the glasses behind the optics, without them, they would miss :)
what propels the tank while swimming? The tracks?
adamcrookedsmile i think the jet engine?
Yes, the tracks propels the tank. F.ex. Higher speed on the left track makes the tank move to the right. Just as on land.

Nice tank
How the hell can it float!
In the same way as an ironship. The amount of water it press away press back on the tank. So together with the swimming device the tank press away more weight water then the tanks weight

looooooooool here's 10 pts to you, sir!
☆☆☆☆☆ from me...!
@adamcrookedsmile
Yes!

Haha! "sveriges försvar är en flotte!" *BAM* en stridsvagn på stranden :D
Jag gillar Laser

ser hemskt farlig ut
@AddeXtreme viggen
En mycket unik stridsvagn vladanlausevic.com/2020/05/19/the-s-tank/
