Lomachenko lost that fight by being tentative and yet still was able to beat up teo pretty good, teo was more bruised in that fight than when he was against sandor martin who knocked him down twice. Lomachenko already had Russel's timing and range distance management
down by the middle of round 2, That's insane.
Russell Jr’s defense was holding him off somewhat, but I saw some vicious body shots by Loma even in 1. In rd 3 Russell Jr changed to a more offensive strategy but couldn’t sustain it in the onslaught. What a battle.

Russell put on a great display on how to shadow box. Lomanchenko had him all the way. 14 to 14? What a joke.
Just a complete and utter beatdown in a fight that looked so even on paper before. Russell was a good fighter, ended up being one of the longest reigning featherweight champions of all time I believe (certainly virtually never fighting had something to do with it) but Lomachenko had an answer for everything he did.
I 100% thought Russell would be too much for Lomachenko who had virtually zero pro experience. Gary was being brought along reeeeaally slowly but appeared to have the goods and this was supposed to be a breakout fight for him againt a 2x Olympic gold medalist. I had it 9-3 Lomachenko at the end. He was just SO much better with his feet and his movement. Russell had to plant and stand still to throw, and Loma was constantly punching while on the move and giving him all kinds of angles. Gary just couldn't find him. He was getting thrashed down the stretch. In particular the body work in the 2nd half was vicious.
@@donjohnson3888 Well said. I think a lot of ppl felt like you did going into that fight and to see how it turned out was stunning at times. He was so far and away ahead of a guy who was an excellent fighter himself. And I agree, Loma's boy work was magnificent in that fight.

I think on paper, you look at him being one of the longest reigning featherweight champions ever goes in his favor and he had good wins over Diaz, Gonzalez and Kiko who were all world champions at one point, but that inactivity is going to definitely weigh against GRJ when his name comes up. He fought in an era when inactivity, in general, was way up, but he was the poster child of it.

Loma showed the importance of investing in body shots early & sitting down, turning his shots. He was just as fast as gary but he had more power and his punches were landing more clean and flush especially to the body.
If you watch the version of this fight with the RVR commentators you will see and hear exactly how and why Russell lost. This version here is not very good on technical observation and analysis

I agree with the judge that called it an even match. Russell hunted Lomachenko, then vice versa. Loma got hit more in this fight than in any other. He got hit more than he gave out, but he gave out harder shots than made Russell stall for a bit. A rematch would have been a worthy fight. This was Loma's toughest opponent yet. Great clean fight. Thank you. Props to Russell.

Huge thing I noticed in this fight was every time Russell would actually throw he'd make a noise like a 'tss' or 'ahh' but not when he was fainting. I feel it was a pretty big tell for Loma to know when Russell was actually going to throw and when he wasn't.

But that's boxing look at the Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia fight they gave Davis a 1/2 point for a second round knock-down. Judge Dave Moreritti scored 10-10 and the other two judges 10-9 3rd and 5th went to Davis 10-9 and Garcia 4th and 6th round
1st round even nobody hit anybody but on the official score cards Davis is up a half point. Garcia didn't win one round with a total of maybe eight punches landed the entire fight and up until Garcia quit because now the punches were coming harder and harder instead of weak punches that he had been use to after five rounds and C class boxers he had been fighting. Ryan Garcia got hit in the rib cage and quit in his own words (I got hurt and didn't want to continue). There should have been an investigation into that fight had Ryan Garcia gotten up and finished the fight they were gonna give him the fight.
An entire promotion production hauled @$$ after the fight. There wasn't 100 fans that stayed for the after fight interview the place was empty. Six rounds of boxing and in the 7th round with a minute and 35 seconds Garcia quits. They said it was a knockout, "hell no Garcia quit. He had no skills flat footed no speed swinging at air, but they built the fight up as the face of boxing a knockout artist against a social media star with millions of 14 15 16 year olds who knew absolutely nothing about boxing. Both Ryan Garcia and Dolly Romero should be banned from boxing........ fraud complete fraud.

It was the nature of the loss really. Highly dubious scorecards and a cartoonish amount of MONTROUS low blows that went completely un-called kind of shitted the whole thing up. I blame Loma and his team for even accepting a fight in Texas with Laurence Cole as the ref tbh. They should have known better. Cole's reputation was by far the worst in the bussiness for a reason.

Gary got impressive speed but no timing accuracy or power … when he master all of those key elements for effective punching the dude will be dangerous he may have to slow his punches down just a bit for to improve accuracy and timing … waste a lot of energy because he throws a lot of punches in his combos majority missing … the return on his efforts don’t equate to anything of beneficial gains on his opponent …

Boxing fans have never appreciated Lomachenko, and I’m afraid he’s the kind of fighter that will be reevaluated years to come. Always came to fight, but for some reason has NEVER gotten a fair shot on the cards even as early as this fight. There is no way this was anything but domination by Lomachenko. Gary Russell Jr then didn’t lose a fight until a controversial loss against Magsayo when he tore his shoulder and lost his main trainer. GRJ is an immense talent who dominated Jojo Diaz who would then go on to win another title and give eventual undisputed champion Devin Haney his then toughest fight, harder than unified Kambosos. Forgive us Lomachenko, Americans never truly embraced you.

if you look at this fight from a casual fan or commentator standpoint, then loma won, but if you look at it from punches landed, loma landed 3 punches in rd.1, 6 in rd.2, and backed up all of the 3rd. They talk about his footwork, which aint shit but a bunch of hoping around w/o punching, he did more of that than punching, and loma landed a few good body shots!
