- A family best known for producing one of England’s most famous queen consorts started out owning substantial estates in Norfolk before buying, and inheriting, a series of major houses close to London. These mansions became the stage for the tragedy of Ann‘s life and death.
New research allows us to understand the role of property owning at the heart of the story of the Boleyn family.
A lecture by Simon Thurley CBE.
The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website:

Love listening to these lectures.
I love these lectures. It is a wonder for Tudor lovers and for those who like to know the more private part of their lives, where they lived, what they owned, how it all worked, the system, the management, the burocracy, the inheritance, things and transference of properties. In conclusion for me, the Boleyns were more wealthy and well placed than I thought.
Thank you.
Same, I never knew they owned so much property! Amazing lecture!
Great lecture and very interesting to watch.
I just love English history.
Ahhhhhhh. It's nice to be back 🙏
Fab, thank you! x
Simon says that Anne's income in her first year as queen was about five thousand pounds (at about 44.00). By way of contrast - Hans Holbein who she hired as royal portraitist (ua-cam.com/video/cWGvPjNPo1U/v-deo.html at 35.49) was paid thirty pounds a year.
Thanks for posting. I watched it live but it blacked out after a few minutes.
Blickling!
Wonder if he sprays his family at the dinner table...
?
Eh?
