Schoenberg was a genius who began in the tradition of German romanticism that you see here but unfortunately invented the dry, academic 12-tone musical composition system and never again wrote music like this. Most of the music of Schoenberg and his followers is played in academic settings for connoisseurs -- it's just clusters of sound with no melody or harmony so it's pretty hard for mainstream classical audiences (let alone non-classical audiences) to appreciate. Schoenberg is venerated by modernist composers but I wish he had kept writing music like Verklarte Nacht.
Insanely good, perhaps my favorite performance of this piece. Shame that it only has 10k views!
One of the great performances of our age.
A charming interpretation of Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklarte Nacht. Thank you. Shared.
The best recording I have heard!!
Love the moment of silence that end. Great performance!
I know nothing. About Schoenberg. This is beautiful
