Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this non-zero drop Altra shoe, Martin. It's great to hear that they offer a 4mm drop, which can be more comfortable for some of us. Great details about the upper mesh, laces, cushioned tongue and the mid-sole as well as the "propeller" and the grip on the outsole. It's good to know that Altra is expanding its range to cater to different preferences. Overall, a solid choice at a decent price point! Keep enjoying your runs, Martin!
Thanks Mihai, it's proving to be a shoe I pick up regularly when running on the road, the fit is spot on for me, I just need the snow to melt to use it again!
Altra is leveling up with their looks and features. I agree. This will widen their market. Competition is getting tougher out there with new brands coming out.
I always wanted to try an Altra shoe but was worried about the zero drop, these look good though, I assume these are a neutral shoe mate, is there much twist in the sole?
I was the same with not trying Altra due to the Zero drop, these work really well for me. Aye, they're a neutral shoe & not a huge amount of twist in the sole, not stiff but nearer stiff than super flexible 🏃♂@@soupyruns9709
The colour looks right up your street mate. Very nice. I haven't tried an Altra road shoe yet but these look ok. I always buy older models in the sales though, so I'd need to wait a year or so!
You saying I like bright colours Mark? 😂 They're definitely worth trying if you've not gone down the Altra route before, though with your Yorkshire style pockets, you'll need to wait for the sales 😉
Nice, it's good to see Altra finally releases non-zero drop running shoes. They said it would never happen😆. Sounds like they might have something based your experience, I am now curious to test it out. Great review, as always 👍
Thanks Thomas, it's great that more people can now try Altra due to them having a drop offering, I'm looking forward to the trail shoe version when it comes out 😀
Appreciate the review! Interesting that you like them even better than your Hokas. Nice looking shoe. I am currently running in Brooks Ghost 14 GTX and I'm not impressed. 💕
Great review. They look nice and I plan to test them. They look much like Olympus which I wear. I think they are trying to compete with Hoka and Topo. It will be interesting if Hoka releases a zero drop to kick them back. I think Altra is struggling financially
Thanks Richard, they're a much softer feel than the Olympus (torsionally nowhere near as stiff), you're right about them competing with Topo & Hoka, though I'd not heard any rumours of them being in financial trouble? Have you heard something?
Nice shoe analysis, and thaks for that… but, In november hot temperature in scotland? OMG! And what happend in South spain in july? 😂😂😂 Looking forward to my new Altra fwd arriving… 💪🏼💪🏼
Hi Martin, I'm not used as well to 0 drop, I like mostly 8mm drop or 10mm. I tried once Altra, I don't remember the model, but I had a strange feeling in the forefoot. Definitely I will give them another chance, they quality looks pretty good! Nice review with many details and explanations. Thanks for the review!
Thanks, I'm pleased Altra is now thinking of the bigger market, basically folk like us, that don't get on with a zero drop. Hope all's well with you Stelvio? 👋
A very smart looking shoe Martin. Love the colours mate. Could be a good Clifton alternative if I was to get a new pair of road shoes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions mate. 👍
Thanks Wendy, I've just stood in the Altra, then the Rincon 3 (several times) & the Altra definitely has that feeling you get when you stand on sand & your feet bed in ever so slightly, it's a nicer plusher feeling than the Hoka 👍
I always wonder if people that dont like zero drop shoes, and say they feel pain or tightness in their calves feel tightness when they walk around barefoot.

Very true, there are so many brands to choose from now. I'm glad I can actually run in some Altra's for longer, now that they're not all zero-drop 👍

Thanks Sorai, sounds like you need to treat yourself for Christmas & try a new pair of shoes 🏃♀️Hope your running is going well 😀

Scotland temps at the moment are what you'd expect 🥶 Hope you're enjoying your new Altra Fwd Bastian 👍

@@TheDeterminedRunner Thanks, yes overall I can't complain 😊

Thanks Ben, it's always good to have some road shoe options, I've not tried the Cliftons before but am loving the Fwd Exp 😀
Interesting review Martin, thanks. How does the cushioning ‘feel’ compare to the Hoka Rincon 3 (which I’m trying out at the mo’)?
Thanks Wendy, I've just stood in the Altra, then the Rincon 3 (several times) & the Altra definitely has that feeling you get when you stand on sand & your feet bed in ever so slightly, it's a nicer plusher feeling than the Hoka 👍
I always wonder if people that dont like zero drop shoes, and say they feel pain or tightness in their calves feel tightness when they walk around barefoot.
No, no tightness when walking around barefoot, you use your muscles differently when running, that’s when some people can feel tightness 👍
I knew you’d like the colour 😂
I'm now colour-coordinated 😂
