The fact that almost every single comment in this video is people crying and or saying how it reminds them of their mother/child shows how powerful this song is
Soon as Dumbo cry's, I just cant control myself. Flat mate walks in "what's wrong, are you ok!". Me "Why do the mean circus people take Dumbo away from his mommy!"
My mother used to sing this to me when she was dying and in hospice. She was concerned about how I was dealing with losing her. When I hear the lyrics "Rest your head close to my heart, never to part, Baby of mine" it all floods back to me. I miss her so much, and this song is my link to her.
wow, just thinking about that is making me feel misty eyed :( I'm really sorry. Believe me, if that was my mother, I would've been crying hysterically. it reminds me of when my grandmother was dying and in hospice. She didn't sing to me but I remember how she kissed me goodbye and when I left the room I was so upset. it sounds like you had a wonderful mom.
No matter how tough you are, Disney movies like these always make you cry, and thats why they are so special. And nobody will ever make movies like that EVER and thats a fact. Disney you are always number 1.
Just listening to this song and trying to avoid that moment, reading all these comments. This one comes up and I decide to go back up to the video, just for that moment. I thought I was gonna be okay, but nope, lol. Instant tears, hhaha :')
I agree. The death of Bambi's mom was sad but the movie seemed to have forgotten about it by the next scene. Dumbo's mom being locked up served as a major plot point to motivated the character. It just tears atthe heart seeing Dumbo so close to his mom yet so far. The song they included made the scene even sadder.
BarryDennen12 Same. When I was young and my parents had to both work I used to watch this movie at my grandparents house and I would think of them... Now I'm the mother of my first child and it always makes me think of her 👼💞💕
ugh...I remembered when i was a little kid and i hated this movie, just for this scene. It got me so emotional that i cried every time and as a boy i couldn't cry in front of anyone (of course). now that i know that men can cry too (at least in privacy, god damn you society) i love this scene.
no, I was afraid of this movie when i was young. and it was MOSTLY for this part. that part when the human guy bullied around with dumbo was also very emotional for me.
Shippmeh I dunno.. for me, this movie wasn't frightening... It was sad, yes, but it was emotional in a good way... When at the end Dumbo and his mom reconciled at last, I was very happy!!!! That's why I love it, till today!!!
yeah, but i was a little boy who was afraid of showing emotions because it would destroy my manliness. thus I hated it, it made me into an emotional clusterfuck.
I have been singing this song to my daughter for 6 years since she was born! There is no love or bond stronger than a loving mom and child it can never be broken.
watched this for the first time again in about 20 years with my 3 year old son. I was balling crying after this part. and i'm 28. as did my girlfriend. his mother lost her mother to cancer a few years back and this part really tore her up. Disney at its finest!
My mom used to sing this too me. I really love this song, it is so dreamy and sweet... I can tell you, that your children will grow up and always remember it... and if they don't well... you can always remind them of it.
Sad to hear, and words cant begin to express how sorry it is to hear of your loss. Peace, Prayers, and Blessing to your family during your mourning. Sincerely, Aharon.
Im 17 and I have not cried in years until now. My mother used to sing this to me when I was younger when I couldn't sleep. This scene is extremely powerful and is well done. And the song too. A mothers love with her child. Its just so disheartening when Dumbo's mother could barely see her child and only can feel and touch him. And the part when they had to see goodbye with only the feel of their trunks, I cried a river. I miss the old Disney. I love you Mommy.
This is certainly one of the most endearing Disney films of all time. The song has a timeless quality and always seems to invoke tremendous emotional response. I'm glad so many of us have that in common. It's a big reason why this film is such a classic.
This scene has always made me cry, its just so beautiful. I can't help but see Walt reflecting on his troubles with the loss of his mother in this scene - he's just a genius, despite what others say.
Ahhhhh, why don't they make more of these painterly type of movies... Even in animation, everything has to look so real... This looks like a story book coming to life...
makes me cry because it reminds me how happy my family use to be before my father left us.my sisters would sing me songs to make me stop crying and they would sing this one.
My mom bought me this movie when I was 4. I loved it so much watching it with her. She died when I was 6...Many years have passed since I watched this and then i found a VHS cassette in my basement of it. This always reminds me of her and how much i love her.
I used to watched this when I was a baby. My mom gave it to me on Christmas. I still have it and I kept it for a long time. I miss her now but at least she is in a better place
I watched this film when I was 2 or 3. My mum walked in at this bit and apparently I had big tears rolling down my face. I haven't watched the film since but I still remember this bit from back then. Thank you so much for posting : )
I hate myself for typing up this scene. Why did i do it? I'll be over 50 and still crying a waterfall when i see this. THIS is one of the saddest Disney moments if all time. so precious :')
The Bette Midler cover of this song was played at my son's funeral. I don't think I have to say that it reduces me to tears. Such a great representation of a mother's love :)
I remember watching this as a small child and being so upset at the idea of that happening to me. I still can't watch it to this day without getting teary eyed. One of the most heart touching moments in cinema.
This is undoubtedly one of the most moving and beautiful scenes and songs in Disney history. It is so very innocent and sad and always brings tears to my eyes. I think of my late parents and my children as babies and it moves me to tears. Truly a masterpiece.
This scene made me cry when I was little. Now that I'm a mama it makes me bawl. I plan on singing this to my little one as soon as I can get through it without my voice cracking. He might not hear it for a while but I'm practicing :)
Dumbo doesn't have the high animation quality as other Disney classics but it has a perfect plot and key scenes that move every viewer. That's why it has stood the test of time and is regarded by many as their favorite film. It's almost impossible to watch this scene and not cry
This is so sad, yet powerful at the same time, it shows the powerful bond between a mother and child, gets me going every time :-( :-( ,got to tell my mum I love her
This scene never fails to make me cry. The worst was when I left home to go to uni in another continent. After unpacking I turned on the telly and THIS SCENE came up on the screen. I called my mother right afterwards, bawling my eyes out.
I used to cry when I watched this because I felt sad for Dumbo. Since I've been a mother myself ,and now a Grandmother even, I sang this song to my own we babes with love. But just a few short years ago I lost my mother suddenly! My life hasn't been the same since. I just feel like my whole world shattered that day. So this song reminds me of what was once upon a time...
TheMSpence89 im really sorry about your loss, a mother is the loving figure in a persons life and to lose that would be devastating, and i hope the best of luck to you in the future
if this isn't one of the most heart breaking moments in cinematic history, I don't know what is :(
nothing like a mamma's love
Hey
The fact that almost every single comment in this video is people crying and or saying how it reminds them of their mother/child shows how powerful this song is
Betty Noyes sung it.
Soon as Dumbo cry's, I just cant control myself. Flat mate walks in "what's wrong, are you ok!". Me "Why do the mean circus people take Dumbo away from his mommy!"
Ur right it's like someone trying to take away from ur mother
My mother used to sing this to me when she was dying and in hospice. She was concerned about how I was dealing with losing her.
When I hear the lyrics "Rest your head close to my heart, never to part, Baby of mine" it all floods back to me.

Oh i'm so sorry. I'm sure your mom is happy in the heaven :) God bless you :)
I'm so sorry.
Awww this made me cry :( I'm so sorry for your loss
I'm in tears!
No matter how tough you are, Disney movies like these always make you cry, and thats why they are so special. And nobody will ever make movies like that EVER and thats a fact. Disney you are always number 1.
brb CRYING FOREVER
Lol
When their trunks meet and Dumbo cries, gets me every time.
I literally cannot watch this video without crying when those tears run down Dumbo's face. Bravo Disney
Just listening to this song and trying to avoid that moment, reading all these comments. This one comes up and I decide to go back up to the video, just for that moment. I thought I was gonna be okay, but nope, lol. Instant tears, hhaha :')
This movie is WAY more sad than Bambi.

Portugal
I'm worried I'll never be able to have children, I want this bond so much. Unconditional love being torn away by circumstances beyond me
I still cry

correction; you hated this scene, not the movie! ;)

Shippmeh no worries!!! I will definitely show this movie to my kids when I have some!!! ;)
I'm not crying , I just have something in my eye...
Or my heart
...
...
Maybe a sword...
Bless you for giving your child the gift of life, and having the courage to put her up for adoption. What you did for her is nothing short of heroic.
So emotional. Dumbo's face at 0:51 makes me cry every time since I watched it 30 years ago...Perfect song to go with it too... Brilliant film.
Every time. The music is perfect and this is why movies like this became instant classics.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who cried to this
I have been singing this song to my daughter for 6 years since she was born! There is no love or bond stronger than a loving mom and child it can never be broken.
Crying manly tears.
Those sneaky ninjas got past our defenses!
watched this for the first time again in about 20 years with my 3 year old son. I was balling crying after this part. and i'm 28. as did my girlfriend. his mother lost her mother to cancer a few years back and this part really tore her up. Disney at its finest!
Excuse me for a minute. I need to tell my Mama I love her.
My mom used to sing this too me. I really love this song, it is so dreamy and sweet... I can tell you, that your children will grow up and always remember it... and if they don't well... you can always remind them of it.

Same here. I cry even if I think about this. This is so touching. The bond and love between a mother and child
I didn't start crying until after the song finished. Then I needed... a moment.
Same here
This is one of the most powerful scenes in the film industry. Beautiful.
This song is the only song that makes me cry, always gets to me :)
I bawl at this movie everytime. It reminds me to be grateful I have such a wonderful mother to call mine. I couldn't imagine my life without her.
“Don’t you cry..”
EASY FOR YOU TO SAY!
Best Disney scene. Period. I am now a 27 yr old man and I am not ashamed to say that I still cry at this. Love you mom

This is certainly one of the most endearing Disney films of all time. The song has a timeless quality and always seems to invoke tremendous emotional response. I'm glad so many of us have that in common. It's a big reason why this film is such a classic.

I've watched this classic since early childhood. I'm 65 years old now and still weep at this song. Disney knew how to touch our hearts.

I used to watched this when I was a baby. My mom gave it to me on Christmas. I still have it and I kept it for a long time. I miss her now but at least she is in a better place
Although this is a sad song in a sad scene of the movie, when I have my own children, I plan to sing this song to them. :)
One of the most beautiful, touching moments in the history of cinema.
Oh my god, this scene always had me bawling as a kid! It made me miss my mom, even though she was sitting right next to me 😂😂😭😭😭

I shouldn't torture myself but this is just so beautiful.
this scene makes m shed a tear or two every time... dumbo will always be my favorite disney cartoon ever.
When dumbo started crying, I started crying
I can't believe after all these years this still makes me cry!
This is undoubtedly one of the most moving and beautiful scenes and songs in Disney history. It is so very innocent and sad and always brings tears to my eyes. I think of my late parents and my children as babies and it moves me to tears. Truly a masterpiece.
This song always make me cry it is so touching, thank u Walt Disney for making such emtional scenes.
This scene made me cry when I was little. Now that I'm a mama it makes me bawl. I plan on singing this to my little one as soon as I can get through it without my voice cracking. He might not hear it for a while but I'm practicing :)

I always thought of my mom when this part came on. It still just tears me apart.
Damn them invisible ninjas cutting onions....
Dumbo doesn't have the high animation quality as other Disney classics but it has a perfect plot and key scenes that move every viewer. That's why it has stood the test of time and is regarded by many as their favorite film. It's almost impossible to watch this scene and not cry

This is by far the saddest scene in animation movies ever.
I'm 38 and I still cry when I hear any version of this song.
MADE Me Cry
I bet millions of viewers cried their eyes out during this time when Dumbo made its theatrical debut back in the 1940s.
Every time.. every time the feels hit me like a truck.
I used to sing this to my kids when they were little. It brought back a lot of memories.
*sob*
this is one of my favorite part of the movie, so sad, yet so sweet
For Petes sake, I am a 53 year old man and this song and this clip ALWAYS has me weeping within mere seconds.
This made me cry, mostly because I wish someone could hold me as lovingly as that.
.
This was the first film I ever cried at, and it still makes me cry today!
