If you can find it, you need to get "Revenge of the Living Dead," an alternate sequel to the first ROTLD based on a treatment written by Don Calfa. It takes place immediately after the first movie and sees the surviving characters trying to escape zombie-infested Louisville. It was a limited run, so copies are rare, but it's worth it.

The first is one of my favorite all time movies, and the third is underrated but I could never bring myself to watch 4 & 5. You could just tell they were going to be bad lol
The third one is my favorite! 4 & 5 were actually the ones that started me on the franchise. I enjoyed them at first, but I lost a lot of respect for them when I realized they ignored a lot of the original rules of the franchise. At least we got original Powerman 5000 songs out of them. I love your novels, by the way. I'm CRAZY for them...
The last 2 ROTLD movies were not widely distributed so a lot of fans didn't get to see them. I only have Necropolis because I bought it at Blockbuster when it went under. But I have never seen a copy of Rave To The Grave neither back then or nowadays. Anyway good review and cool video Christian!👍
This movie is my guilty pleasure. I love the first ROTLD but I also really enjoy this one.
This is why I am not always a "completist"! My Return of The Living Dead Collection ends at 3! I only own The Excorcist and The Excorcist 3. Maybe I will pick up one of The Howling Sequels, but right now my collection only includes the original. The Children of the Corn collection is calling me, but I haven't answered just yet!

Great retrospective....you would be happy to know that William Butler has since teamed up with Charles Band (of Full Moon Features) to make several films (as a writer, producer & sometimes a director), such as Demonic Toys 2, Beyond The Resonator (sequel to From Beyond), The Resonator: Miskatonic U, The Gingerdead Man 1-2 & 3, Baby Oopsie (from Demonic Toys) 1, 2 & 3, Curse Of The Re-Animator, Puppet Master: Doktor Death & the upcoming 'Demonic Toys: Jack Attack' (2023) movie.
First time I see a reviewer give this move a lot more praise than usual … I remember both 4&5 trailer coming out on sci fi

Great review, it's good to see some of these obscure zombie movies getting at least some love. Interesting history I never knew too! Somehow I found a steelbook of this movie... I can't complain, but I'd never have thought this would get that treatment. you already know I had to have it 😂

@@PlanetCHH that was my exact reaction to it too lol. For alot of these rarities not released in the UK, to get region 2/B stuff I have to get foreign (often German like this one) releases with the original English audiotrack still on it... It's one of those but the full title on the cover and spine is still in English which is a nice touch!

As someone who loves the original trilogy, I hated "Necropolis" and "Rave to the Grave" with a passion when I first saw them. But yeah, after finding out about what happened behind the scenes with those two movies, it's actually sad to learn what could've been a great sequel was eventually destroyed by the studio. I will admit, looking back now there are things about "Necropolis" that I could really appreciate. I thought the cyborg zombies were cool as, for me, it feels like the extension of turning Triombies into weapons from Part 3, I thought the rock music featured in the soundtrack was great (Alice Cooper, Powerman 5000, etc.) and I did like the setting. However, the retconning of the rules as established in the original movie ruined the movie for me, which makes it even more frustrating for me because there are things I can like about the film. "Rave to the Grave" felt like it went back to the "fun" aspect of the first two films, but again, the retconning ruined it for me. At least they did bring back Tarman which I do like but he wasn't as cool as the version we saw in the original. I don't blame the director, he did what he was told to do and did the best he could. He directed "8-Legged Freaks" which I did like and felt he could make a cool "Return of the Living Dead" if not for the studio. In conclusion, I don't hate them as much as I did before now after learning about what happened. Maybe just watch the two as something that's separated from the original trilogy or that Trioxin 5 is just a different form of 2-4-5 Trioxin that works differently which is why it's easier to kill the zombies in both movies. Still wouldn't go back to watching them as much as the first 3 though.
Love the first 3 movies but wasnt a fan of these ones but i do have them in my collection on Blu-ray both in one case. Didnt this one have an Easter egg after the end of the movie in the credits with the official tarman?
Definitely liked this more than Necropolis. I do consider the movies a trilogy, with these as better than some generic zombie movies, just can't put them in the franchise.
I watched both on syfy back in 05 they were really bad but then I really got into syfy saturday movies...id pop a top and sit back and watch it go..
It's a shame what these Hollywood companies do how do you expect the movie to be any good without money to work with I like that you give respect to the bad films you don't see that from other people they just slam them I wish this was on Tubi to watch I saw Return Of The Living Dead Necropolis I still have to see the second one but it's not on Tubi TV and I don't think there is another streaming service that has it right now my all time favorite is the original followed by part three

To me I find it fun better then Return part 2. Rave just seems like it's own animal. I kind of take each movie as it's own thing. It's trying to be different which I like. It's not anywhere near Return part one or 3 With it's budget and time constraints it's lucky it got made at all.

I’m so confused I watched 4 then 5 but in rave to the grave it almost seems like the main character has no previous recollection of what happened in the last movie even though he was also the main character in it? 😂
I always had a soft spot for this one. Its biggest offense is the headshot thing. But it has its moments and feels like a low budget 2000s sincere attempt at least.

rave to the grave is the better of the 2. my expectations were so low going into it that i was surprised at the production level and the acting and special effects weren't as ridiculously bad as i thought they'd be
