- 09.29.2020 | 3:00 PM | SANTA CLARITA (CNS) - A 230-acre fire in the Castaic Canyons area near Santa Clarita was 40% contained Tuesday, and evacuation orders remained in place for 10 to 12 homes, officials said.
The Martindale Fire broke out at 3 p.m. Monday in the 34700 block of Bouquet Canyon Road, about two miles southwest of the Bouquet Reservoir, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
More than 12 aircraft were dispatched to battle the blaze, including five airtankers, two Super Scoopers and three helicopters.
Firefighters reported that the fire was burning in medium brush amid gusty winds Monday, during the last hours of a red flag warning for extreme fire danger due to low humidity and Santa Ana winds. The Angeles National Forest declared a second alarm, with air tankers and additional resources summoned, the Angeles National Forest reported.
Evacuation orders were issued for about 10-12 homes on Bouquet Canyon Road from the Bouquet Reservoir Dam, south to mile marker 11.5, and evacuation warnings were issued for residents on Bouquet Canyon Road from mile marker 11.5 to Texas Canyon Ranger Station at 30800 Bouquet Canyon Road.
The evacuations remained in place Tuesday as a precaution. Bouquet Canyon Road was closed from Vasquez Canyon north to the reservoir, and the closure was continuing Tuesday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Firefighters were able to make good progress on the fire since many personnel were close by, fighting the 114,200-acre Bobcat Fire about 20 miles away

A 180 degree thinking on how to fight these fires is needed. The focus needs to be 100% on protecting structures and lives. Beyond that these fires need to be allowed to burn much more frequently. This area will not burn again for possibly a decade or more due to lack of fuel.
Just like COVID-19. Let it run through the population. The weak may die, but robust and healthy will live. There are too many people on this planet.
Especially when they relie on Chinese made test kits !
These fires will not be ended with conventional firefighting. Something new needs to be added in. I am suggesting an army of young fit unemployed supervised by military. Draw lines on the map, sufficiently distanced to allow time to bus in your emergency army, let them clear scrub & brush & be bussed out again safely, before the fire reaches that line, (commandeer all tools not in use). Then follow them up with another army of anyone with experience of felling trees & clear a wide, permanent windbreak. Make it a condition of residency that all able bodied must spend so many hours a year keeping firebreaks clear.
This is all caused by bad land use management. If people love there forest so much then why does no one give one fuck to keep it clean. Trees burn because of all the Vegetation and brush left on the forest floors. If there was proper land clearing getting rid of brush then theses fires don’t burn like this. All the private timber company’s clean the lots of land and the fires don’t harm any of there trees. This is not caused by global warming this just too many people not wanting to do controlled burns and saving the land for the wildlife. Well look where look at it now houses burned forests decimated so where the fuck does the wildlife get live now.spend money on managing the forests and hills. If people put the kind energy they did into the BLM protests into land management this could be surely avoided or not burned like it has.
I used to work on the Angeles NF. A decade’s worth of fire frequency? Try 5 years... that invasive grass crop will ready to burn again in 3 years; chamise will be ready to burn in 5.

The notes make mention of the Bobcat fire nearby. Probably some were diverted to this fire.
SkydiverClassC non-agency helicopters are probably on Call-When-Needed (CWN) contracts.
If not CWN or local government owned (LAC or LFD) rotary wing then they are fire season contracted helicopters to US Forest Service.
