No, not the world. Alexander the great didn't make it past India. Nor did he make it to Britain. Even counting the Roman infantry as a phalanx it didn't conquer the world. Furthermore there's plenty of terrain where it wouldn't work.

@@neilbodwell9172 If you're rating tactics overall then yes the phalanx and anything similar is the best in the world at that time. That's a formation though not a description of the individual fighting men in the formation. Of course the spearmen that make up a phalanx individually are nothing compared to an Indian war elephant for example. The phalanx is still the best.

That was the show anything in the show doesn’t count cuz it isn’t cannon, and this is important because in the books the only depleted kingdoms are the storm lands and north ( the river lands are broken and bent but not depleted in terms of manpower). So if Danny crosses with the unsullied, which she only has 8000 of and honestly by now it’s probably less uf the unsullied are held in place by infantry while the armoured knights (about 4000 would do) slamming into the rear like a hammer and anvil, that could definitely break them appart from their formation and and cause major casualties, especially since the knights have 12 feet long lances compared to 8 feet long spears (it is t said how long their spears are but for most historical phalanx like armies like the unsullied their spears were 8 feet long) so the knights have the weight, speed, reach, and shock ability. Definitely winnable

I played a lot of Game of Thrones crusader kings 2 mod, And I never really purchased Unsullied Until I played as the iron islands.
I only bring it up because it's amusing to me that an Iron islands Lord could potentially hire but potentially higher a group of these soldiers there's and then proceed to use them as a sea raiding force.
Mechanically speaking, the game doesn't consider soldiers getting older and dying of old age, which makes sense but also can lead to some weird things like a group of hired slaves making it through generations of lords With absolutely no fluctuation of numbers.
That being said I do find it amusing that out of all of my soldiers, even amongst trips trips where thousands upon thousands of them starved on the sea, Only a couple of them would have been my Unsullied.
Even in video game form they are pretty bad-ass

I think this video makes it kinda clear why the unsullied all follow Danny. Not because they believe in her (like many dany stans want to think) but because their will is so broken to the masters by the time they are trained that they don’t know what else to do with their freedom. They’ve known nothing but fighting since they were 5, murdered their own puppy at 6 and a new born baby to “graduate”. At least at first they would follow their master who is Dany as she bought them. There's a good reason why most men who were castrated during past history did not become soldiers. A male needs his package and the testosterone that that creates to grow strong and fast. The unsullied would never really work out in the real world. I think for the most part George Martin pulls from a lot of European history but he's kind of taking a flyer on this one. Castrati have mostly been either bureaucrats like in China or entertainers like in medieval Europe.. other than China and some of the caliphates I don't believe there's been any wide scale castration throughout history. I could be missing something though. I know that there hasn't been any castrated armies. BTW. Janissaries were never castrated although guards of the harem were..
