what makes movie a hit is a very good new story with nice twists if needed ,good acting along with dialog delivery , good pace and a trailer that pulls public to theaters

And in case of maidaan i think it wasnt a new concept so people didnt even gave it a thought even though it was good movie

Chak de and Gold both were hits so people watched hockey movies. Just because people dint watch a particular film dosent mean you start playing victim card. Every country has likes and dislikes in sports, entertainment etc. So do Indians. Nothing wrong with it.

the cost of tickets are to high for middle class and a movie cant become a hit if it does not cater the lower income groups so unless they come up with a more reasonable pricing this movies are going to tank.

As a Cinephile, what I have had analyzed is that there is particular year, or half decade of specific genre of the movie, but you know Veere Di wedding clashed with Pokhran and ofc ofc, so called Audience preferred Veere Di wedding of the imp patriotic movie. Similarly, Dhaakad clashed with BB2 and no one was interested to watch *first female live action indian movie of bollywood* and chose BB2 over that. Similarly, Son of Sardarr, movie without logic and cartoon kind genre, earned similar to Jab tak hai Jaan so, you won't understand the Indian Audience mindset, you will never. They say we must support Vidyut Jamwal but other hand, don't go to theatre to watch his movies.. They easily forgot that after boycotting Brahmastra, they loved Animal ofc. Pathan was in full controversy but still earned 500 Cr+, Gadar 2 ( most cringiest movie ever or collection of Insta reels in one frame also earned 500Cr+ ) and other movies, Raniganj, Ramsetu, RakshaBandhan failed disastrously.
Brother, people don't care about the quality of the movie. The audience will be the first to go where the girl will be the one who will run after them. Do you know the quality depends on the audience. Sell the movie like this where the nonsense action will hurt.😮💨

If movie doesn't entertain then nobody will watch in theatre as simple as that, compared to bollywood south indian movie makers give a rooted indian touch to their cinema which feels relatable even if film is utter fail. Sadly it is not the case with bollywood since they glamorize drama more than the subject attention & nepotism is at peak now... nepo kids getting projects one after other failed project is commendable to producers. I am glad post pandemic audiences are giving run for their money who take audiences for granted and make formula movies. South indian cinema might even compete with hollywood in next 2 decades looking at the phenomenal work they are doing down south touching those subjects which were never in limelight like new "Mirai" movie with best in class execution. Though I am from North India, I fully support south indian film makers as they have more conviction & risk taking ability to tell better stories & don't stick to remakes or formula movies. Next big from south Kanguva, Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Mirai, Gamechanger and many many more... biggest and all time awaiting for #SSMB29.
