- Representing France in season 12 of RuPaul's Drag Race, Nicky Doll is the first French queen to compete in the olympics of drag. Vogue Paris caught up with her (in Paris, of course) to see how she transforms from Karl Sanchez to Nicky Doll and to find out why we should all be getting behind her.

Asia Palmer To be fair, most monolingual people can’t really understand issues to do with language barriers. Not trying to excuse it but I’m just saying it’s harder for ru to be conscious of it

It's only highlighted because Nicky Doll is white / European specifically French - a language romanticized by Americans. When plastique did a Vietnamese accent speaking English, she was accused of "playing it up". Funny how that works.

Yeah i'm amazed by her accent when switching between english and french. I'm french and if I have to switch it always sounds weird like i'm not sure which accent to use 😆😆

@@nuf412 I'm Portuguese and I speak a lot of English on my day-to-day, so I understand your feelings perfectly, sometimes I'll end up saying the right word with the wrong accent altogether haha.

Jeroen Dejonckheere they love the obnoxiously loud/tacky queens. I kind of lost interest in rpdr last season because some of my favorites were treated very unfairly imo.
PREACH!!! I don’t know why the loud, rude and obnoxious ones always rise to the top - they’re not all a talented or funny as Bianca Del Rio Or Bob the Drag Queen like producers please. There was probably always a level of rigging after all it’s a “reality” show, but lately it feels too much even for RPDR.
Missy Misanthrope same here for me babe..it’s becoming a tacky freakshow instead of letting creativity and personality shine..Nicky is my bestie and i’m happy this clip proves that he is a smart,witty and very talented you g queen.He feels horrible trying to explain how most of what we see on the show is edited and packaged to make him fill the role they casted him for.The snobbish,shady,cold French fashionista...which couldn’t be further from the truth.The reason he got eliminated was mostly because he refused to get sucked in that vortex of total manipulation.So he was useless to them when they realised he was best buddies with most of the queens.Such a shame.

I find it so funny that Ru critiques girls for not having personality on the show. His idea of giving them a chance to show their personality is having them remain silent while he presents challenges, stand in an uncomfortable line up for hours on end getting judged while tired after a full day of filming and challenges, and these challenges consist of the queens being pressured to be funny behind a badly written character or script.
I understand that each episode needs a purpose and a structure but unless they're lucky, loud, cocky or a showboat, theres very little room to express themselves during that show.
This video proves that given the circumstances, the queens with "no personality" CAN make you fall in love with them. It's time to stop applying Drag Race to the Queens and start applying the Queens to Drag Race.

I did like nicky's strategy for going for something out of her comfort zone but sadly was shot down just cuz ru wasnt satisfied with the performance. Its disappointing to see nicky leave cuz she didn't seem snobbish to the girls as I expected. I really wanted to see her runway looks so bad.

“It wasn’t until I started to do drag that I started to assert my self as a man” I love that so much! that is so powerful to me it really shows what drag is capable of it is truly an art form in every sense of the word. That is such a lovely statement I can’t get over it. The balance of femininity and masculinity is beautiful because sometimes the scales tip either way and something amazing happens

Nicky with subtitles is absolute perfection. I'm not interested in even seeing her go back for All Stars. She is so fabulous and every inch a runway model and so stunning then asking her to look silly and unattractive just to prove that she can is in every way wrong. She is going to be so successful that the hundred-thousand-dollar drag race prize will be as much as she makes in a month's time. Go Nicky Dazzle the world.

She was right saying public that having to go in another country to succeed and to fight for your own name it's so so difficult! She did a huge job fighting with the language barriers. I'm a singer songwriter and can't succeed because I'm not in America as well! And that's heartbreaking! So painful 😢

Donc personne ne va parler du fait que les termes "tea", "slay" "mamas" etc., qui selon lui viennent soit disant de la culture drag, viennent en réalité de l'AAVE (African American Vernacular English), l'argot des afro-américain.e.s? Et que ce sont eux qui ont par la suite popularisé cette manière de parler dans la culture ballroom? Cette appropriation sans jamais citer la vraie source, ça commence à bien faire
Toutes les drag queens savent que ces termes viennent de la culture des ball room afro-américains dont le drag fait partie intégrante, elle aurait pu l'expliquer pour précisement, mais c'est juste un get ready with me pas un cours d'histoire.
