An easy to follow and simple tutorial, thank you for sharing. I would add one small suggestion to countersink the frame screw holes so the screw heads don’t protrude from the back.
This is the absolute best and most thorough tutorial I've seen. I was so happy to learn not only to use a miter saw but actually how to use it as well. That's exactly what I needed! Thank you!
@@TheCreativeGlow What I loved is that you used corner molding, genius! Is much cheaper and easier than using 1 by 2 hardwood base, Then adding quarter inch lattice piecesTo the outside of the frame. not to mention all the time you save gluing and cutting and measuring.
Totally the best tutorial I could find for an average person and just an artist like me looking to put a more of a finished look to my pieces. And you don't need a whole lot of tools and supplies. Thanks!
This is the best floating frame tutorial I've been able to find in my browsing today. The majority of them were provided by people who were working in a professional shop equipped with professionally provided tools. You were able to create your floating frame with equipment that an artist would use trying to frame their own art. I appreciate your clear instruction and the reality that you provided because you made it accessible and I am grateful.
Thank god I found this tutorial. Everyone else made it too complicated for someone like me living in an apartment. For the cutting portion I think I can just use a mitre box with a hand saw. The rest I'm following to the T, thanks!!!!
Thanks! Wish I could take credit for thinking that up, but I learned it from a few videos from Steve Ramsey (Wood Working for Mere Mortals) a while back now; he was centering drawer faces I believe. 👍
What a great idea. Thanks for that. I will paint the bottom portion of the frame black upon which the artwork is resting to give a nice even black reveal around the art piece.
This is PERFECT. I will say I dont have a chop saw so I am using a Miter Box and hand saw. It can be done this way to save money but I will say be sure to have plenty of clamps to hold you wood in the miter box as I had ALOT of sanding to try to fix my errors.
Yes, I've used a mitre box to make 45s on another very large project once, and the angles definitely were not great! But it can be done if you know how to tackle it! Thanks for letting everyone know!
Thanks a bunch! This was a helpful and simple tutorial and the fact that you aren't someone with expensive high end tools and a workshop made me feel a lot more confident about doing it. Nothing is worse than finding a DIY video where the equipment used is so professional that it would cost way more to get the material than to buy the frame. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! I do understand what you mean! We have quite a few tools here and even I watch some of those diy videos and think the same thing. I try to make videos that are fairly do-able for the average person, so I’m glad to hear this from you! Thanks again! 🙂
Wow this tutorial was exactly what I am looking for, clear instructions that are beginner-friendly for someone like me who has no woodworking experience.
This was a very helpful video! Very precise, and I appreciate those little tips and tricks I wouldn't have thought of such as the playing cards for spacers as well as gluing those pieces of paper as to more easily remove the blocks later on. Thanks again!
Great little tutorial. Simple, easy, and most tools are handy at home. I’ve browsed through many “floating frame” tutorials and this is the keeper! Thanks for sharing and allowing me to polish off my photo prints in custom floater frames.
Wow! It never crossed my mind to use the corner trim pieces for the smaller frames!!! Genius!!! I still need my table saw for thicker 24 x 36 frames but you just saved me a LOT of time for the smaller ones. And I bought that exact clamp from CT. What an absolute time and annoyance saver, especially when it is on sale! I bought it in December 2021 when it was 50% off ($9!!!) Well worth it for anyone.
I don’t remember if I left a comment before but thank you so much. This is one of the easiest ways for inexpensive floater frames I have seen. I am making my first one now. Super easy!!
You have a lovely presence and your voice is easily understood. Thanks for making this easy frame project video. I have made large floating frames and this was a nice option for small art. Well done!
I love your video! I am scared to do this but I have an 18X24in abstract acrylic on canvas going into a gallery show in one week. I must get it done! 😳 Thank you for all of your teaching!
Don’t be scared, you can do it no problem! Just a note though: if you’re going to make it a larger size like you mentioned, you’ll likely need to add at least one cross bar across the center to create more strength for the longer frame arms. This is something I’d like to make an update video on… unfortunately haven’t had the time so far, some testing is needed. Others have commented that they have done so.
Fab girl! Love the artwork too! Wish I had all your pro equipment, as it truly does give one a much more pleasant experience assembling these babies...!
I have been painting with acrylics this last year and want to frame some of them. I have bought a few frames but now know how I can save money and make the frames myself. Your explanation and video shots made the process very clear to follow. Thanks for doing this!
Thank you for this frame tutorial. I actually have all the tools to make frames like this. I really needed an economical way to make frames for my paintings.
Without a doubt this is by FAR the BEST tutorial on how to build a floater frame - aimed at the average person! Step-by-step, and suitable for someone (like me) who doesn’t have a full workshop or a ton of experience working with wood. Love that it’s Canadian based as well. Definitely picking up one of those clamps from Canadian Tire. I have purchased similar frames from one of our art supply stores and although I appreciate the convenience, I have found that they work best for their specific brand of canvases . Thank you - GREAT WORK!
I am so sorry for responding so late, especially since your comment is so amazing! I did read it when you posted it, but I often make the mistake of deciding to respond later, and later ends up being too long... I'm working on being a better UA-cam in that way! I do appreciate all of you who watch my videos, I really do! Thanks for the support, and I'm so, so glad you seem to really appreciate it! Thanks for your wonderful comment! :)
Good instructional. Thank you. My wife does poured acrylics and has been after me to build her some frames. It'd have taken me several tries to come up with a few of your steps. I'll be doing some for her tomorrow afternoon!
An excellent tutorial guiding us through step-by-step. You deliver it in a simple and clear manner. Many details, but doable due to tools we have at home (except for the saw, but the wood can be cut elsewhere). I wish the measures were in metric system as it will be more difficult to find the right equivalence from imperial measurements. Thank you! Looking forward to watching more of your surely very instructive videos!
Thank you so, so much for this tutorial! I have been struggling for two years with frame making. I love the way a simple frame adds to the art piece but didn't want to spend a ton of time and money making them. I also wanted to give the buyer the choice to remove a frame easily if they wanted to frame it differently. Again, thank you for sharing this. So grateful!
Thank you! I am actually very proud of this one! I immediately saw these frames in my mind when I was shopping for moulding for another purpose… and then I did it, and it worked perfectly! 👏
Thank you so much for this complete tutorial. Very impressed... clear, organized video... provided ALL the information needed to do this. As a new fluid artist, this takes me to a whole different level. Thanks again!
This is the simplest floater frame tutorial, and the one I will be using as my guide. Others are way too much work for my purposes. Thanks and good luck with your channel!
Really excellent video. Thank you. Best one I have seen. Now, I am curious if there is any DIY way to frame a canvas art for cheap with mat. If you have a video about that, please let me know. thank so much!
Wow Great idea Thank you much for sharing it! This is perfect for someone like me because my studio is in my apt and I can’t make much mess lol, there is enough with the painting, the only thing for me is that I will have to try a hand saw but other than that is absolutely great ! And I will be able to customize my frames accordingly. Thanks Thanks and Thanks 😊
Great video thanks, now to work out how to get the mitering done without the saw you have 🙂 I might ask our local hardware guys if they can do all of the cutting and mitering for me with the canvas measurements.

I think I have a supplies list in the description of the video with links… maybe it’s just on the blog post; I can’t quite remember. 😅 But, I get it from Home Depot. They have the nicer hemlock variety if your staining them, or you can also get the finger jointed and pre-primed variety if your plan is to be painting them rather than staining. That will save you a couple dollars per foot; the price of the nicer hemlock has gone up since making this video (before covid).
