I met Mark twice. He is a friendly person. He had to cancel Guttermouth's set in Colorado cause he was sick, so he gave us some free shirts. The next time I saw him was in Europe and he brought me up on stage, gave me some beer and let me hang out back stage after the show and eat the food. Then Less than Jake asked me to leave!😂
For what it's worth I'm an audio engineer and just ran sound for Guttermouth at the Punk Rock Bowling festival in Vegas a couple of days ago. I never worked with this band before but Mark was as nice as can be to work with and I noticed a certain energy in the crowd before when they went on that I only see when a legendary band is about to perform. Show was sold out. I think this band and Mark is everything punk rock was intended to be.
I saw guttermouth in Santa Barbara in 95' Saw them before but this time was epic. Mark took me up on stage, handed me a mic, then www proceeded to turn our shirts into Daisy Duke style and we belted a song out. I had a blast. Well then I Stage Dived. There were signs all over saying NO STAGE DIVING! Next thing I know I'm getting dragged out by security by the neck and dragged outside. I thought I was kicked out of the show but then they came out and got me because Mark made a stink about it and got them to bring you back in. He handed me the mic and I said Fuck Security! After they played we met up at the bar and we got completely annihilated. We both blacked out. I told him that I was moving to Philly and I'd see him in 3 weeks. Well we reunited there but definitely chilled on the booze. He said the Santa Barbara night his girl almost broke up with him. He's a good guy and an amazing singer. Guttermouth are legends.

@invade81. Bruh just cuz most “punks” brains are broken, does not mean they don’t have eyes to see that the brawl was CLEARLY an on-stage fight with a girl. Idk where you got a merch table outta that story. but it ain't the one that homeboy here was referencing!
First saw Guttermouth back when The Offspring were doing the European leg of their SMASH tour, with Guttermouth supporting. About 20 of us went to a show and all we could talk about for days afterwards was how amazing Guttermouth were. Still love them to this day.
Mark is an actual punk, he doesn't give two f**ks what anybody thinks, most of the punk scene isn't punk anymore, they've been co opted by hardcore political groups and enforce PC garbage. I hope Mark never apologizes to these phony Hot Topic "Punks" and keeps doing what he is doing.
Guttermouth may very well be the most important band to come out of the mid 90s punk reprise. I love how the angry, neo-hippie P.C. punks just never understood that they intentionally provoke for fun. If "South Park" was a punk band, it would be Guttermouth.

I’ve seen many many many punk bands over some 30 years of going to gigs. The best live performance I’ve ever personally been to was Guttermouth in about 1995. It was a fairly small show, no security, lots of stage diving and moshing and Mark put on the most energetic performance of all time. They did all the hits from “Teri Yakimoto” and “Musical Monkey” . It was epic.
Thanks for making a video about such a niche band. Have you considered interviewing him to find out what the fuck happened when he went to Australia and Mexico and disappeared?
That's funny bc he was once asked this question in an interview and replied: well if I write a book and read that book that'd be the only book I've ever read. Or wrote.
I heard that he has a permanent restraining order, from that venue in San Bernardino, because of the ‘95 show. I remember reading about it in the paper when it happened. They over exaggerated the events, the story I heard was that he encouraged them to burn down the venue. To be fair, I wouldn’t put past him to actually say that, so it wasn’t that hard to believe. I saw Guttermouth at Punk in the Park earlier this month and I have to say that it seems like all of Mark’s bad behavioral decisions are finally catching up with him. He looked noticeably slimmer from the last time I saw him and the first thing he said was “That punk rock lifestyle is all bullshit and is a lie.” He then proceeded to play the hits from 25+ years ago, and was constantly getting yelled at by the younger guitarist he had in the band about how much of an asshole he is. Honestly, it was kind of sad to see Mark in this situation where he is playing the early afternoon sets with no original band members except himself. Especially when bands of a similar genre and era who are still around are doing much better. I guess the Karma police are always watching…
Slimmer sounds better, he looked bloated and puffed up in a few of the clips. I only say this because It looked alot like me when my drinking was really bad, i could be totally wrong though. Hope he's alright. But you're saying they are still together?
They got as big as they probably could in the early 00s, but it's a niche market since skate punk is old now and Guttermouth is/was divisive even in those circles. Also they kinda dropped off for a while when the genre died down and never really recovered. Similar with the Dwarves, great band but they only appeal to so many. This is coming from a long time fan since 95.
@invade81 I've seen the dwarves with tsol in December of 2019 and they were a very fun band still. Sure they're old and gray now but they still rocked. I don't remember the singer's name but he even crowd surffed
I saw Guttermouth at Warped Tour in 2001 at the LA Coliseum, and they played the smaller stage and killed it! Mark climbed up onto the speaker and jumped into the crowd to crowd surf. I took pictures of it and there's a small chance my mom still has it in her house.
The difference between this guy and Seth is that Seth at least managed to make completely different sounding music with each project, this old fuck re-released the same song 1500, and is also not a 55 year old "stuck in the late 90s" fratboy that never grew up.

Ha! This is good background info. I think it was 98, maybe 97, when they were on the Warped Tour and ended up playing a show in my little hometown because they couldn't follow the tour to Canada. Had a promoter who got them to come, and they ended up playing in my high school cafeteria. They pulled plenty of shenanigans in the school, including having a sword fight with the American and state flags that were on the stage. I volunteered to work "security," which was probably a terrible idea in retrospect, but I got to watch the show for free.
I have met Mark a couple of time and when he is off stage he is a very cool guy. This was a cool video, I always wondered what happened to the long haired drummer (he tried to pull some scam I think and got kicked out of the band one time when they were going to Australia)?
Met Mark a few times. Hilarious guy… One time I was in the bathroom of the club and he comes busting in the door and yells “I gotta swab the decks!” AND “I got the Ho Chi Minh trail going on down here!”…

@@650pathologist well, no. Not comparing, but in the same vein. The world has become, you know, this woke crap, and punk rock today has basically been hijacked by overly sensitive, I don't even know what is going on now, but it's not the same. What I mean here is there were very extreme bands in the late 80's early 90's that didn't care about anything. I have never heard of this guy, or any band in 2023 that can get away with this stuff anymore. I have seen the murder junkies. Remember the Mentors? Stuff like that. It just seems dead, ya know?
punk in the park It's a venture with lots of legendary punk bands. once or twice a year, mostly held in southern california. if that's not your neck of the woods, go online.
I always compare Adk Markins to Duane Peters in terms of going against the stream on main, anarchistic vibe of both of them and kewl musix of cuz! So Guttermouth - 18 years later are still one of the few bands i actually enjoy relistening on daily basis!
First time i saw guttermouth was 2001 punk o rama tour with us bombs opening for them when mark finally came on stage he was chugging redbull and champagne on stage going fucking nuts one of the craziest guttermouth shows ive been to
Are we all hearing the same band? These guys are just dollar store Vandals after they began to suck. Everyone seems to get a hard on for him being an edge lord elder but that doesn't change the fact they sound like blink182 hahaha
The vandals were a cunthair away from being a studio- level band who chose a straight up radio-ready sound before throwing in the towel on writing new material, guttermouth play sloppy, always offensive & fast epitaph-fat style mall-punk. But if i didn't understand music, or play musical instruments, i guess i could see your point.
The band didn't break up and reform in 2015. I was working for the band during that time and we toured steadily. I know, because I lived in the van in the Volcom parking lot when we weren't on the road.
At a Warped tour in Australia, or Big Day Out cant remember exactly, The Vandals played and guitar crazy man got nude or might have been the singer.... long time ago. Anyway everyone loved it, no charges. miss those days
Mark is one of the few true punk rockers in a sea of “wholesome” easy to digest fake punks. Why do we expect musicians to be nice and wholesome? Yeah, he punched a girl on stage. She jumped onstage and attacked him, he had every right to knock her ass out.
I had such a great time with the band in Germany. Mark recognized me on my second show and invited me on their bus to the next date. Too bad those times are long gone.
I saw them a few times in the mid 2000s. They got spit on by the entire crowd at two different shows. It was disgusting in the pit because loogies were flying around everywhere. They were really pissed off and complaining the whole time. At one show, the bass player hit a guy and they ended early.
I hung out w gutter mouth like 8 years ago before they played a show ...the first thing Mark said to me when he got off the tour van was can you get me some cocaine? I went and grabbed him a 8 Ball I got a free t-shirt and all the band members signed it for me
Attacking Mark for defending himself is wild... of course it was some "im so punk" Mohawk dork. In 2002, Mark slipped in my puke at the Crystal Ballroom, and in 2015 at the Star Ballroom he poured his drink on me because I was making fun of him for wearing Jordans. WE LOVE MARK
In like 08-ish this sorta familiar looking older so-cal punk dude who was a friend of a friend bought my friend an I lunch -we were broke punks on a roadtrip- and casually dropped he was playing guitar on tour w/ G.M. (Hunter maybe?)i was stoked as a fan but all he really said on the subject was Mark was hard to work w/ and kinda douchey. Thanks for the hot dog bro!!!!
Inciting a riot? If that counts as inciting a riot, then I was at a show where the Aquabats incited a riot. 1998, small bar venue in Pueblo CO. The "stage" was just a 10 inch riser platform and there were three fucking bouncers for what was maybe 100 people. They kept pushing people (mostly girls) because there was pushing from the back. MC Bat Commander addressed the security stating that he understands that they're there to protect the equipment, but when folks push from the back, the kids in the front end up pushing forward. They're superheroes and they can protect the equipment just fine. Then they said if the kids weren't allowed on the stage, they'd play from the audience and then walked off the front of the platform and we all jumped up and down chanting "we don't need no stinking badges". I was holding Chainsaw's guitar. The bouncers left and they resumed the show.
Last time i saw guttermouth it was jacksonville beach Landshark bar on first street and the show was so packed a table was ripped off the wall and mark ended up with a twisted ankle He said we were the wildest show of the entire tour which was cool i hung out on the side of the stage after and sone dude gave him a percocete and some kid said something to mark he just turned his head and spit right in the kids face He is a real punk rocker dude pisses everybody off everywhere he goes I still have a poster from the first guttermouth show i went to in 2001 its even autographed by mark Guttermouth is still rad today i would go to a show tomorrow
I was at that show, selling merchandise for the band. Crazy night. Someone gave me a bag of pills for his ankle, which we later discovered was ecstasy. Traveling with that band for 2 years was a blast.

I have been going to punk shows since 1995, saw sublime, worked the warped tour 3 years in a row for tsol, nitro and kung fu, and have seen thousands of shows all over the states. No band puts on a better live show then Guttermouth. Period. The Vandals and TSOL are a close second, NOFX and Pennywise a solid 3rd. But no one is better than Guttermouth live.
Love this guy. I would come and see them all the time in the city and wear my giant Bruce Lee pin and Chinese Connection t-shirt. He would always say hi and play Bruce Lee vs The Kiss Army. Super cool
Wow, Tome. Somehow 8 years ago I found their album Gorgeous, and thought it was amazingly full throttle all the way through, with 2 melodic songs to close it out. Funny. I checked out other songs here and there, but they didn't hit me. After watching this video, I can't stop listening.
I totally get the whole "distributing shots of Jack Daniels to underage fans" When I saw them in Atlanta at the Masquerade in 2001 (I think), the bass player offered me a swig from his bottle of lemon flavored vodka at the merch table. I was 17 or 18 at the time and had to drive 2+ hours back home after the show, so I declined. Nice guy though, so was Mark.

Had a promoter who got them to come, and they ended up playing in my high school cafeteria. They pulled plenty of shenanigans in the school, including having a sword fight with the American and state flags that were on the stage. I volunteered to work "security," which was probably a terrible idea in retrospect, but I got to watch the show for free.
guttermouth playing in a high school? 🤨🤔..yeah, sounds like bullsh!t, smells like bullsh!t...im calling bullsh!t.
I have met Mark a couple of time and when he is off stage he is a very cool guy.
This was a cool video, I always wondered what happened to the long haired drummer (he tried to pull some scam I think and got kicked out of the band one time when they were going to Australia)?
another good one man!
Cover Australia's RUPTURE. The best band
Ha good call. 🪦 Warsore too.
Met Mark a few times. Hilarious guy… One time I was in the bathroom of the club and he comes busting in the door and yells “I gotta swab the decks!” AND “I got the Ho Chi Minh trail going on down here!”…
2:22 “Front Pit?” Is that what the actually call it? We always called it the Trench or Ditch. I’ve NEVER heard anyone say Front Pit before.
Goddamn! Where can I see him? I want to join this guy's mission. Is he the only real one left? The GG Allin types, the greaser throwbacks? Is he the only one left right now? I love him!! Fuck this stupid woke lame ass world!!! 🖕 Everything's boring now.
Do not compare him to the great g g... One of a Kind... One of the few bands I got every album by...
Check out Tear Dungeon. Might scratch that itch
GG Allin wasn't punk. Just a moronic attention whore.
punk in the park
It's a venture with lots of legendary punk bands. once or twice a year, mostly held in southern california.
if that's not your neck of the woods, go online.
Cussing arrested development !! Wow... this is new !
Mark is one of the few true punk rockers in a sea of “wholesome” easy to digest fake punks. Why do we expect musicians to be nice and wholesome? Yeah, he punched a girl on stage. She jumped onstage and attacked him, he had every right to knock her ass out.
Touring the same songs everyday for 30 years and still don’t know the words.
fuck yeah, love this!!
...and then there's Wattie!!!
Mark sets the bar for Punk Rock, only dude who will have someone spit at him, just to have him catch it in his mouth and still own that stage!
Mark is a legend !
Seth's response:"Mark Adkins thinks he's punk but he's just gay."
I hung out w gutter mouth like 8 years ago before they played a show ...the first thing Mark said to me when he got off the tour van was can you get me some cocaine? I went and grabbed him a 8 Ball I got a free t-shirt and all the band members signed it for me
Long story short the dude likes to have a good time…..
Mark tells it like it is love him or hate him he is a showman 🥳
You know he gets his ass kicked....A LOT
But yeah you're right
He is a showman
Last time i saw guttermouth it was jacksonville beach
Landshark bar on first street and the show was so packed a table was ripped off the wall and mark ended up with a twisted ankle
He said we were the wildest show of the entire tour which was cool i hung out on the side of the stage after and sone dude gave him a percocete and some kid said something to mark he just turned his head and spit right in the kids face
He is a real punk rocker dude pisses everybody off everywhere he goes
I still have a poster from the first guttermouth show i went to in 2001 its even autographed by mark
Guttermouth is still rad today i would go to a show tomorrow
I was at that show, selling merchandise for the band. Crazy night. Someone gave me a bag of pills for his ankle, which we later discovered was ecstasy. Traveling with that band for 2 years was a blast.
@@bunson1134 thats funny cause at the time in Jacksonville i couldnt find beans anywhere and there was sombody at that show with bags of em
were they any good
That was a rowdy show there were alot of people packed in there
That sounds fun as fuck touring with guttermouth
@@fugyamofugI honestly couldn't tell ya. None of us were into X, so we gave them away. All I remember was shitty blow and worse weed. Haha.
@@bunson1134 ha ha that sounds about right most coke in scumville was laxative powder and the weed has always been mids at best unless you know the grower there were alot of fire strands going around
haze sour diesel and white rhino and a very high standard
Then the pigs busted like five grow houses in one day and fucked the market completely
That's what I like about Guttermouth. He just doesn't give a F
I think he was actually born in 66, I heard him say that in an interview
Super cool
Guttermouth was the first real punk rock show I ever went to in 98. Punks supposed to be dangerous. Fuck all
Mark atkins made fun of my band on stage when we opened for them😅😅😅 it was a honor
Never get arrested, especially in MEXICO. 🇲🇽 . NOPE
How do people not know what they're getting into when they go to a guttermouth show?
live at the Doll Hut...checks out
HE'S NOT CRAZY !! HE JUST HAS THE BALLS TO SAY WHAT EVERY MAN IS THINKING 😂😂😂
I annoyed this guy by talking shit to him when he played at a venue I used to work at 😂😂😂
Soooo accomplished, you are.
I'd say that not being in Guttermouth is an accomplishment in itself
no you didn't
Wow, Tome. Somehow 8 years ago I found their album Gorgeous, and thought it was amazingly full throttle all the way through, with 2 melodic songs to close it out. Funny. I checked out other songs here and there, but they didn't hit me. After watching this video, I can't stop listening.
That's Punk Rock!
Best Band Ever!
Good dude! From my neck of the woods. He grew up around a lot of cholos too. Haha
I totally get the whole "distributing shots of Jack Daniels to underage fans"
When I saw them in Atlanta at the Masquerade in 2001 (I think), the bass player offered me a swig from his bottle of lemon flavored vodka at the merch table. I was 17 or 18 at the time and had to drive 2+ hours back home after the show, so I declined. Nice guy though, so was Mark.
Just saw them last week, fkn love him, so fun. If ur gonna go to a hard punk show.. know what your getting into and leave all ya bullshit at the door on the street.
