After editing 3-4 big production documentaries
I have only 2 tips -
Organize a folder structure before you even create a project and copy it into the project - you will definitely add more footage while working, either add it to it's appropriate folder or create a new folder with the date. But stick to whatever method you choose!!
Do not prepare any more.
Go in.
Edit your ass off and get to know those clips, you will have literally a hundred drafts, you will change things a million times, just get to work, and the mess will slowly disappear and you will be left with a straight coherent line of plot.
You are a brilliant filmmaker. Out of every UA-cam channel there is I find yours the most useful for learning stuff on filmmaking. Keep it up, you are going to go far!

You have done a great job here. Some brilliant tips. And some great skills.
I offer the following in the spirit of stimulation and constructive conversation as you seemed to be trying to initiate discussion.
You have far more technical skill than I do, so I tend to focus on other aspects. I use artiface a little less. And try to concentrate on real moments and real imagery. It's definitely not "better" than what you do, I am not saying that, but it is a diffetent approach. ( Often it depends on the client, and on the story, right?)
For me it is all about the talent, the subject participant. It's about building a relationship with them and getting them to tell you their story. You clearly managed to do that. But here are some of my own tips and observations (from 25 years o factual broadcasting, production and storytelling)
1. Get to know your talent. Spend time. Win their trust before you record anything with them.
2. Getting them to share their story with you honestly and sincerely is the MOST important thing.
3. Get to know your footage once you have shot it. .Really well.
4. Make a paper edit. It's important to have a plan, even if you choose not to follow it.
5. The story comes first. Not your clever idea. It's not about you. Sometimes you're best idea has to be binned. Only one question mattets: Does it work?
6. On a similar note, do not get too attached to a single element because you spent a long time on it or because it was difficult. It's not easy but try to see the bigger picture.
8. Less is often more. (Except when it's not)
7. Real life and rral events often crystallize into a moment. Help you talent to identify those moments, then have them recall them and relive them for you.
8. As well as paying attention to that kind of detail, don't lose sight of the big picture: the pacing and structure are crucial to engaging your audience and helping them to come on the journey with you.

Ga Wa love this! Great advice here and I agree completely. I think it’s important as you said to maintain the balance of getting really close to the story and becoming familiar while still maintaining enough detachment to make critical decisions that can improve it.

I have a high quality IMAC 27" monitor that I thought was calibrated. But when Kriscoart turned on his appropriately colored shadows in shots, I literally saw no change lol. Shadows on left side of the widened interview were black, he added shadows, still black.

Question about editing your film in a different language. Did you have a translator during the editing process (or know the language yourself) to ensure everything made sense and flow correctly?

What is your thought process for picking a music? Do you do it before you jump into a project (if you know exactly what kind of emtion you're trying to show) or do you select your clips, b-roll first and then try to find the music?

What about the music I heard in there? Did you go to a music producer for it or is there a website to get free music from?
How did you make the montage in the end? Did you record the ending in a higher framerate and kept everything else at 24fps?
