A Rare Behind The Scenes Look At Knoebels - 2018

- Have you ever wondered what amusement parks look like during the winter season? I know that i was curious, so what better way to find out then to visit my favorite park, Knoebels. Parks that close down for the end of summer season have a lot of work to do to prep the park for the elements. Most people don't realize how much work is involved and what specifically is done. So we take a look at how the park hibernates for the winter. This is one of my longer videos but there was so many interesting things to see, so please watch until the end. Special Thanks to Knoebels staff giving me permission to make this video. Enjoy

Breathing is good.
Hey, my friend married a carnival ride.

She also happens to be a pilot and can run a train! She is amazing and a very funny lady.
PS Nice video! Interesting to see the workings of the rides. So well cared for, that park is impressive.
JPVideos umm well you know if you didn't breathe you'd just die
I know that lol, but no one wants to hear someone breathing into a microphone.
JPVideos yeah
I think the breathing adds to the seriousness of the video... he took his time out in the cold in the park for us to see the "V.I.P" look❗️Thanks @JPvideos
Been going there for over 50 years, this was so interesting to see off season.
i work there as a security guard during the summer in the campground and watch over the park during the season. also at night i feed the cats and kittens every night and they know my truck so they look for me every night i work
Must be a great job.
Awww, I’m glad that you take care of the kitties!!! The world needs more people like you!!!
My family and I were just here on Monday and we love this place. We drive all the way from Maryland to ride the most awesome rides.
Ill be back here on Monday and starting Thursday, ill be in Maryland for 2 weeks.
Cool and I hope you have fun here in Maryland. By the way this is a great video. :)
Great video! Brings back a lot of memories. My pop pop used to operate the whip and the old original Ferris wheel that used to be located near the whip. He’d also fill in occasionally on the old pioneer train ride. I haven’t been able to make it back there in years. It’s definitely my favorite place in the world. And you’re right those old Lussi scooters pack a pretty good wallop when you hit someone.
Thanks for posting this video. If I get to make it back this spring or summer I’d love to buy you an ice cream at the old mill!
One of my favorite p arks to go to, it's something of my childhood, and to see it like this just amazes me.
This was a unique experience to see it all shut down like this.
I enjoyed this video Jay!!! I didn't know that parks like that took the rides apart and stored em elsewhere in their off season!!! I learned something new this morning!!! I love the pictures of the off season compared with the on season!!! Thank you so much for sharing Jay 💙😊
PS. No problem about your breathing!!! It shows you are alive and getting exercise🚶🚶🚶
Even though 4 years old, I found this very informative! Thanks for braving the cold to give us an inside look at "Behind The Scenes" look. Kudos to you, young man!
That looks like a great place for being a kid no matter your age. Thank you for the winter window of the place!✌🙂🤗🇺🇸🥳😽🎠🎡🎢🚂🌡🌬☃️
👍
Thanks for the grand tour and the history!
Fun video. I remember stopping at the park in the winter with my Dad when I was a kid back in 78 or 79. I was 8 or 9 at the time, and I remember being mesmerized by how they took the rides apart and packed them in other ride. Your video takes me back
Glad you enjoyed it.
I love Knoebels. Thanks for sharing this video.
Knobals is my favorite. I love the splosh and log ride. We go every year.
Thanks Knoebels for letting our JP in to film your wintertime park!
😊
I had no idea that they remove carts and buggy's for the season, they take good care of that park. Thanks for this video,so informative 👍
I don't think most people knew, including myself the extent they go to for winter preparation.
This was neat to see I always go here every year so it was neat to see what it looked like during the winter.
I really enjoyed filming this one.
got a flat one winter on the main road in, me and my buddy just walked around till we ran into mechanics and they helped us changebour tire because we didnt have a jack
What an interesting perspective ....so much goes into this seasonal operation! You can only begin to appreciate it in the off season. Wow!
Lots of unknown magic takes place
I like to see the park in the springtime when they're getting it all put back together for the season I think that would be a nice resting video because out with show people how safe to park is it'll be great for everybody to see that
Hi JP, knoebels really look different in the winter time. But the snow is beautiful, even though I'm not looking forward to seeing it.☺️ I'm A autumn kinda Girl!!! 😀l just love the sound of running water Or rushing water. I like the sound of people walking on rocks, the snow crunching under your feet . IS THAT Weird????🤔😀. awesome video, thank you so much for sharing 🤗.
You're not the only one who likes those sounds.
@@JPVideos81 thank God! I thought something was wrong with me!!😂🤣😂🤣😂😂😅😂🤣😀.
Interesting good to see this off season the trapeze is so pretty and the snow how cute are those cars the stream sounds Awsom and those swans thanks for showing 😊
The in season/off season comparison was cool!🎢
Literally a legend for this dude. I’ve been waiting for something like this for years! Thank you for sharing
Haha, thanks
the beginning was epic. this was definitely cool to see. my wife said the soldiers are from the bridge that goes to the kid section. she loves that place as much as you lol. big thumbs up for the rare footage.
Yes, thats where i recognize them from. Tell her Thank You
Wow they really take care of those rides in the off season. What a great place for family fun.
One of the best parks around
I nevver got to ride the rocket here in San Antonio, but I dream of visiting it as the Phoenix, who rose from the ashes! Really enjoyed the video. Thank you
It's a fantastic ride
Great video. It's so cool to see the park in the off season. I love that you showed my favorite coaster. Gotta love the camelbacks(bunny hills)
Enjoyed the visuals comparing Summer and Winter
I can't wait until Spring !
A pretty interesting look @ what my favorite family owned and operated traditional amusement park is like in the off season.Makes me look even more forward to next summer's visit.Thank you all.👍
Just watched this again and love the editing in the opening photos....contrasting the summer and winter season at the park. That had to have been complicated. The work you do on your videos continues to impress me. You really have a talent for your chosen field , that's for sure. Another great job , Jay. ( Ready for the 2019 season ? )
Ill be there opening day camera in hand.
Thanks for doing the video knoebels looks like one of the best parks
Its the best on the east coast.
Amazing to see this in the off time.
Love this Park Went their many many years
This video is awesome.Knobles being my favorite amusement park, seeing this video is just so cool seeing what it looks like all packed up.You just earned yourself a subscriber.keep up with the quality content
Thanks for checking it out Ian
Great view of the park during the off-season! Loved the video.
Thanks, it was an incredible experience to show this.
JPVideos
My family and I go up to Knoebels every year and we absolutely love it! It’s super cool that you get to film all this stuff about the park and show everyone else!
@@kar-kac its my home away from home. Check out my knoebels playlist for my videos. I'm counting down opening day.
Thanks for the memories.
Loved the video..awesome job jay.👍👍👍
I really enjoyed this tour...thank you for stopping to watch the swans...so peaceful. My favorite attraction was the Stony Gables cottage. It is even prettier in the winter snow ...".somewhere in the Alps of Switzerland ". So the park is open thru Halloween ...when do they close for the Winter?
I have to stop watching the videos before bedtime.....spent all night walking around the park. LOL.....I noticed the sign that told of the Flood level of Jan. 1994..(around 49:25 in the video ) That was high ! Do you remember that flood ?
I think the 2011 flood was higher. Unfortunately they have had numerous floods over the last 3 decades. They officially close at Halloween night.
great never seen a perk in winter time
Very interesting and good narration. Thank you, it's kinda like a behind the scenes video love it. 😊💖
Glad you enjoyed it
I really appreciate and enjoy this video.
Ty allie
Loved the Stone Gables bldg. !
🙂
some of those controls at 18:15 is for the speed of each motor boat as well as the controls to move them up next in line
I believe the boats are gas motor powered. The engine rpms control the speed.
The Phoenix is my favorite ride implies second twister 3rd
All those ride seats being cleaned before opening day takes dedication. Some of them were looking quite dirty.
This park is how many had been. It reminds me of how Hershey park had been back in the sixtys
Stepping back in time
I have never been to this.park but rocky glen was my go to back in the days
Oo duckies.........oh that pool is great........beautiful swans........was that you who walked away ?
Nice park
Awwww, I want the kitty!!!
🐱🐈🐈⬛
I love shit like this something so depressing about theme parks in the winter
Never really noticed the differing backs on the flume boats. I can understand why, my dad got a good whiplash on those older ones with the low backs when I was a kid.
Great video! The only problem is now I want to go there and have to wait months. Lol
we saw some of our names on the bridge and made all of us happy
I liked when you were at the Pioneer Train station that you said you wished that you had your own miniature train. If you like trains check out Pennsylvania Live Steamers which is a club located in Collegeville, PA where you could ride miniature trains powered by either steam, gasoline, or electric around a 3,200 layout of 1 1/2” scale(7 1/4” gauge) track through a wooded area that sits by a creek going over bridges and through tunnels. If you’d like to know more about our club feel free to take a look at our website and contact me on Facebook messenger if you have any questions because I’ve been a member of this club for over 10 years and I own 2 trains powered by gasoline and electric so if you ever want to check out the club in person during our operating seasons I could get you in as a guest and if you liked what you’ve experienced then you could fill out an Associate Membership Form that will last 1 year for $30. palivesteamers.org
I go to knoebels every year with family and friends of family we stay for five days at the campground
Me too
Never heard of this place......looks HUGE ! I'd say 95% of these places in Mass have been taken down to build condo's,etc.
I love this
Nice job on the video.
Thank you
I like the building shaped liked bread
It's definitely unique
JPVideos I've never been to knoebels
Well you owe it to yourself to get there. If you have a chance, check out my knoebels playlist.
JPVideos I will and I know I do
Another great video JP👍🏻
LOVE THE VIDEO THANK YOUSO MUCH
I've been going to Knoebels for about 30yrs now and did not know the pool was spring fed and didn't use chlorine.
Next time your there, check the plaque they had on the back side of the diving boards near the creek.
Ik it’s 2019 now 😂 but I forget what year it was but I remember I was riding over the top that ride was only open for a couple of weeks (i think idk😂) but I went on the ride and my seat bar thing wasn’t closing right and then it finally worked but when we were on the ride the worker was calling people the whole time we were in the ride but anyways when we got done they closed the ride. Glad I got to ride it ! 😂👍🏻
That was last year.
Wow they go threw severe winter. It reminds me of revere beach when winter came so sad it no longer exzist.
The soldiers are from the bridge crossing in kiddie land.
Nice, none of the ppl are looking dwn hmmm no cell phones I. Those days huh
The soldiers are from where you would walk over the wood bridge and get to the kiddy rides.
Its unreal to see it so dead there... Nice footage!
Thank you
Wow did you see that water?
i have gotten the brass ring before
Is loved it 👍👍👍👍👍👍
awesome park I read it's free admission and parking. Did they buy any rides from Mountain Park Holyoke, Ma when it closed in 1985.
One of the few parks with free parking and admission. They offer tickets and wristbands and you can bring your own food. I'm not familiar off hand if they purchased from that park but I can find out.
Thank you. If you're interested they have a UA-cam video about MOUNTAIN PARK FLYER roller coaster - Holyoke, MA
I'll have to look it up. Thanks
The over the top they can't find a certain type of spindle there having hard time finding someone engineered in making these especially because of the size they need to fit the cylinder that help forces the over the top to get over... these round object is like a donut with bearings in reason I think the guy said was the company they thought was open was out of business... they are definitely hard time finding anyone that can make the size they needed , but knoebels are tough hunters they will hunt around the world if they have too...
Knowing Knoebels they'll manufacture one themselves if they have to.
Really cool seeing the park empty, and I did not know that the Golden Nugget ride from Wildwood, New Jersey was sold to Knoebels park and renamed! I loved that ride!!
It's really awesome going to some of these places, especially since I don't live in the Pennsylvania tristate area anymore, even though it's sad to see some of those places really abandoned or gone...Happy to see this place doing so well!!!
Knoebels is famous for repurposing / refurbishing old rides. One of the reasons I love the park.
I haven't been there since the 90s , I moved to the Midwest and just miss seeing the places I used to go to while growing up outside Philly!
Miss the Poconos and all the resorts that's why I asked about the Pocono Gardens lodge and was wondering if it was still there, it was one of 3 owned along with Stricklands which I know was torn down, and Mount Airy Lodge which was refurbished but not the same. It was a beautiful place in its day, they all were but I haven't been in that area since after Brookdale closed and I did see your video on that place, it was awesome, like all your videos!!!
Thanks!!!
Lot work on the owner wow
0:16
Meow..😼
I was at the log flume an it was testing lol on June or July
Hey thats in PA ??? Not to far from me. I have to tell my daughter to take her kids in the summer
Go check it out
8m surprised they let you in to do it I thought they wouldn't because if safety concerns
I had rules to follow and certain areas i had to stay away from.
Been going there years. Ride prices just keep going up and up!
Everything cost more money these days but this park is still one of the cheapest and cleanest around.
I suppose so. But I do have to admit, they have the Best Bumper Cars anywhere!
I love the bumper cars
27:54 a iceicle fell to the ground lol
didn't the soldiers stand at the entrance of kiddie land that were in the kiddie whip?
I believe so
Yea don’t ride the salt and pepper shakers I got a bruise lol it hurt and I like heights and that was horrible
Knobles has mini golf, kiddie go carts but why no adult go carts?
They do, it's the antique cars haha
@@JPVideos81
Ha....ha....
Reg adult go carts plus having the Nickel Plate in park instead of at the golf course would be great!
Dorney in the 80s/90s with old owners still had a small pavilion where you can drink.
It was winter when you filmed the rides not working
oh and you forgot about the cosmotron
I wasn't allowed in there.
what happend to the 1001 nacht?
What do you mean?
is it still there
I didnt show it but its still there. You can actually see it in the background at the 10:35 mark.
yea and its at the 9:32 mark too
Sad it's gone now. They replaced it with the Tornado. Found it out recently. I remember being in bed with a fever around the time all this was going on.
Who wants to pay for a DVD. I got to work it this year and I rode a test run with lights on
That must be awesome
ive been to knoebels a few times i like it better than hersheypark
Me too
It makes me sad it look so depressing lol
Why is there a cat but I do love cats
Stray cats live there.
Here in new York, in coney island, if the rides are out like that, the vigilantes will break them and graffiti them and hang out there. Oh if i only could walk and go to coney island i would take pictures
Knoebels has security and is rather secluded.
Son you have to rest your breathing uncomfortable.......i hope your not alone, its dangerous........oh your not alone praise god.
It was cold out and i had to do lots of walking.
That haunted house is the best ever!!
nicely done!! I watch your Rocky Glen videos also!!!
Glad you enjoy them. Are you from the area?
Yes. I am from Avoca formerly from Dupont.
Ah ok, we are only a few minutes apart.
I love this
