Originally done by Bobby Day in 1957, this song is famous for the hummed opening. Frankie started out in the band The Teenagers as their Soprano lead singer and had a hit with, " Why Do Fools Fall in Love" in 1956. In 1960 after the band broke up, Frankie got to Number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100's with this great tune. Fabulous vocals and a great backing make for a fun tune which had been used in many movies etc. Great to see Dick Clark. Sadly Frankie died of a heroin overdose at age 25. So sad. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦😢
Bobby Day's big hit that year was "Rockin' Robin." He might have also recorded "Little Bitty Pretty One," but the hit version from that year was by Thurston Harris; Frankie's version followed shortly afterward.
It’s a brilliant song by a brilliant artist. 1957 so many things were happening in society and in music in the US and looking at some of the faces in the audience they were kind of looking at each other like should we like this while chewing gum earnestly.😂
I love this song...👏🎵🎶🎶..my oldest brother taught me how to Jitterbug to this and Baby Workout by Wilson Pickett when I was just a little girl. I love you Pat Candelmo‼❤💥👏
"Little Bitty Pretty One" was a top ten hit for Thurston Harris in 1957. Frankie Lymon covered it in 1960, but it didn't crack the top forty. Clyde McPhatter covered it in 1962 and took it back to the top forty. The Dave Clark 5 covered it, The Jackson 5 covered it, and Cliff Richard covered it too. Frankie Lymon struggled to keep his career afloat after his early successes as a teenager. "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent" was one of his hits in the fifties. The man introducing Lymon is Dick Clark and the show was American Bandstand which ran from the fifties to the eighties.
This was filmed on Dick Clarks' American Bandstand. All the performers mouthed the words to the prerecorded songs so the "radio" version of the song was broadcast. Part of why the audience looks so uninvolved. Also they were told to not do any yelling or such things until the end. This was live TV back in the day before video tape.
Boomer here. Love this song! Also never missed American Bandstand. Everyday I'd get off the school bus, run inside, drop my books, turn on the tv and start dancing, all in one minute! Anyone else ready to go to a sock hop? Thanks Harri. You're my favorite song reactor on Utube 🥰.
@collette9008 I guess it depended on where you lived and which network affiliate you received it from. We only got the one show on Saturday in Canada. 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
Great song although it seems like those girls were not getting into it. I think the show American Bandstand some how had something to do with there reactions. It seems like the camera focused on them a bit too much. This was a big hit for FL here in the US.
Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers' were a doo-wop group from the 50's. Their first & biggest hit was "Why Do Fools Fall In Love". The group were known for both their harmonies & choreography & also had hits with "Goody Goody", "I Want You To Be My Girl", "I Promise To Remember", "Who Can Explain?", "I'm Not A Juvenile Delinquent", "Out In The Cold Again", "The ABC's Of Love". "Little Bitty Pretty One" is a 1957 song written & originally recorded by Bobby Day. Thurston Harris had the biggest hit the same year. Frankie Lymon recorded it in 1960.
What’s the deal with when the camera shows a girl she starts looking around? Why wouldn’t they just be watching the artist? It’s like they said OK when we put you on camera start looking around.
Great song, terrific singing, but did you know that when he died at least 3 women came forward with paperwork to show that they were married to him, and still were. I bet that turned into a real cat fight.
The man who originally did this, Bobby Day, later did the equally famous, "Rockin' Robin". I however always preferred Thurson Harris' version of this song over Bobby Day's or Frankie Lymon's. As for Frankie, his original version of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", which he wrote at the age of 14, was his great song. Later, Frankie's version of "Goody Goody" became a classic.
I love this song. There were a number of very good covers of it. My personal favorite was Clyde McPhatter's cover of it. I liked it even better than Bobby Day and the Sharps original. I like Lymon's version, but not quite as much as those two. I'm biased because Clyde McPhatter was always one of my top favorite singers. His song "It's a Lover's Question" would be a great on for you to react to. I know you reacted before to his "Money Honey" when he was with the drifters.
Notice the audience is not clapping on beat to the music or to each other. Believe it or not, this was very common with white audiences back then. They didn’t seem to understand what a beat was and never clapped on beat.
So very good
He had so much promise , talented singer who deserved much more 🫡
Very good my Friend

So young,so talented.
Frankie Lyman was the sit 45rpm I ever bought.
Such a sad tragic story :/ but what a great voice/charisma.
Oh boy everytime I hear this song it reminds of the movie christen

Pretty woman to back then lord have mercy on me
Was used in the Movie Christen
❤this song such a great song and this song was in the movie matilda.
I am certain you’ve heard the Jackson Five version. I was surprised the title didn’t ring a bell as I immediately thought of the Jackson Five song. 😎
The Dave Clark Five covered this song.

Wilson Pickett? No, had to be JACKIE Wilson!

you heard it before-- you reacted to theThurston Harris record

Always watched American Bandstand.🎶🎶 Such great bands and Dick Clark. Saturdays at 1:00pm. Best time ever. 👍✌️🇨🇦🎶
@@marybaillie8907 early 60s it was on Monday through Friday. At 4pm.

We all agree that Harri is the best!!🌺✌️
you know it--you reacted to the Thurston Harris version 3 months ago..
A very young Michael Jackson also covers this song.
The Jackson 5 covered it.
I adore this song! Thanx Harri! 👍
I have heard this dozens of times over the years but I am unsure of which version I have heard. Great choice Harri🌺✌️
Since you are down this road how about Little Anthony & the Imperials songs Hurt so Bad & Tears on my Pillow
Jackson 5 also did a remake of this song in 1972.

You can’t help but to move to this groove, just look at them in this video! Great song!

Parabéns pra ele gosta de música boa que pen que os jovens de hoje não goste de música boa pra mim são maravilhosas parabéns mais uma vez 🌸🌼🎩🧥🕺🏿🎸
He performed in front of the wrong crowd. This is when he tried to revive his career after drugs tore him down. The crowd seemed uninterested.

I’m surprised the audience wasn’t told to get rid of their chewing gum prior to the cameras being turned on.
Matilda
I do remember this song 🥰 Not this version 🤔☺😇 Nice one 👍💯❤ Thanks Harri
Frankie Lymon got screwed out of a lot of money by Roulette records
I love this song. There were a number of very good covers of it. My personal favorite was Clyde McPhatter's cover of it. I liked it even better than Bobby Day and the Sharps original. I like Lymon's version, but not quite as much as those two.

Nice to see another Clyde fan here! Yes, Clyde was fantastic. I've got just about every song he made.
Great song. I was struck by the reaction from the white girls watching. Like they knew they had to NOT get to into the black artist. Differant time
Originally done by Thurston Harris. I dig both versions. Definitely a catchy song so is Mr. Bassman by Johnny Cymball.
Notice the audience is not clapping on beat to the music or to each other. Believe it or not, this was very common with white audiences back then. They didn’t seem to understand what a beat was and never clapped on beat.
What’s up with those 4 women there sitting there chewing gum looking like they didn’t want to be there and seemed annoyed ???
Strange acting audience. Even if they were told not to make noise until the end, they could have smiled😅
The HAD to be a segregated show. Hope they learned in their lifetimes.
The audience members they show look totally uninterested. The version I heard was by Thurston Harris.
The women all seem bored or indifferent.
He was addicted to heroin and died from it at 25
Apparently , it was his managers that got him hooked to " keep him under control " .
