I sort of 'accidentally' stumbled upon this video, but enjoyed every second of it. A very clear and understandable explanation of your work, containg very ingenius modifications by yourself. I realy love both the idea of the clear polycarbonate top and that of the 'pressure pump leak check' system.
Outstanding review. I worked on nuclear submarines @ General Dynamics Electric Boat Division for about 2 1/2 years in the late 70's early 80's. Worked both Trident and Los Angeles class types. Would love to get into a hobby like this, very interesting.
The kit came with all of the detail that you see. It is the MasterScale version from Engel of Germany. Missiles are a definite possibility and have been implemented successfully by other builders. Propulsion for them typically comes from airbrush propellant, which is basically compressed gas. I can tell you that from my experience with working torpedos, gas propelled missiles are easily implemented, though having them fly straight is another issue...
The periscope mechanism itself is almost entirely situated outside the pressure hull above the lid. The only penetration is for the motor shaft itself, which uses Engel's seal system composed of brass rod and tube with a silicone rubber sleeve over it.
A little vaseline certainly won't hurt, but if I'm not mistaken both Engel and OTW recommend against grease on the orings. Grease tends to trap dirt and other particles and can lead to leaks if not kept clean. I usually keep mine grease-free and just ensure that the seal faces are clean and clear of contaminants before I tighten it down.
These boats need five channels minimum to operate: throttle, rudder, dive planes, ballast and ballast trim. Extra features such as the bow retracts and periscopes add additional channels. I was running seven on this particular boat. There is no reason you couldn't upgrade to brushless. Just bear in mind that you'd need to run a gearbox which increases complexity. The ones in this kit are actually quite efficient and run times of 2hrs are perfectly achievable.
I always wanted to build an accurate as possible model of a German u boat with the ability to submerge at will and fire working torpedoes. I worked in ship yards for years and even worked on a few subs. The hull is insanely complicated and it's amazing to me what these machines are built to withstand. The modern nuclear submarine is made to contract so much that a clothes lines tied taught from one bulk head to another on the surface will be lying on the deck when fully submerged. My plan was to weld up the hull out of aluminum panels but when it came to making an actual firing torpedo that will load, fire and actually strike something and explode I was in over my head.
Engel sells their gasket material on their site. Its basically rubber rod. Just set it along the path you need and silicone it down in place, making sure that its secured well. Plain old silicone works well, too. Spray the bottom of your lid with mold release agent, or use vaseline along the face where it will Lay a good bead around your seal area and then press it down gently on your silicone. Let it dry, and voila! you have a seal that is perfectly formed to your lid!
in fresh water you can get about 20 ft deep and still ain't a in control, however any contaminants in the water such as minerals, chemicals, and especially salt will reduce that significantly.
Hey *RCSubGuy!* Here's an idea: build the *Red October!* Here's how: ·parts 1- 1:100 Typhoon rc sub 2- two hydrojets (google rc water jet engine) 3- mesh screening to place over jet intakes in order to prevent F.O.D. (Foreign Object Damage: a mechanic's way of saying your engine swallowed something it shouldn't have) 4- doors that open and close in order to cover the jet intakes and exhausts, to maintain hydrodynamic efficiency when operating on just the screw propellers.
You'll be looking at around $3K with delivery from Germany for the kit. You've still got to get it together and buy a radio system for it on top of that. Not cheap, but its a beautiful kit worth every penny!
Buy the Revell Type VII kit. Its a styrene model, but perfectly suited to R/C conversion. You can find them around if you search for them for around $80 or $100US.
You can buy it from Engel out of Germany. With shipping to the US you'd be into it for over $3K, and that's just for parts. Double that to get it put together by a reputable builder for you, or allocate a good month of steady work to get it built, especially if you haven't got much experience with RC subs. DEFINITELY NOT recommended for beginners!
This dude is living the dream. Not sure what car that is in the background but it sure as hell inst a Ford. BTW I looked this submarine up and it was like 3000 euros or something. Pretty cool...
I hope you never see this submarine, I served on this ship, this is a very serious force. After modernization, one of the Sharks is again part of the Russian navy.
That is a very cool submarine!! I was wondering if you could ever make it fire rockets from the missle tubes? Also, did you ever build a 1/100 scale of the Ohio class model sub, and make a video of it like the Typhoon? Very good video!
Vertically fired missiles are certainly possible, though significant re-arranging of internal components would need to take place. I have not yet had the opportunity to build an Ohio class boat, unfortunately.
Greate work! separate gratitude for the anthem! At first: how you made imitation of the rubber plates covering a facing of the light casing? secondly: the mdel is wonderfull, but power of submarines is rockets - what do you think about GUIDED missiles?
I want to start with this hobby, but I don't know which submarine to start with. I have experience at building rc scale model ships. Now I think I have to go with an engel modell(there are really no other sub. kits wich are considerable for me). So there's the Typhoon and the Akula, which one is more appropriate for a medium level beginner? Time is not a problem. I have contact to an rc ship sailing club(I guess you call it like that?) if that matters. Id really like to hear your advice Greetings from germany 🇩🇪
The Engel boat is a lot of work and your build time is a function of what needs to be done, but moreso your skill level. I'd say that you'll need to allocate between 100 and 200 hours to the construction.
Hi, I was wondering If there is any version of this video in Spanish . My English Ins´t good enough And I have to watch it and Understand it . Thank you !
you can order the kits from engel, but if you want a completed kit you'll need to contract with a builder. I would iffer, but my queue is full until 2017. Expect pricing over $6k for a built model from a builder worth his glue!
+RCSubGuy Wow. I was thinking about getting a decent RC submarine for my birthday that is really easy to build, or does not have to be built at all! Do you have any suggestions? My price range is $2k
And when I think about it $2k is the wage of an african that works nonstop for 5-6 years and you are buying it for your birthday well bro have fun with your new toy
That'll get you close! It's all dependent on USD/Euro exchange (which is great right now!), desired features and builder workloads. You can also go with a simpler internal setup (which I would do myself if I built the boat for my own use), which would also save considerable cost.
The Engel kit will set you back around $3KUSD just in parts and shipping. If you want a professional to assemble, test and trim... you can easily double that. Hope that helps!
Haha. I see that they have allready asked for the possibility of small rockets. I allways liked rc ships and particularly u-boats and submarines. Unfortunatelly even the best scale ship loose half of its scale appearence when in the water. Rc ship modelers must work to found a liquid that immitates in scale the sea water.
just started researching boats and subs. ive been into cars and helis for quite a few years. how many channels does this model need? could you upgrade the motors to brushless? you would get better run times with a lipo brushless combo i would imagine.
wow, lots of channels, too cool. i didnt think about the battery capacity you were running. must be pretty high, im guessing around 5000 mAh? i get about that much time in my car. as far as the brushless, i wasnt thinking something like a Mamba Max pro. that would turn the boat into a torpedo and rip it to shreds. but a small brushless on a direct drive maybe? i dont know, i just hate seeing such a beautiful model with ugly 550 cans powering her. bling factor, thats just my opinion.
I felt like standing up when I heard the stirring Russian choir, a touching show of respect for submariners everywhere.
The dry hull is very thick and strong, made from 3/16" thick fiberglass with 1/4" thick lexan lids. It is a very solid, strong (and very heavy) boat!
I sort of 'accidentally' stumbled upon this video, but enjoyed every second of it.

Very impressive. The plexy also allows you to visually check compression on the seals, very useful mod.
That is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Most beautiful submarine ever.. and a gorgeous rc! 😍👌

thanks for the advise... I will try one of these, thanks again

HUGE submarine man,i really like submarines
I LIKES SUBMARINES!!! BIG SUBMARINES SUBMNARINES AWESOME! Do you play Silent hunter or anything. Submarines are awesome.
Great kit wish I could afford it nice car in the back.
NICE MAN,GOOD WORK !GREETZ FROM CROATIA!
This dude is living the dream. Not sure what car that is in the background but it sure as hell inst a Ford. BTW I looked this submarine up and it was like 3000 euros or something. Pretty cool...
Where can I get the 1:1 scale?
In soviet RUSSIA
+german cavallo They have been scrapped for parts, unfortunately.
***** I think that two of them remain docked for historical reasons. I read it somewhere
AriT020 uncle Vladimir might have one spare should i ask him for you komrad3
I hope you never see this submarine, I served on this ship, this is a very serious force. After modernization, one of the Sharks is again part of the Russian navy.
Bravo,exelent,bonne continuation,bon travail.
Wow, I didn't realize the Russian Sub was so huge.
wow thats big nice job
that dry hull must be able to take some decent internal pressure from the ballast tanks filling :)
Engel of Germany is the seller of this great kit. Check out their site by Googling their site.
fascinating model + awesome build -must be very expensive to buy i have innate curiosity about submarines !!!!!!!
и почему я всегда подпеваю когда звучит гимн России или СССР?
Я тоже :)
Huh..?😅
She is beautiful comrade.

That would have been a cool sub to build! Bummer.
Nice car
I really hope his wife supports his endevours. I could hear mine now.....
amazing!
Fucking beautiful.
I am currently building a sub and I'd like to know what do use to make a good waterproof gasket
We caught a boomer coming out of the barn.
But where this sub in action? Have you any video? Would be great to see.
well explanation interior equipment..thank you sir.where i can get such model in smaller scale...
great video what car is that in the back
dual props cool ... so does that whole hull fill up with water except for the dry-hull part ?
Greate work! separate gratitude for the anthem!
At first: how you made imitation of the rubber plates covering a facing of the light casing?
secondly: the mdel is wonderfull, but power of submarines is rockets - what do you think about GUIDED missiles?
awesome,, sadly i could never afford it and make it.... cant even make a model kit correctly
omg i want to build this but ive never built a sub before
Let's see some videos of that Noble you have
I want to start with this hobby,

Greetings from germany 🇩🇪
For the gasket on the main hatch, do you recomend a light coat of vaseline?
PS: nice car man ;)
At least they made the KV-2 with the 152mm derp gun in the USSR
What is the maximum deep you can submerge?
Looks like a Nobel M12
Where are the catterpiller drives ???
Hi, I´m thinking of one as for a winter project. How long time did it take you to build it?
The Engel boat is a lot of work and your build time is a function of what needs to be done, but moreso your skill level. I'd say that you'll need to allocate between 100 and 200 hours to the construction.

I'm planning on building a 1:72 scale Type VII U-Boat. What would you recommend I do for the hull?
Thumbs up if you saw the sub from 20,000 leagues under the sea :)
Can I buy one and gave u build it for me
Where can I get the assembled version? I'm not a fan of kits. And does it come with the RC controller? How much is it?
I love submarines

+Submarines_101 That's a realistic budget and I think you'll have good luck. Email me at bob@rc-sub.com and we can pick this conversation up for you .
+RCSubGuy Thank! I like that you are active and engaged with people that are seeking advice in the field of RC submarines. You rock RCsubguy!
And when I think about it $2k is the wage of an african that works nonstop for 5-6 years and you are buying it for your birthday well bro have fun with your new toy
Afraid RED STARS , arent you ?
How do you git sub dive kits
How much money
how much is this kit
Where did you buy this model?
How did you seal the periscope system ?
I need this price
How did you make the body?
This kit is offered by Engel of Germany and that is the source of the hull.
So 6k for like one in the video?
That'll get you close! It's all dependent on USD/Euro exchange (which is great right now!), desired features and builder workloads. You can also go with a simpler internal setup (which I would do myself if I built the boat for my own use), which would also save considerable cost.

The Russian is the best full navy, air force and arms.....
Not sure what sort of paint chips you are eating but they do not, never have. They simply HAD strength in numbers.
mynameisray lead paint
+1
lol the russians just make things to big to be practical... like jets 9 tories tall, subs that are used for 2 years then scrapped in the artic
American navy nut: (sigh) I guess..
where u got it?
Can some one tell me the link
made that much money with the
How much in American dollars?

Makes me want to eat blini and stroganoff just looking at it 🤷

That conning tower is absolutely terrible.
Altought is prettier than original, its shape is wrong, same as the hull...
Peter Jackson nah, the hull is supposed to elliptical, the bow looks like it might be a bit long, is that what you were talking about?
Дали распилить, утилизировать чужим. Зачем? Сами не могли?)

Google Engel submarines and you'll find their site. I'd post the link, but UA-cam doesn't allow it...
