- In this video I give a quick overview of the sound of the Earthworks Icon Pro microphone and compare it to other broadcast style microphones.
The Icon Pro is a clean and technical mic that is easy to use, but can sometime come across as harsh. It is nearly perfectly flat and dry, and brings out both the best and worst of any voice. It is more forgiving of a slightly further placement, however.
Throughout the video I use no post processing. I am recording into Adobe Audition using the Rode Rodecaster Pro II audio interface. The AT2040 is a rather cheap microphone, but the Icon sounds infinitely better. It also sounds better than the Dynacaster and the Lauten Audio to my ears.
I think its tighter and cleaner than the dynacaster, but it might be a tossup with the Lauten. The Icon can be super harsh.
