  • A washing machine that folds away clean clothes, a voice-responsive mobile fridge and a smart sake cooler that recommends meal pairings for your chosen bottle are among the concepts showcased by Panasonic at consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin.
In a section of its stand called Better Living Tomorrow, the Japanese technology company is demonstrating a number of prototype concepts that might one day become common household devices - but more likely won't.
The imagined products are based around new developments in the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, allowing them to connect to the internet and perform complicated tasks autonomously.
These technologies "support a variety of aspects of our lives, making the time spent with family and friends more delightful", according to Panasonic.
The largest of the inventions on display is the Sustainable Maintainer, a washing machine that launders items individually and ends by delicately folding them onto a shelf.

Its definitely something you can develop, I wish for folding washing machines and dishes return to cardboards after dishwasher. But this one looks early stage products, not every home has large space for it, plus it’s washing one by one cost energy. I look forward for the later version

If you're injured, disabled, or sick, you sure don't want to be running back and forth to add one piece of clothing at a time and, unless you have a large enough laundry room for folding table where you can place the clean clothes, you're going to be going back and forth one piece at a time to put them away.

This only shows that something like this still pretty much exists only in your dream.
You can't just put together robotic arms and sensors in a cabinet and call it a washing machine that folds your clothes. You HAVE to demonstrate its reliability over and over again.

I'm 18 years old, but I do laundry every single day at home, and in the same time I study. We are 4 people and 4 cats. But to be honest I would continue use my normal washing and drying machine as it can hold much more clothes at the same times. Reading the comments seems the machine takes something like 3 to 5 minutes per cloth, so it would be longer than normally if every 3 minute you would have to load it. By the way this is definitely something I would try

Though I'm in college now and only wash my own clothes, I have always found washing clothes therapeutic. Now it just takes less time to wash clothes since it's only my laundry I'm doing, instead of the whole household, which is nice because I need all the spare time I can get. I also optimize that time by doing other cleaning or studying while the laundry is getting done.
I could understand how washing for a big family on top of other chores/work could get tiring every day though.

This could be improved by having a few drawers for each item to create a queue. My husband and I get ready for bed at the same time and we would each have socks, underwear, shirts and pants to throw in the dirty laundry. That's about 8 items of clothing each day. So, maybe have a drawer for socks, undies, shirts and pants, or something like that. Or even have some hangers for dirty clothes. When you take them off, put them on the hanger and form a queue. The machine could do one item at a time as it works through all the pieces. Smaller things like socks and undies go in a drawer. I would rather have each item on a hanger and cleaned while on the hanger and have them line up on the other side via hanger. I don't like folded clothing. Just some ideas.

Seems more useful if you got the shirt you're wearing dirty and want to clean it quick but doesn't seem to replace a washer and dryer that can hold a lot more. Judging by the tech it's probably very expensive too so you're probably better off getting a top of the line washer and dryer and flooding the clothes yourself.

How is everybody commenting about only washing one piece at a time? Clearly there is a bin to place several items at once. If you can put your day’s clothes in and they’re already washed, “pressed”, and folded, there’s never a need to to an entire load of laundry for clothing. Maybe the bed linens.

If they can't handle laundry let them get used to wrinkles. That's what I call a sustainable life lesson.

Plus anyone else scared of all those moving parts? Got to be prone to breaking down & so many places for it to goof up. I just washed an blouse like that yesterday. Just threw it into the HE washer, pulled out the detergent drawer, pushed it in & then pressed 3 buttons. In 40 minutes it was clean with no mechanical hands necessary.
