Loved meeting orange, Charlie 😊. Where I am the majority of independent bottles available and Douglas Laings Old Particular and Douglas Murray's Old Malt Cask. We do see others, but the bulk of it is those too. Have had quite a bit of Signatory, but most were ordered from UK shops. Loving the Thompson Brothers, and lucky for me, K&L wine in California gets them. Cheers Stewart
I'm sure Charlie will feature in more videos 😅 DL is a good shout, had a few belters from them. I'm glad you've got access to the Bros, they're great up there.
Happy catting!
Cadenhead's is on top of my list as well.
Cadenhead's is a staple for sure
Good subject matter!
Whilst working off shore in the mid 90's a guy I was working with from Lewis, Ross, would travel back as far as Inverness with me on the train, during which we'd buy a bottle each from Cost Cutter on Dyce High Street to sample a little from each during the journey. Within less than a year we'd pretty much completed all the standard 10 - 12 year olds available, from our train sampling & our own individual endeavours up to that point. The question of what to try next we found quite vexing, the only place to go was up in both age & price it seemed. The old boy who ran Cost Cutter sorted it for us by suggesting a couple of Gordon & MacPhail indy bottles, that was it for me, never looked back. I just like the excitement & ephemeral nature of single cask & small batch to be bothering too much with the branded stuff & all the hype.
I totally agree with the whole existing aspect! For me, it's the same, I enjoy the unknown and the variations you can experience through IBs. All your core OBs are expected to stay the same year in and year out, with some exceptions of course.
The cost cutter in Dyce is still a place I regularly visit to see what curiosities they have tucked away.
Cheers, Willie!
hahaha awesome start, made me smile, cheers
Cats are the best!
This subject cropped up somewhere else the other day, so I've consulted my spreadsheets(!) and my Top 5 are: Gordon & MacPhail (30 bottles currently open), Thompson Bros. (16 open), Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers/Morrison & Mackay (9), That Boutique-y Whisky Company (8) and Elixir Distillers/Speciality Drinks (7). I do have at least some bottles from most of the other obvious IBs, but those are the five with most...
Carn Mor is always a good shout, I just haven't been paying that brand as much interest. I'm surprised by the Boutiquey one, they've never stuck a cord with me. As for Elixir, I have a few, but I don't believe they're open.
Hope you're doing well mate 👍
@@WhiskyWhims I know some people aren't keen on 500ml bottles, so Boutique-y get some negativity from that, but I've been lucky enough to do some tastings with them - not everything is good, but they have had some winners... and I like the cartoony labels too!
Great line up and I totally agree, independent bottlers are usually fantastic!
Can't go too wrong with them 👍
Adorable fella, that Charlie 😺
My wife and I've had cats for 20 years, but we lost the last 2 few years ago due to age.
So over the last couple of years, we've been a foster home for various cats from a nearby shelter. Right now, we're hosting an abandoned cat mom and her three weeks old (young) kittens. Good times 😎
Anyways... enough feline talk.
My top five indie bottlers in no particular order:
Cadenhead
Signatory
North Star
Sansibar
Whiskybroker (incredible prices)
Cheers Stuart 🥃
Ah, great to hear! Cats are pretty awesome.
That's a good list, but I don't think I've tried anything from Sansibar. Whiskybroker could have made my list, but I've not really bought from them in a while. Cheers.
Couldn’t argue with that list Stuart, 👏. Never had many sigatury or cadenheads…..
1,Thompson Brothers
2,James Edie
3, Woodrows
4, Carn Mor
5, North Star
Used to buy carn mor on sigh as releases came, but I’ve drifted from them a lot now. As prices (in general) have risen. Got a lot of NorthStar on the bottom shelf, as such rarely reach for them.
Fragrant Drops and Blind Summit are recent purchases and enjoy them, also managed to get my hands on a few WhiskySponge…. Not opened as yet.
Carn Mor has drifted off my radar too, not intentionally, but just couldn't keep up. They've since reduced the amount of releases, but now I have too many 😅
I've had a few from JE, enjoy their stuff. Woodrow's I've only tried at festivals, but feel their pricing is a little higher than the rest.
You should definitely get your hands on some signatory and Cadenhead's 👍
Hope it is only a short time before Charlie starts thinking he is a Doxie 😉. Heard lots of good things about Fragrant Drops and will keep my eye out for them. Love the Cadenhead's I have currently. Cheers!
Well, he'll be learning from a Doxie so I'm excited to see how he turns out 😅
Definitely get into Fragrant Drops if you have access to them 👍
Agree but id add Rare Find and Chorlton
Rare Find have been hitting it out the park too. I've had one bottle from Chorlton, which was great, but I've not tried anything else from them. Good shout though. AD Rattray could've made my list too
That's a very solid list. I've not tried any fragrant drops. Probably Elixir/Single Malts of Scotland would be in my top 5.
Both good calls! 👍
@@WhiskyWhims will you be at Glasgow Whisky festival this year buddy?
@@markevans7244 unfortunately, I'm at work for those dates. Will you be there?
@@WhiskyWhims I missed out, but hopefully, if I can get an unwanted ticket at a sensible price. It's like trying to get a bottle of Springbank now!
Like cats myself, had an orange fella once (cowboy). Charlie a great name.
My fav Ib…
Cadenhead
Signatory
Adelphi
Gordon & Macphail
Berry bros & Rudd
James Eadie
Duncan Taylor
Just to name a few…
Subbed & look forward to watching your content.
Cowboy is an awesome name!
That is a strong list of IBs. I've not had too much from Duncan Taylor to be honest, I think I've had one of their Octave bottlings and that's it.
Cheers for joining!
