  • Spying for Queen Elizabeth I was very different from modern-day intelligence services - or was it? This lecture brings together historian Stephen Alford and Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of MI6, and will discuss Tudor spies and the modern-day secret service.
This lecture celebrates 500 years since the birth of William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, an intelligence-gatherer for Elizabeth I across Europe, who also brought his son, Sir Robert Cecil, into the world of secret Elizabethan intelligence.
The lecture also looks at the use of secret communications like codes and cipher.

Congratulations, Lord Mayor. I adore Queen Elizabeth I, one of my favorite historical figures. Indeed, William Cecil was a formidable defender of Her Majesty; he was certainly a remarkable, brilliant individual. BRAVO!

They don't talk much about the original 007 , John Dee . Even in the Elizabeth films they don't bring up Dee. Cecil , Burly , Bacon , but not much about Dee.

53:00 Is the prime minister subject to the law? Why should they not be told I can't under the law tell you that? Or perhaps you can not ask that. Perhaps strategic resignations might by law be mandated.

One would think that the City of London would be able to hire someone who spoke English to do the subtitles.
    Barbara concentre! Hilarious!
Not a minute later we are given some history about the Chuda (sic) = (I kid you not) spies.
We believe that every person is entitled to a high level of cultcha too.

There’s so much more to this story ( Dr John Dee ) than what’s been presented? Someone is going to get to bottom of this.
