    Really needed this today, the journey to the doctorate feels like such a slog at times but especially during this pandemic (probably having more time on my hands and less helpful distractions has meant extra overthinking this year 😬😬). Thank you for carving out the time to make these videos 🤗

      Ohhhh I definitely remember those sloggy feelings - but seriously, everything is 10x harder during the pandemic, feel for you guys sooo much. My absolute pleasure and I am so pleased you're enjoying them :)

    So good to hear about the actual role of clinical psychologist as I’m still undecided but this has offered some much-needed clarity! So grateful to hear someone addressing the funding issues in the various doctorates. So helpful, thank you! ❤️

    Thanks so much, your video was inspiring and motivating. All your videos have helped, deadlines are here, and I’m feeling flustered! The pandemic makes it hard to talk to a real person in the psychology department of the University of where I am applying. Plus, your videos provide the humor I need! 😆

    I’m no where near to applying yet but I’m loving your videos so much! I only just finished my undergrad in June and it’s taken me the past 5 months to decide on clinical 😩 I’m currently working in a HCA role and hoping to get it up to an AP role (also living in an area in the U.K. where there isn’t tons of opportunities doesn’t always help either🤦🏼‍♀️). it honestly feels so unachievable rn but your rejection video spoke volumes to me & it’s something I’m working on! But it’s so fascinating to hear people’s opinions who are on/finished the doctorate in clinical psychology.

      Ahhh your comment resonates so much - I was feeling exactly the same after graduating (and probably for a long while after). Amazing that you've secured a relevant position so quickly after graduating though, that's a huge first step! Keep at it and don't take the knock backs personally - we've aaaaall been there (100 times over haha). Really glad you're enjoying the videos and feel free to hit me up if you have any questions xxx

    Thank you for being humble, and helpful, my Clinical Psychologist colleague keeps telling me how hard it is, and why would anyone want it !? The world needs more of you 🤞i will apply to both Dclin and CounsPsy doctorate this year and see what I get as a 42 year old slow burner foreigner 😅 It’s disheartening to see clinical psychology profession as predominantly white, middle class female occupation. I’d like to see working clinical psychologist in their hijabs etc. People from all sorts of backgrounds, colours, and choices....

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  4 роки тому +2

      What a lovely comment, thank you so much for getting in touch :) Totally agree with you - I think it's a very exciting time in psychology right now, where it seems that more people are taking issues around diversity, difference, inclusion, and individuality more seriously. The progress is still too slow, but I am so pleased to see that the "new faces" of psychology are becoming ever more present. Best of luck in you applications, I don't doubt you'll bring so much in light of your own background and life experience! Keep at it :)

    • @lnnicl
      @lnnicl 2 роки тому

      It's "disheartening" wow!!! That's a bit harsh. Imagine I said it was disheartening to see the occupation had too many muslim women?
      Let's not forget, this is the UK. It is still a country of majority white people, that's not racist, its just fact. You wouldn't go to China and be "disheartened" that there wasn't enough white psychologists.
      The UK is becoming more diverse, slowly. Its not going to happen over night or even in a few years. Although, it is doing what it can to make occupations diverse but that doesn't mean white women or men should be turned down because there is a potential diversity tickbox. Applicants need to be strong, no matter who applies.
      Eugh, do better.

    About the finances being covered while training, does it cover for international students as well? I am looking to continue into graduate psychology but the financial aspect is really making it hard for me to continue. Is it common for international students being accepted in the similar course?

    Thank you so much! This is really informative and helpful! Do you mind sharing more on how clinical psychology is more than just talk therapy? And are there any limitations in this occupation that you realized as you learn more about clinical psychology?

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  3 роки тому +1

      Is there a particular area that you would like to know about? I think the limitations in my mind are more at a systemic level, having pressures within services to see lots of people quickly, funding being geared towards being able to deliver lots of therapy and not necessarily rewarding other psychology-related activities (e.g. supervision, training/teaching, service development)

    • @TheWorryPeople

      Hi Hinza - international students can apply to the dclin but to get a fully funded NHS place you need to have the right to work in the UK without restriction. Otherwise, you can apply for a self-funded place at selected universities.

    This is a late comment but do you get to choose your placements? For example, my dream is to work with either transgender people in a GIC or within an addiction service but I suppose it depends on what's available?

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  4 роки тому

      No worries! You can choose your third year specialist placement, but the amount of choice is dependent on if you've ticked off your competencies in the first two years and the availability of placement/supervisors. If you had a service in your local area willing to take trainee I don't see why you wouldn't be able to :)
