I worked at both United and City's grounds installing/updating their new broadcasting studios. One major thing i noticed is that the atmosphere amongst the staff for each ground were poles apart. Everybody seemed happy at City's ground, happy to talk, happy to help. Just happy to be there. Whereas at United's ground, it was fucking miserable. Nobody who worked there wanted to know you, they didn't care who you were or what you were doing.

I'm a United fan, born and raised in Manchester, so standardly I have a fair few City mates I've grown up with over the past 30 years. Saturday was an all time low, lower than even the 6-1. We all met in the pub after the matches, then went back to a mate's gaff with cans to watch MOTD. The City fans we're genuinely crying with joy, real tears, during the United highlights. Never been so miserable in all my life. The blind faith supporter in me still feels we can beat Liverpool on Monday, but my head is also fully aware this could be the worst season ever. Again, great vid Tinashe regardless of the subject. Sad times but chin up lad. GGMU
Having Casemiro and VDB filling out the CDM roles might be the magic bullet we need, but there's still a gaping hole in the back 4. Obviously the fridge has to go. But Shaw and Dalot, while fairly good at fufilling the wing-part of "wingback" - while they've been consistent at applying extra pressure in the flanks of the final third, their actual production when it comes to chance creation is less than stellar. Methinks it would be an even higher hurdle to clear with TAA thrown in against them. Not to mention the aforementioned wingbacks are not the best when it comes to defending their own flank in return... And we still haven't mentioned an out of form Bruno, an out of form Rashford, and a very disgruntled Ronaldo. However, if magic is indeed created, I think Ronaldo might just stay.

2-4 years ago, I was excited about McTominay. I genuinely thought that we had found our own Fletcher to help solidify the defense. So sad that it turned out this way with him.
Bad coaching doesn’t help. He has the fitness, the physical attributes and the attitude to succeed. What he lacks is entirely mental and the absolute lack of coaching in the past half decade is never more evident than when analysing McTominay.

@Will Stubbs if u say the problem is multi faceted, then u cant say that LVG wasn't suitable for the long term rebuild. Despite the awful slow football he played in his second season, he was doing the right thing in terms of long term planning, promoting a lot of youths.

Ten Hag knows now that his pre-season plans are out of the window. If he wants to stand A chance against Liverpool and others, he can only park the bus and hope for something that resembles "counter football". Forget about one touch football, forget about lettin the ball run, forget about tactical play with and without the ball, forget about anything that comes even close to the standard of national and international football. His fundamentals from defence and midfield are not there. He needs a world-class goallie and a world-class defence , just to start with.

Mason Greenwood was their catalyst, he scored in the games where united desperately needed a goal (pre Ronaldo). Him rightfully going to jail was what to me, the start to the new low United started facing.
Greenwood started in the Liverpool and City games at Old Trafford last season which was what really got Ole sacked, he might have made a slight difference but the downfall was well underway when he got arrested
I imagine a lot of the dressing root issues stemmed from it, you never know what's going on behind the scenes, but it's hard to imagine that the revelation didn't have a significant impact on squad synergy.

I stayed up till 5am in Australia to watch Brentford beat us 4 - 0. After the 2nd goal I knew we were going to witness history and I had to stay up to watch it haha Went to Sunday league the next day tired as fuck, and we lost 4 - 1 and the coach told us after the game to watch Brentford vs Manchester United, so we could learn what NOT to do. This is made worse by the fact that about a 3rd of the team are Man City fans (most mental part of this story is that a man city fans exists) and they had not heard about the result yet. I'm going to be honest I'm a disaster tourist and ManU is one of my favorite places to look at to have a good laugh. Even in late Fergie times I felt ManU was having way more luck than quality and he bailed at the correct time as if he knew the peak of overperforming was reached. Anyways for people like me it's going to be a brilliant season to follow, especially after they signed a 30-year old that never really peak performed for tons of money and a huge contract. It's not looking good, bruv. Despite everything, what a wonderful put together video !
I think the magic of the soljkaer temporary role was having a midfield of Matic, Herrera and Pogba, they covered each other well. When Herrera got injured we started to suffer and it continued till the end of the season. If it was evident then that we needed a CM and no action was taken one can wonder how poorly this club is run.

The infuriating thing is I felt Mourinho was doing a great job before the Sanchez destabilised the squad. Solskjaer was frustrating as he was inflexible but again having such a stable squad felt destabalised by having to accomodate Ronaldo. Not Ronaldo's fault it just didnt seem like the same team that were Europa finalists a year earlier. Will be interesting to see if Ten Hag can build form after a rough start and see his vision fulfilled at the club.
My perspective as an Arsenal fan : Man Utd will not allow what happened to Aubameyang and Ozil at Arsenal happened at Man Utd. Arsenal fully backed Arteta to froze out Aubameyang and Ozil then terminate their expensive contract because the cost out weight the damage. And Man Utd renewed Phil Jones contract until 2023.
Ralf was 100% spot on when he said the club needed open heart surgery. I think the owners and the board underestimated his analysis and that led to him leaving in the summer. I don’t blame ETH in any capacity for the results early this season. The pattern is there, the behaviour of the players. The point about the ownership is crucial. The Glaziers have taken £1bn in dividends since taking over in 2005. If they did not have to meet this and annual £60m interest payments they would have had an additional £1.6pm in potential transfer fees. They could have blown any team out the water with their financials.
Mourinho is known for getting the best out of what he has. At Madrid he had players he wanted, he eventually won La Liga with a record 100 points playing some of the most electric counter attacking football ever seen. At United he didn't, so he played boring defensive football, and still left with a Europaleague, League cup , Fa cup and comm shield. Firing him was the worst decision that club has made, shouldve sold Pogba immediately after the Mourinho spat.
Was planning to go see the Liverpool match with my dad before I leave the UK as I didn’t know when I could see the next match would be. But after that Brentford game we decided we weren’t gonna go cause of how awful they were.
I think too long was spent looking at the managers, when the issue appeared to be with the players. Most are good players, but good players don't always equate to a good team. The owners have to be looked at too, and so too the attitudes of the players, how much they're paid and building from there.
As a City and football fan, the downfall of United in recent times has gotten me conflicted. It's amazing to see United fans constantly shouting about their "history" finally shutting up almost a decade after Ferguson left, but it's really sad knowing that my favorite game of the year will likely not be exciting anymore.
United need to go through what Liverpool did, they need a full refresh, slowly weed out every name and get used to midtable for a few years to build a foundation to grow from

Part of Man U's decline (especially recently) is the rise of all five of the other "big six" clubs. For example, when Ole finished 2nd and 3rd, Arsenal and Spurs completely shat the bed, and Chelsea was too inconsistent. Last season and this season, all the other clubs strengthened and seem to have direction & the hunger to win
The constant firing of managers, overpaying players who just aren’t plain good enough like Fred, Maguire, Martial and Rashford are primary problems. Then factor in poor recruiting as well as the players being too soft and can’t be yelled at. The culture in football has to change. No player is too big to be yelled at for a poor performance. Mourinho, Van Gaal and Moyes are all good managers. Why they got fired is beyond me. I hate United but the solution is simple. Give the manager 5 years, don’t expect miracles.

I have a theory about why things went south in 21/22 and I've yet to hear anyone else mention it. In the 3rd or 4th game of the season, Harry took a knock to his knee, but he didn't come out of the game and he kept playing every game after. This was the beginning of his decline and every side we faced seemed to be aware of it as they made a fool of time and again. I'm not sure if losing him would have gone any better, but I'm pretty sure (80%) that Harry was playing injured and everything just seemed to unravel once that thread was pulled. Just my theory but, go back and watch those games if you can and you might find where he got hurt. He has never been the same since.
Ten Hag did well against Liverpool but the biggest problems still remain. Bad players will keep getting regular time and the owners will remain the same. Ten Hag will either get the sack or leave eventually.
It all started going wrong when they sold Ronaldo for 80 mil and replaced him and Tevez with Owen, Valencia and Obertan. It's been downhill from there.
The more I learn about European football Manchester united reminds me more and more of the Dallas cowboys. For those who know, you know. From the fans to the field it's like a parallel. I'm a Bayern Munich fan and I always enjoy the rivalry between ManU in the Champions League. Both sides have memorable matches. I always loved whenever we have the chance to beat ManU. But seeing ManU now...this makes me sad and I feel for them, y'know? Even though that I expect Bayern to win against ManU, I always want to see ManU at their highest level. At the level of them deserving to be in the Champions League. I hope they'll get back to their feet soon and reach top level again.
I just want to say with regards to the 2013 title winning team. The key changes were Paul Scholes leaves, SAF and David Gill leave. The key coaching team leave. So it is not like for like. You have a major disruption of players accustomed to behaviours they consistently follow day in and out for weeks, months and years. Anyone new slips into this pattern. First training is disrupted with no gradual shift. Including the famous 'chips' comment from Ferdinand. Second the key passing and player positioning patterns are disrupted to accomodate the Manager's change in style and key signing. How can we expect results to be consistent to the season before when the coaching, training and tactics changed from the season before? Felaini is not Scholes and plays a completely different role. Maybe someone like Fabregas could have played a role to keep united competative and playing similar football, but Felani is a complete departure from the prior mode of play.
You should have reminded us on how Maguire, Shaw, Rashford, Martial ,Fred were responsible for making united what's now . Seems like this Maguire uses charms in maintaining his captaincy.
The biggest issue is with Maguire. If you have a completely inept player as your captain and getting game time despite being worse than horrible, it sends a bad message to the rest of the team. Mediocrity is ok, tolerable, acceptable, or even to be rewarded. Then there is Rashford, who is more interested in being a wannabe philanthropist than actually putting in a performance on the pitch. I pity Shaw, Martial, and Fred to a certain extent. Shaw had a horrible injury record IIRC and having to cover for a Maguire sized black hole day in day out is not going to be good for your mental health. Same with Martial, with the club pining for the likes of Lukaku, Sanchez, and Cavani up top over him. Then again, his poor loan spell didn't help his case. For Fred, he has never been given a chance to shine alongside a proper CDM. He is better going forward but because he is shackled to McTominay, who is also better going forward, the partnership suffers.

But for real though, ronaldinho was great. I dont know about what would have happened if ronaldinho could have prolonged his career. But at his best which was about 2-3 years at Barcelona, He was great to watch, honestly Ronaldinho is great to watch anyway, dont matter which age to be honest. Ronaldinho is probably one of few footballers who are loved no matter what team one support. Obviously he played for Barca, AC Milan etc. Clubs that have big rivalries. I start by saying I'm a Liverpool supporter. Last year, I was so surprised to see Man U drop sooo low ! I mean, they seemed like they were on the up, they brought insane players like CR7, Varane and Sancho, and Solkjaer looked to be in control, though he's not the best tactician there is. So, to thrash them 0-5 at Old Trafford and then 4-0 ! I was very happy about it of course, but very surprised too. I trully expected Man U to be third, and closing the gap to City and us, like 10 points behind or something. But Man U is the perfect example that if your owners don't give a shit about football, you can do whatever you want, the odds are very strongly against you. Even if you're the richest club in the world, spend 1.5 billion in 10 years trying to get the best players and managers. On the opposite side, at Liverpool, our owners (other Americans) are specialized in sports first, which is a good thing, arrived when the club was at a historic low, but they did everything to bring back the club to the top and achieved it in just nearly 6 years. The Glazers bought a club on the top of Football, had years and years under one of the greatest managers ever, with the capacity to stack money to prepare the post-Ferguson era, they had the money and reputation to bring in whoever they wanted not only as manager, but as director of football and as CEO, and even as scouts, coaches, etc... And yet, when Ferguson left, the club crumbled... It all starts with the fact that for the Glazers, Manchester United isn't a fan favourite football club, that inspires millions of people all around the world. For them, it is a cow that produces a lot of milk. So they milk it like crazy, they focus only on the business side of things. I don't even understand why they decide to bring players the managers don't want. What is the point? Why bring Fred, Fellaini the legend, or take insane risks like with Sanchez? Who decides those things? I don't wish Man U to win, obviously, but I'm not wishing Manchester fans to be desperate either. We Liverpool fans were desperate from 2009 to 2015 (except the 2013-2014 title chase) and that is hard. I want our biggest rival to be strong so that the Derby of England continues to mean something ! We'll see what happens tonight, but Man U looks so weak and fragile... If the Glazers are to stay, the best thing would be to give ten Hag some time, time to rebuild, time to build his own team and develop his style. Look how much time it took Klopp to bring us in title contention. In 2015-2016 we finished 8th ! Man U would have just sacked him ! Then we finished 4th twice in a row. Nothing exceptionnal right? But then we finished 2nd and won the UCL, then the PL the next year. Now we are extremely strong. And Klopp had a much weaker side when he arrived than what Ten Had has right now !!! So, give him time. He won't build a world class team in one year (most likely anyway), but give him 3 years and you may be in title contention once again. We'll see. They've turned Man U into the Yucs. When they took over the Bucs they did the same thing. Difference being that the NFL has salary caps so they have to spend a set amount on players and after the 02 super bowl they were complete trash (back to the Yucs) until Tom Brady decided to go down there.
Well this is gonna be Man Utds form for a couple of seasons whilst Erik rebuilds the club as its not just the players he needs to replace and sort out, its the staff as well and if he's lucky the owners might leave but I doubt that will happen. Also great video.
Don't forget the fact that Rangnick straight up came out and told everyone that most of the squad had to be replaced in order to progress. He was then removed from the club and nothing has changed🤣 It's just laughable how this club is being run
Here in Germany, Ralf Rangnick is seen as on of the best German managers there is. (Klopp and others have called him the best and their idol) The fact that what Mourinho has said about ManU seems so obvious now, and Rangnick, after coming back as a manager after having had Burnout and instantly wanting to leave again, shows to me that no manager will have lasting success, unless something changes at the top.
I always felt like Rangnick was past his prime. What was his last managerial success? Things changed a lot since the last time he lead a club to glory. My very biased German opinion.

I mean having half a season is really not much to change a club that has struggled for years and Rangnick usually has needed time to really leave his mark. And even if he was more to blame, I’m sure most elite managers today couldn’t have done better in the time given. (How could anyone: different scheme fits, management problems etc.)

I keep seeing people say Maguire is not as bad as people think, but when you watch him it's clear he is. Honestly every game he makes a shambolic mistake that leads to a goal, often more than once. No other defender in the PL would continue to get game time with his record

City had a Director of Football there recruiting technical players for 5 years before Pep got there. Fernandinho, KDB, David Silva, were all there. He says I need a keeper who can play out and a CB and they went and got them.

That's interesting. A bad atmosphere behind the scenes is bound to have at least some impact on the pitch.
It's the impact that good ownership can have. Good owners pick good managers, and down the chain it goes until you get to the lower level staffers.

2-4 years ago, I was excited about McTominay. I genuinely thought that we had found our own Fletcher to help solidify the defense. So sad that it turned out this way with him.
Bad coaching doesn’t help. He has the fitness, the physical attributes and the attitude to succeed. What he lacks is entirely mental and the absolute lack of coaching in the past half decade is never more evident than when analysing McTominay.
Fletcher was bang average! He stopped looking like a decent player the minute Fergie retired.

Mason Greenwood was their catalyst, he scored in the games where united desperately needed a goal (pre Ronaldo). Him rightfully going to jail was what to me, the start to the new low United started facing.

Went to Sunday league the next day tired as fuck, and we lost 4 - 1 and the coach told us after the game to watch Brentford vs Manchester United, so we could learn what NOT to do. This is made worse by the fact that about a 3rd of the team are Man City fans (most mental part of this story is that a man city fans exists) and they had not heard about the result yet. I'm going to be honest I'm a disaster tourist and ManU is one of my favorite places to look at to have a good laugh. Even in late Fergie times I felt ManU was having way more luck than quality and he bailed at the correct time as if he knew the peak of overperforming was reached.
Anyways for people like me it's going to be a brilliant season to follow, especially after they signed a 30-year old that never really peak performed for tons of money and a huge contract. It's not looking good, bruv.

I think the magic of the soljkaer temporary role was having a midfield of Matic, Herrera and Pogba, they covered each other well. When Herrera got injured we started to suffer and it continued till the end of the season. If it was evident then that we needed a CM and no action was taken one can wonder how poorly this club is run.

The infuriating thing is I felt Mourinho was doing a great job before the Sanchez destabilised the squad. Solskjaer was frustrating as he was inflexible but again having such a stable squad felt destabalised by having to accomodate Ronaldo. Not Ronaldo's fault it just didnt seem like the same team that were Europa finalists a year earlier.
Will be interesting to see if Ten Hag can build form after a rough start and see his vision fulfilled at the club.

Ralf was 100% spot on when he said the club needed open heart surgery. I think the owners and the board underestimated his analysis and that led to him leaving in the summer. I don’t blame ETH in any capacity for the results early this season. The pattern is there, the behaviour of the players.
The point about the ownership is crucial. The Glaziers have taken £1bn in dividends since taking over in 2005. If they did not have to meet this and annual £60m interest payments they would have had an additional £1.6pm in potential transfer fees. They could have blown any team out the water with their financials.
Mourinho is known for getting the best out of what he has.

I think too long was spent looking at the managers, when the issue appeared to be with the players. Most are good players, but good players don't always equate to a good team. The owners have to be looked at too, and so too the attitudes of the players, how much they're paid and building from there.
As a City and football fan, the downfall of United in recent times has gotten me conflicted.
It's amazing to see United fans constantly shouting about their "history" finally shutting up almost a decade after Ferguson left, but it's really sad knowing that my favorite game of the year will likely not be exciting anymore.
United need to go through what Liverpool did, they need a full refresh, slowly weed out every name and get used to midtable for a few years to build a foundation to grow from

Part of Man U's decline (especially recently) is the rise of all five of the other "big six" clubs. For example, when Ole finished 2nd and 3rd, Arsenal and Spurs completely shat the bed, and Chelsea was too inconsistent. Last season and this season, all the other clubs strengthened and seem to have direction & the hunger to win

The constant firing of managers, overpaying players who just aren’t plain good enough like Fred, Maguire, Martial and Rashford are primary problems. Then factor in poor recruiting as well as the players being too soft and can’t be yelled at. The culture in football has to change. No player is too big to be yelled at for a poor performance. Mourinho, Van Gaal and Moyes are all good managers. Why they got fired is beyond me. I hate United but the solution is simple. Give the manager 5 years, don’t expect miracles.

I have a theory about why things went south in 21/22 and I've yet to hear anyone else mention it. In the 3rd or 4th game of the season, Harry took a knock to his knee, but he didn't come out of the game and he kept playing every game after. This was the beginning of his decline and every side we faced seemed to be aware of it as they made a fool of time and again. I'm not sure if losing him would have gone any better, but I'm pretty sure (80%) that Harry was playing injured and everything just seemed to unravel once that thread was pulled. Just my theory but, go back and watch those games if you can and you might find where he got hurt. He has never been the same since.

I just want to say with regards to the 2013 title winning team. The key changes were Paul Scholes leaves, SAF and David Gill leave. The key coaching team leave. So it is not like for like.
You have a major disruption of players accustomed to behaviours they consistently follow day in and out for weeks, months and years. Anyone new slips into this pattern.
First training is disrupted with no gradual shift. Including the famous 'chips' comment from Ferdinand.
Second the key passing and player positioning patterns are disrupted to accomodate the Manager's change in style and key signing.
How can we expect results to be consistent to the season before when the coaching, training and tactics changed from the season before? Felaini is not Scholes and plays a completely different role. Maybe someone like Fabregas could have played a role to keep united competative and playing similar football, but Felani is a complete departure from the prior mode of play.
You should have reminded us on how Maguire, Shaw, Rashford, Martial ,Fred were responsible for making united what's now . Seems like this Maguire uses charms in maintaining his captaincy.
The biggest issue is with Maguire. If you have a completely inept player as your captain and getting game time despite being worse than horrible, it sends a bad message to the rest of the team. Mediocrity is ok, tolerable, acceptable, or even to be rewarded.
Then there is Rashford, who is more interested in being a wannabe philanthropist than actually putting in a performance on the pitch.
I pity Shaw, Martial, and Fred to a certain extent. Shaw had a horrible injury record IIRC and having to cover for a Maguire sized black hole day in day out is not going to be good for your mental health. Same with Martial, with the club pining for the likes of Lukaku, Sanchez, and Cavani up top over him. Then again, his poor loan spell didn't help his case. For Fred, he has never been given a chance to shine alongside a proper CDM. He is better going forward but because he is shackled to McTominay, who is also better going forward, the partnership suffers.

I start by saying I'm a Liverpool supporter.
Last year, I was so surprised to see Man U drop sooo low ! I mean, they seemed like they were on the up, they brought insane players like CR7, Varane and Sancho, and Solkjaer looked to be in control, though he's not the best tactician there is. So, to thrash them 0-5 at Old Trafford and then 4-0 ! I was very happy about it of course, but very surprised too. I trully expected Man U to be third, and closing the gap to City and us, like 10 points behind or something.
But Man U is the perfect example that if your owners don't give a shit about football, you can do whatever you want, the odds are very strongly against you. Even if you're the richest club in the world, spend 1.5 billion in 10 years trying to get the best players and managers.
On the opposite side, at Liverpool, our owners (other Americans) are specialized in sports first, which is a good thing, arrived when the club was at a historic low, but they did everything to bring back the club to the top and achieved it in just nearly 6 years.
The Glazers bought a club on the top of Football, had years and years under one of the greatest managers ever, with the capacity to stack money to prepare the post-Ferguson era, they had the money and reputation to bring in whoever they wanted not only as manager, but as director of football and as CEO, and even as scouts, coaches, etc... And yet, when Ferguson left, the club crumbled...
It all starts with the fact that for the Glazers, Manchester United isn't a fan favourite football club, that inspires millions of people all around the world. For them, it is a cow that produces a lot of milk. So they milk it like crazy, they focus only on the business side of things.
I don't even understand why they decide to bring players the managers don't want. What is the point? Why bring Fred, Fellaini the legend, or take insane risks like with Sanchez? Who decides those things?
I don't wish Man U to win, obviously, but I'm not wishing Manchester fans to be desperate either. We Liverpool fans were desperate from 2009 to 2015 (except the 2013-2014 title chase) and that is hard.
I want our biggest rival to be strong so that the Derby of England continues to mean something ! We'll see what happens tonight, but Man U looks so weak and fragile...
If the Glazers are to stay, the best thing would be to give ten Hag some time, time to rebuild, time to build his own team and develop his style. Look how much time it took Klopp to bring us in title contention. In 2015-2016 we finished 8th ! Man U would have just sacked him ! Then we finished 4th twice in a row. Nothing exceptionnal right? But then we finished 2nd and won the UCL, then the PL the next year. Now we are extremely strong.
And Klopp had a much weaker side when he arrived than what Ten Had has right now !!! So, give him time. He won't build a world class team in one year (most likely anyway), but give him 3 years and you may be in title contention once again.

Here in Germany, Ralf Rangnick is seen as on of the best German managers there is. (Klopp and others have called him the best and their idol) The fact that what Mourinho has said about ManU seems so obvious now, and Rangnick, after coming back as a manager after having had Burnout and instantly wanting to leave again, shows to me that no manager will have lasting success, unless something changes at the top.
I always felt like Rangnick was past his prime. What was his last managerial success? Things changed a lot since the last time he lead a club to glory. My very biased German opinion.

I mean having half a season is really not much to change a club that has struggled for years and Rangnick usually has needed time to really leave his mark. And even if he was more to blame, I’m sure most elite managers today couldn’t have done better in the time given. (How could anyone: different scheme fits, management problems etc.)
@@jochenklausberger9076 and more to your point: I’d agree that Rangnick isn’t the same anymore, especially not when you consider for how long he has managed, how many years he was absent and because of his burnout. Still, I believe a out of prime Rangnick is probably more capable than most of ManU‘s managers since Ferguson.
So why he was there as a coach ? There is lacking credibility of taking his job seriously.
I keep seeing people say Maguire is not as bad as people think, but when you watch him it's clear he is. Honestly every game he makes a shambolic mistake that leads to a goal, often more than once. No other defender in the PL would continue to get game time with his record
Great stuff. As someone who supported Chelsea even before the Russian money showed up, I waited for a long time to watch United fans humbled, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.
