You can't take the clutch off completely as there are times you need to feather the clutch, especially when moving slowly around obstacles. And for this reason, it's why e-clutch is disengaged the minute you pull the clutch in.
Watching John Ross riding a bike on the channel again reminded me of the good old days when riding bikes was a normal thing on the channel! Bring back the WATCHJRGO of old please!!!
This is similar to what Honda has been doing with DCT on the Africa Twin and Goldwing. I had a DCT AT with the “digital” shifter if you wanted to shift manually with your foot, but it was clutchless. Loved it!
I have this as my first big bike and I love it. I wish that I am better at controlling the weight coming from a scooter. Also, I have zero clutch experience and do not feel like I will ever need it in the future.
I've never come off a ride with my Goldwing Tour DCT and thought, "Gee, that ride would have been so much better if I could have been shifting the entire time." The Goldwing DCT is so good. Put it in sport mode and go tear up some mountain passes. (And for you not in the know, you sure can tear up a mountain pass on a Goldwing.) If I feel I need to go really fast while shifting I can hop on my K1600GTL. That is a fast touring bike. (0-60 the Goldwing can stay with it.) I get to shift the entire time, but do have pro shift assist. That is cool. Once moving you never have to use the clutch. Honda nailed the DCT and clutchless thing a long, long time ago. As to Honda doing Honda things. I've got almost 200,000 miles on Goldwings. I had a flat tire once. Back in the day I had a V-65 Sabre for twenty years. Oil, tires, and batteries. That's it.
I’m glad you cared so much about this brilliant engineering to actually make a vid like it deserves 😂 I personally want one but don’t use my MT07 enough as it is
I don't understand why people are drooling over an electronic auto clutch... I rather use the clutch levers is it that difficult? I never felt clutch was a chore to begin with... What i would have preferred is a cruise control.. Which would have been a boon for long journey in the highways
My 2017 CBR1000RR SP has quickshift up and down. This is now old news. I don't have the e-clutch but I wouldn't want it anyway. My race bike is an '08 CBR 1000 which is all analog. I also opted for the non DCT on my 2020 Goldwing. I just can't wrap my head around automatic motorcycles. Nice review though.
Interesting feature. Im not sure if it is for me but i may give it a try. Always room for another motorcycle. Thanks for posting this. Fun to see the Cushman come out.
american right?! a sport 4cyl 95hp bike as a starter bike and commuter is an american thing. I could tell you 50 bikes from different brands better at that.
Based on all the videos I see on social media of motorcyclist getting pulled over for no license plate claiming their brand new bike didn't come with a plate bracket, I find this refreshing seeing a bracket and a plate on it.
Great video, thanks. I hope more bikes have these or DCT technology. How do you do slow speed turns in parking lots, etc where you'd usually feather the clutch?
Cool tech! Seems like an expensive and complicated way to get the same result as a Reclus clutch that came on the dirt scene a decade ago, but I still love seeing new tech
I had an early 80s Honda 450 with a 2 speed semiauto hooked to a tiny torque converter, Honda has had a fascination with doing clutchless motorcycles for some time
I agree with your comment about cruise control. Honda is missing the mark. They wouldn't be able to fit it to this bike since it has a cable throttle (they should have upgraded it to RBW but that's another story for another day) but even their newest CB1000 Hornet doesn't have cruise control. The MT09 SP has cruise control so why doesn't the Hornet? Honda make great solid bikes but they are dropping the ball a bit when it comes to properly finishing their new bikes. Like the CB750 Hornet is apparently amazing to ride but it looks so budget. I cross shopped the CB750 Hornet and CB650R earlier this year and ended up buying the CB650R because it just looks so much nicer. Not just the plastics and "styling" elements but the attention to detail like the beautiful engine casing, the quality swingarm and even just the silhouette of the bike. The CB750 Hornet didn't hit any of those key design features and as a result it's just an ugly bike that rides really well. I love my CB650R so no regrets for me but I am watching Honda release these corner cutting bikes one after the other and I'm just shaking my head. When I am finally ready to upgrade I might have to get a Yamaha because at least they are giving us all the bells and whistles like 6 axis IMU, cruise control, nice graphics on the display, well thought out design etc (I'm referring to the MT09 SP). C'mon, Honda! Stop cutting corners and give us a bike that not only rides well but also looks quality and has all the bells and whistles!
Yeah all of the Japanese makers have different thoughts about electronics Honda being particularly weird. Also Honda absolutely doesn’t cut corners they make a solid reliable product that rarely fails. They just are slow with electronics they believe in riders riding the bike but indeed it’s weird sometimes.
USA Honda prices are so keen. Under $10k. That exact bike in UK 🇬🇧 is $11,400. Definitely agree the technology is very innovative. Especially in are city traffic.
I hoped the new Honda Transalp 750 had this setup. It's the same price as the 650R with less tech and dirt worthy. Haven't found a bike yet that will replace my trusty Xr 650L.
A clutch you can use still yourself…that’s a HUGE distinction between the bmw SMG and Ferrari etc. ppl would be INFINITELY happier with the single clutch/SMG cars if they had the ability to still drive full manual. It’s that missing third pedal that destroys those cars. This approach is infinitely better.
JR, Have you seen the fully automatic one, known clutch leaver or foot shifter, duel clutch transmission. Try and get it on your channel JR. Both bikes are great.
This would be a fantastic bike for me living in a major city especially as a beginner when I really only want it as a commuter bike with the option to go for a bit of a jaunt on a weekend.
Ppl consider the 650R way overpriced. They don’t understand the bike quality is great and the inline 4 will always cost more. The cb750 Hornet is a couple thousand dollars less money than this 650 despite making much more power & more torque way lower down. That’s because the p twins are much cheaper to make and unfortunately Honda lowered the quality standards and materials etc on every single part of that bike. If Honda would make a GSX-R 750 or 800 variant of this it would sell much more and not cost much more to make at all
I'll buy one of these in 5 or 10 years when it's cheap just to try it. I prefer having a clutch. Ive had a couple auto bikes over the years and just didnt find it engaging enough. Maybe I'm just an elitist since every vehicle I own is manual (13 bikes, 1 car, 1 truck, 1 tractor) 😂
They did the exact same same thing as an option on the 09 VFR 1200 and nobody bought it. Automatic Trans on bikes since forever and they never sold. Now our kids are gonna be the ones to buy them. Jesus Christ
Well Well A "REAL" Watch JR GO video- complete with JR riding a Motorcycle and a visit to ACES! I am not a big fan of motorcycles to be honest it has to do with the clutch up shift down shift especially stopping and going in traffic. Looks like that bike has gotten all of that solved. This kind of reminds me of the military the Armed forces removed the clutch/gears in their trucks years ago!
When they can hide it inside the engine casing it will be great but I would not buy a bike with that cancer on the side of the engine, no matter how good it is. I have a 2022 CB650R and honestly, it's great. I don't need a motor to operate the clutch for me.
The no-clutch feature would be great for riders who are in lots of traffic.
@@kerrylewis2581 amazing for sitting at lights 💯💯💯
The first JR video I ever watched was when he was fired from his job and rode off into the sunset on his goldwing…been subscribed since
I didn’t realize it, but I miss motorcycle content on JR’s channel.
I think I first learned about the channel when he did the Iron Butt Challenge on the Goldwing years ago. I haven't missed many videos since.
I liked the bikes he actually owned though and worked on. Not really into watching car reviews.
You can't take the clutch off completely as there are times you need to feather the clutch, especially when moving slowly around obstacles. And for this reason, it's why e-clutch is disengaged the minute you pull the clutch in.

I just love your dad. We're about same age that may be why. He's also super intelligent. So now we know where you get your smarts.
Just picked mine up last Thursday and loving every minute of it!
I have this as my first big bike and I love it. I wish that I am better at controlling the weight coming from a scooter. Also, I have zero clutch experience and do not feel like I will ever need it in the future.
Dude brining me back to way back when I found you. It would be awesome to have a random bike vlog every so often
I've never come off a ride with my Goldwing Tour DCT and thought, "Gee, that ride would have been so much better if I could have been shifting the entire time." The Goldwing DCT is so good. Your dad on that bike made the whole video 📹
My first motorcycle was a 1998 Honda CBR 600F3. It was a great first bike to learn on and was comfortable to ride all day.
I don't understand why people are drooling over an electronic auto clutch... I rather use the clutch levers is it that difficult? I never felt clutch was a chore to begin with... What i would have preferred is a cruise control.. Which would have been a boon for long journey in the highways
The 650R is one of the best 659’s available. The ONLY inline 4 650. I wish they had a 750 or 800 just like this though.
My BMW K1600B has the strain gauge on the shifter as well. WOT clutchless shifts on a 1600CC Inline 6 bagger is way way too much fun.
My 2017 CBR1000RR SP has quickshift up and down. This is now old news. I don't have the e-clutch but I wouldn't want it anyway. My race bike is an '08 CBR 1000 which is all analog. I feel like Rip Van Winkle. I’ve been off bikes for 25 years, times sure have changed. Thank you sir ~ Chuck

Fun to see the Cushman come out.
Sounds like a good beginner/commuter. Especially for someone like me commuting 45 miles through the East SF Bay.
american right?! a sport 4cyl 95hp bike as a starter bike and commuter is an american thing. I could tell you 50 bikes from different brands better at that.
Some European making fun of American bikes, like they weren’t the ones that thought a 650cc engine was big for a motorcycle not long ago 🤣😂🤣
Based on all the videos I see on social media of motorcyclist getting pulled over for no license plate claiming their brand new bike didn't come with a plate bracket, I find this refreshing seeing a bracket and a plate on it.
Uh oh dads back, hey JR.
Motorcycle without a clutch = Scooter
This video mainly showed me how little I know about bikes. I've always been motorcycle curious but never got into them.
My first thought was “if that auto-clutch is so good, why do they even need a lever”
For people who are dumbos
Low speed control.
I'll stick with my boring 6 speed on my twin cam.
I can see that being a godsend in heavy city traffic
tail lights ribbed for her pleasure. - honda
WOW! Innovative technology that can be taken from you while you're unconscious! 😂😂😂
Great review! I’ve been curious how these are. What’s the black jacket you’re wearing at the end?
Any video with WatchPapaGo is one of my favorites! Great videos!
Great video, thanks. I hope more bikes have these or DCT technology. How do you do slow speed turns in parking lots, etc where you'd usually feather the clutch?
You just back off the throttle and it gives you some clutch slip, incredibly cool 💯
A Rekluse clutch does the same thing, been using them on my dirt bikes for years. No big deal.
Cool tech! Seems like an expensive and complicated way to get the same result as a Reclus clutch that came on the dirt scene a decade ago, but I still love seeing new tech
Its been so long I had forgotten that you did ride bikes off and on its time to pull out that Gold Wing maybe?
I had an early 80s Honda 450 with a 2 speed semiauto hooked to a tiny torque converter, Honda has had a fascination with doing clutchless motorcycles for some time

import a mt15 as a shopping bike. pros: you get to drive a lot with full open throttle, but not _always_ at full throttle like with a grom.
USA Honda prices are so keen. Under $10k. That exact bike in UK 🇬🇧 is $11,400.

Those two front vents go directly into the airbox 😊
JR, Have you seen the fully automatic one, known clutch leaver or foot shifter, duel clutch transmission. Try and get it on your channel JR. Both bikes are great.
What motors in it. In-line 4 or inline 2. I have a 2024 Yamaha MT-07 inline2.
They started in the early 2000s on dirt bikes. Similar to the Rekluse clutch. Aftermarket, but no electronics built into it.
Honda ditched the clutch back in the eighties on the ATC/four wheeler line. I have two 1987 Honda TR200's motorcycles that don't have a hand clutch.
It is such a shame we can’t have a down quickshifter with autoblip without needing to have a ride by wire throttle.
This would be a fantastic bike for me living in a major city especially as a beginner when I really only want it as a commuter bike with the option to go for a bit of a jaunt on a weekend.
I had a Cushman Eagle back in the 60's.
Great to see you back on two wheels. Have you still got your Duke?
What about wheelies?
Why can’t we have this tech in cars? This is amazing!
Would this be better than the DCT on the Rebel?
Ok Honda, now where is my Neo Wing that you’ve been teasing about.
This is like old school content with a motorcycle.
It's been like 4 years since my last motovlog 😳
@@WatchJRGo More please bud! Love all the different directions you've gone in. Don't think we're going to see any more car crusher content tho 😂
Kudos for using safety gear while riding. I know it should be common sense but not all see it that way
Good Evening John Ross
Hey Douglas! 🍻
Love the motorcycle content. Please do more.
Yamaha FJR1300AS had an auto-clutch, from like 2001?

old house in the vid?
Honda has done that before .... I had a 2000 Honda Wave 125 4speed no clutch ...
Show us your old tech connection some time please
Is it a take off of the old hondamatic??
Nope, this is a completely normal sequential transmission with a clutch, but also an electronic clutch control 😳
It's a really fast ebike you don't have to peddle!
Dude your dad is cool AF!! Can we trade? 😂
Seems like that would take a while to get used to
I ride a ZX10R - if you ever bring your bike out to Utah, I'll show you some epic canyons. :D
For itself maybe , but we’re fine with the rest having clutch’s

Great video
