    Higher impedance headphones are generally better match to anything that has tubes on it, low sensitivity IEMs can easily pickup tube noises (or any noise for that matter). Thus battery operated devices are usually companions for IEMs, plus people usually use IEMs for mobility. This product has completely different market in mind!

    No background noise at all on mine on any headphone. sounds superb with Psvane Art series tubes or NOS GE JAN. It is the best sounding amp I own out of many. Notably better than TA-20...

    Speaking of the noise, some manufacturers do fit their DAC/AMPs with ground lift for the USB port to eliminate any noise coming through the USB cable and/or from your PC. To fix this issue, try to plug the power lead of the DAC/AMP unit into a different wall socket than your PC.

      Yeah, I tried all that. I think I just got a faulty unit.

    I have the focal clear og and I'm looking for an upgrade over my Schiit Asgard 3 with the ES9028 dac card. Do you think this would be a good option?

    • @PrimeAudioReviews
      @PrimeAudioReviews  Рік тому

      I don't have the Clear or any other Focal headphones so I can't say for sure. It really depends how sensitive your Clear og is and whether you'd hear the background noise.

      @@PrimeAudioReviews Ok well they are pretty sensitive at 55 ohms and pretty easy to drive so I don't think I should take the risk. And were you using the USB input then you got the background noise? Because I really liked this amp until I saw this review.

      I also heard it with usb unplugged and using Bluetooth. I haven’t heard anyone else mention the noise so it’s possible (but unlikely) that I have a faulty unit.

    Does someone have the balanced out that sounds as loud or even less loud than the single ended one? It's the second unit i roll but the balanced connection seems like a scam.

      . It does the common mode rejection or the galvanic isolation of a balanced cable (less noise) but the resulting signal goes back to L&R sharing of the ground. So, it's not internally balanced as evidenced by it's single ended outputs.
      (edit) Why XLR ins anyway? The favorite analog sources are tape, tuner and vinyl. And 98% of those don't have balanced outputs. The ones that do, aren't plugging into that thing anyway.
      I'm not sure about your headphones.

    Can you switch between the tube and direct out? Also, can someone tell me if headphones disable the preamp out (speakers)? I assume the volume knob also controls the preamp out volume? Appreciate the help!

      You can only switch via the Line outs on the back, not the headphone amp. Yes, volume knob controls preamp out. I don't recall if there's an auto/intelligent switch for phones/line out. I'm too lazy to pull the box out to check!

    Regarding the noise, I read somewhere that people were nervous about tubes and bluetooth being in the same unit, that the bluetooth would cause interference and noise. No idea if that is a legit thing to worry about but thought I would mention it.

    • @PrimeAudioReviews
      @PrimeAudioReviews  Рік тому +1

      Maybe that's a thing or maybe they just tried to pump too much power into it with the integrated power supply. I don't know but I can say this is for high-impedance gear only.

    So I had a similar issue with a hissing noise when no audio was playing. I was able to solve this issue by updating the drivers, and related drivers on my AMD chipset. I am hoping this comment can solve this potential issue for users in the future.

    No background noise at all on any headphones for me. You need to remove that Bluetooth antenna and disconnect that altogether. If not that then check your power and usb cable.

      If that's the case then It's just straight broken. I tried BT only with no USB. I tried USB only with no BT. I get crackles and pops every time. And yes - I have used the same USB ports and the same power boards with multiple devices and had none of this noise.

    If you're getting background noise and hiss it's probably one of two things: your USB cable or your power. Just because you have some insanely expensive USB cable doesn't mean that it's properly grounded. Also I often find audiophiles are not so great when it comes down to identifying what USB ports to use on their PC; they don't read the specs and match proper requirements. Often enough hand built USB cables are something I would steer clear from because it's a very common issue. Otherwise I would buy a good APC UPS and make certain your power line is filtered.
    It's not that I care about this amp one way or the other. It's because you're the only one complaining about this issue.

    • @PrimeAudioReviews
      @PrimeAudioReviews  Рік тому

      Yes, you make a good point. However, I also tested my unit without USB plugged in (Bluetooth only) and the noise was still present.

    • @DJaquithFL
      @DJaquithFL Рік тому

      @@PrimeAudioReviews .. If it's not the USB then I would take a look at your line noise from your AC. I live in Florida and beside it supposedly being the lightning capital unfortunately I also have Peace River electric and there are more brownouts than I can count. APC makes two different lines, you want the ones with "pure sine wave." I'm also not saying that there's a 0% chance that you have a defective unit either, You can always do an RMA or whatever and get a new one.
