Wow, I’m so grateful to you for sharing your knowledge. I’ve been looking for this information for so long but I think maybe it’s the kind of thing that professionals keep to themselves lol. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

Will this method also work for a pachira aquatica (money tree)? I have a small money tree and its trunk is so small compared to its branches and leaves. It falls over constantly if I don't keep it in a heavy pot.

I was more trying to understand why my ficus benjamina cutting got thick then trying to get it this way. I put it in a starter pot and it is only 5 or 6 inch high. no branch yet but the trunk got thicker and thicker. now the trunk is the girth of my pinky fingure and still only mesures like 6 or 7 inch high and still no branch. I have 7 ficus trees and all the other ones are from the same mother tree but no other cuttings acted like that. The other ones has way smaller trunk but grew branches. why's that

All the same ficus species have different growth stages. There are individual differences even if the species is the same, and it also changes depending on the environment in which they grow. However, enjoying the difference is also the real pleasure of growing foliage plants ♪ Please enjoy ♪

Does trimming off the leaves on the lower part of the trunk increase plant’s height?
How can I increase the number of branches on a ficus umbelleta and a dracaena reflexa?
How can I turn a small dracaena reflexa from a short shrub into a tree with branches? Can you do a video for growing a shrub into a tree?

Hi, thanks a lot for asking.
      1. The trunk can be increased if your plant is in an appropriate location by e.g. controlling temperature and water amount. Trimming off the leaves will not have an impact on the growth of the trunk.
      2. By cutting the top the number of branches could be increased.
      3. Same as the point 2, we will cut the top, expecting a tree with branches. However, this takes tremendous time as e.g. 10 years as a worst case depending on the location, thereof you would be very patient. I will prepare a video for this topic later.
      Hope that helps.

Hi, I have took your question incorrectly. Eventually you are right that the trunk gets higher if you trim the lower part of the trunk. Please take into account the place where the plant fits best. Thanks.

I have a Ficus Alii that has grown to 3m, it looks very healthy but the trunks are too thin (finger size) and I have to support it with sticks. Is it ok to cut it in half at the beginning of the year, to increase its trunk size?

Thank you for your question. After cutting the trunk, if the leaves regrow, the trunk is likely to become thicker. When cutting the trunk, be sure to do it during the warm period of the growing season. I'll also introduce a video on air layering to prevent the upper part from withering in the next session.
