I am loving this episode everyone seems to be having a good time and no one is too rowdy like on other shows. Thanks for a calming display and demonstration of the game mechanics.

Looks interesting! I like the "shared deck" and the drafting, even if the agent placement means that it's heavy on systems. It certainly takes up a lot of table space with the tower, board, and cards.
These keep getting better and better. I miss Tabletop, but this show is good for different reasons-I appreciate that they show the whole game, for example, and they have more complex games than Tabletop usually did. It's not as accessible, but it's fun nonetheless.

Finally got this game delivered via kickstarter. This video helped sell it for me. Playing it first time through was rough, there is so much going on. Watching the playthrough again makes so much more sense. There is a wide variety of strategies available, and that even gets mixed up based on the different locations so it seems impossible to have the same strategy work exactly the same way twice. None of which are overly-powerful, which shows great balance for such a complex game. Train those agents! 8.5/10 - quality game with very interesting mechanics.

Interesting. The sleeving mechanic is brilliant, as are using the backs of the cards to be monsters. As mastery of the game progresses, so does the difficulty, and it's so elegant... *drool*

You should try Mystic Vale. It's already out and uses the same sleeving mechanic in an equally interesting way. Plus, it's a little more reasonably priced than the Kickstarter for this.

The hilarious part is John probably came with this design first and AEG decided to test mechanism of sleeving with simplified version of the game aka Mystic Vale. You can look it up on BGG Mystic is also John D. Clair game.

WOW! Just WOW! Once you understand how locations and contacts interact you will understand HOW this is just brilliant in EVERY WAY. With just the base game the combinations are endless ---- but with the expansion (and I heard there are more coming?) the variety just opens up. I've playing a dozen times and every game INCREASES my love of how subtle and fun this one is. My wife backed this on KS and is now painting the minis. This was an unexpected hit - top 5 all time for our house. It IS heavier than people may let on.

This was my favourite episode so far! Loved how much you guys talked strategy and how harmonic the atmosphere was between you guys (considering this is a competitive game) and John's input as a designer was pretty interesting. I also liked how much quieter and more serious this episode was, really hoping there'll be more videos in this style with just the occasional quirky episode from time to time (which I do enjoy too, but this was far more to my liking)!

This was an instant back for me, because I enjoy deck building - especially when there's another layer on top of it. I hadn't read too much into the rules, but this playthrough gave me an excellent feel for the game. Very excited for this to be delivered, in 2019...

Very helpful, enjoyable video. I made a 2 page guide to help me get going quickly. Helps to store the unsleeved cards in front of their location boards so you grab them both together during setup, and file them back together in numerical order when done.
    Table Setup:
    Put board in middle
2 extension boards top & bottom
Place 3 boxes (Influence, Coins, Reputation) in place on main board.
Place all remaining sleeved cards on discard pile. (Note: on back of cards any threat levels higher than the number of players should be put back in the box.)
10 location boards. (See Player Handbook on extension board spaces & scenarios to choose which boards to set up.) Also note descriptions are in numerical order in handbook. I wrote numbers in large font above each description in handbook so easier to look up.)
Place all unsleeved cards with numbers matching location boards at their feet. (I store these unsleeved cards in front of each location board, boards in numerical order.)
Put uncolored smaller miniature figure on prologue on main board. (In black bag)
Put uncolored larger miniature figure (holding torch) next to player who wants to go first.
Choose Guild by color with player mat and a plastic baggy of matching color. (Baggy contains 10 figures, 4 sleeved guild starter cards, 2 reference cards, 1 sleeve full of blank colored guild cards, and a little plastic jar (from craft store) containing markers and defense tracker.) Arrange mat area as follows:
4 sleeved guild starter cards, city side up, to left of your mat (Your HAND area), & packet of blank guild cards to right of your mat.
2 reference cards to right of your mat
4 trained agents (men) in area at top of your mat, 6 to the right of mat
Place little jar above hand area and put defense tracker (tiny pagoda-like tower in little jar) on 17 at top of track in upper right corner of each player’s mat.
To help remember whose turn it is to start a round, place the first player’s marker (in little jar) on 1, second player on 2, etc, counter-clockwise for each round so there is a color marker on each round.
To help remember steps have been taken during play, place a little marker in hand area when card is drawn, and cover items used on cards, and place coins on cards when owed.
From boxes on board, put coins and influence in spaces on each player mat
    4 influence (blue side up)
    5 coins
Set up Threat Tower near main board
Ensure black threat cubes bag has all black and all colors matching players in game. Put 2 random threat cubes on Threat Zone on mats.
Put 4 random cubes in tower.
Place 3 random cards from discard pile in slots on tower, blight side showing.
Prologue (There is only one Prologue per game.)
Choose 1 card associated with locations to sleeve on your own city side up cards, in player order 12344321 (in 4 man game), 123321 (in 3 man game, 122112 (in 2 man game). Only 1 card from each pile may be chosen, so put a little counter on each pile as you choose.
Immediately resolve actions on chosen cards. (See exceptions in rule book.)
When all cards are chosen, take one of each remaining cards and sleeve them randomly in the discard pile. Take back your counters.
Put 1 card of your own with no added slips in your Guild Hall on your mat. Put the rest of your cards in the discard pile.
Shuffle discard pile & place on Deck spot. Then slide cards from top of deck into all the blank spaces. There are now 6 available cards (including on deck).
Assembly Phase (Each round consists of 1 Assembly Phase & 1 Action Phase.)
Move uncolored miniature marker from Prologue to 1.
Move other uncolored miniature marker with torch Counter-Clockwise to next player.
All players move cards in their Guild Hall to their hand (space to left of their player mat, city side up.)
All players put Threat Zone cubes on their hand.
Then in clockwise order each player:
Draft cards from street to fill hand (3 cards in hand total)
Pull action cubes from bag based on the sum of cube icons in their hand and put them on Threat Zone on their board.
    Action Phase
Each player, in clockwise order, completes ALL steps before passing to next player, (with notable exception of blight attacks, step b.)
Drop cubes (from on top of your hand into the tower)
ALL players resolve ALL blight attacks immediately in clockwise order. (All must do so if black, or each player whose color is blighted.)
Then proceed with player who dropped the cubes. It is helpful to use markers to show you’ve drawn a card, and to track which advancements you have used, as well as to put coins on cards you will owe to owner for use of powers.
You MUST sleeve an advancement from cards below location boards, but you may do that before or after resolving other cards.
Resolve cards, (including options involving discarding benefits).
Discard your cards to the discard pile. (Other colors in your hand go the their Guild Halls, but are not available to them until the next round.)
After all that player’s hand has been discarded, move on to the next clockwise player.
When all players have completed the Action Phase, you are ready for the next round: Move the uncolored miniature marker from 1 to 2 and return the colored marker to its owner, and next player will go first.
    Notes:
When blight attack occurs, (8 cubes for 4 players, your ONLY defense is having agents on locations such as Watch Tower or City Watch where you get -3 or -1 to defend yourself. If successful, you only earn 1 influence per entire threat card. If the blight attack is not successfully defended, move your defense token down 1 space on your player mat. Cubes and the tower blight cards are discarded (or if a color card, it goes to that player’s Guild Hall). Put new cards on tower from the bottom of the deck.
The only way to win the awards listed on blight cards on the tower is to hunt. The battle strength crossed sword symbols are only useful when you hunt, not to defend against blight attacks. You must have a hunt threats power, such as from War Council location, and enough battle strength to equal all threats on a tower card. Then you get all the rewards, remove all cubes, discard threat cards (to a person’s guild hall if it is their color) and put new cards on tower from the bottom of the deck.

A few times you flashed a card to fast to read it. You might want to a sound effect when you flash cards. Maybe not because you do it a lot but the sound effect would help if people aren't actively watching. They hear the sound and turn to the screen. I assuming this is why Will's show had the sound.

You know why it's confusing? Because they are teaching the rules like one would in a really, really boring and dry classroom. In TableTop most of the times, the rules are taught as they come up, and it makes for a better show with much better flow.
Here it's just like 7 minutes of listening to lecture on something that really doesn't matter for us - we aren't the ones playing and thinking about how to use the rules, we are a lot more interested in seeing it coming through as a narrative, a group of people playing games.
      This is flawed in design.
EDIT: "this" not as in the game, but rather as in the delivery method of the show. The delivery is flawed.

    • @wookieesden3133
      @wookieesden3133 6 років тому

KogasaGaSagasa they teach it like you learn when actually playing. I personally like this far more. I can think about what I'd do in the game without learning 30 minutes in that there are new rules. Tabletop was a fun show. This is a fun walk through.

Many channels simply skip a lot of rules to make them seem easier to get into. Its a tough choice, but I prefer when they go over all the rules. Its very likely that if you watch many videos on board games, you've liked a video where they simply skipped a lot of rules.

What? I really like Lords of Waterdeep, but it is utterly lacking in personality. This is oozing with it, from the locations to the monsters and the advancements, each is well themed and beautifully illustrated. Lords of Waterdeep is just a cube collector.

Wookiee's Den not at all. But she is just constantly overperforming and faking.

It’s a bad sign when the creator looks bored playing his own game...

It means he's been play testing it a lot and fine-tuning the mechanics to the point where the game no longer excites him anymore so I think it is a good sign when a Creator is bored with his project because it means he's put a lot of himself into it already at this point. If you watch interviews it actually shows that he has been working on this for four years which is a long time for some game design

Jason Garcia, that’s a nice explanation. Still-if a creator and a designer is selling / demoing their game, showing little to no enthusiasm, that’s bad marketing for those of us who don’t know the 4 year history of this game. As a first time viewer to this game, it didn’t impress me that the game designer showed little care about their product. I am not hating on you, I see your point, I was stating my first reaction how he was playing his own game.

Definitely valid point... I also, not going to lie, judged him a bit for referring to himself in the 3rd person at times. Lol
