    Follow up, I have verified the smoke was my turbos. I finally took the time to rebuild the turbos. I pinched the hose to my extra pcv valve and held the throttle at 1300 and there is no smoke now. In my case it was the front turbo exhaust seal as I suspected after dropping the down pipes and checking the turbos. The front had more end play than the rear and you could see it was leaking oil into the exhaust. This was hardly noticeable when I rebuilt the turbos because this PCV modification was stopping most of it. I will leave the extra PCV on because you can see the nasty stuff it pulls out of the crankcase when you empty the can.
    I have added a 90° threaded elbow which moves the pcv valve out of the engine and makes it vertical, don't have to empty the can as often. If the smoke comes back your can is probably full :)

      I recently added an elbow at the front of the head so the PCV valve is now vertical. Seems to have reduced how often I have to empty the catch can. It gives the oil a place to drop out of the airstream before being sucked up by the PCV valve.

      What size is the elbow? Do you still need the pcv since the check valve you put is a pcv right? So you have a total of 3 pcv valves in your current configuration

      Was very helpful, I checked my pc valve was not really throwing OIL!! But a cloud of smoke was following me on every stop or reducing speed, I will check the turbos

    Just did this install. It works great. No more clouds of smoke behind me. Problem solved. Thank you! Now I will order a 90° threaded elbow cause it's a lot of oil in can in 3 days. Will do PCV valve vertical as you did.

    I have this exact catch can setup on my 335i and my car still smokes coming to a light. They started smoking again at 500 miles in. Any ideas?

    can you better explain what you did at the rear of the valve cover? Did you leave the flapper valve intact? and just fully open your stock PCV location?

    Could i just replace the old pcv valve with the 2jz or do i have to modify it for fitment and add the catch can?

    Just stumbled on this video. Good content.
    Question, which way check valve ? Flow through towards throttle body or the other way.
    Having same smoke also. No time to rebuild right now. Thanks

    • @scottxp800
      @scottxp800  4 роки тому +3

      It should flow toward throttle body. It's just a safety to keep the cheap catch can from blowing oil out under boost. It didn't leak without the check valve but it was cheap insurance.

      Thanks Scott, just rigged mine up today. Was not able to get a fv407 without ordering it. Cross referenced it to another Toyota part. Works great!! Slight hint of smoke at times but it almost completely stopped!!! Great idea!!

    I have the rb external pcv system with mishimoto catch can do you think doing this as well would be over kill?

    • @scottxp800
      @scottxp800  4 роки тому

      I 'm running this with the stock pcv still in place. The only problem would be if the RB flows more than stock. Excess pcv flow may keep the engine from idling down. It has not been a problem running this in tandem with the stock pcv system. I now have chinese 17T's no cats and no smoke.
