Goulet once said in an interview that he could have been the first 100 goal man in a season after his experience playing with gretzky. He said the amount of high quality scoring chances was insane. Quite a compliment from a great scorer.

I remember Goulet saying the same thing. He prefaced it by stating it was no criticism of the Stasnys or any other Nordiques players. He (Goulet) merely said, in gratitude, that his brief time playing wing centered by Gretzky gave him SO MANY unbelievable goal-scoring chances.
      Goulet. Class player. Class person.

The Nordiques had a superbly talented offensive team in the early to mid 80's. The thing that probably held them back was they didn't have that stud, elite Goalie to take them over the top. The Adams Division they played in was an absolute meat grinder. The Nords had to contend with the Canadiens & Bruins ruling the Adams almost every year, with the Sabres & Whalers also being very competitive too. Tough break. Farthest they got was '85, losing the Flyers in the Conference Finals. Not like that were going to topple the Oilers, though anyway. So, yeah. Good team caught in an era where other elite teams just had the edge in better Goaltending & Defense. Few years later, momentum runs out, age catches up.

Bouchard was a top notch goalie (although he melted down in the Good Friday Massacre, couldn't catch anything after the brawls). What they lacked was an elite level defenseman. Horrible trades did the team in.

    thank you for this
Michel , and the two younger Stastny brothers where quite a site. my father and me share a season ticket back then what a fun time. and after during the 5 hell years,we still had fun. we were betting by how much we were going to loose tonight, and the Colise was full every night , even the year we only won 12 games we were holding the Fort.
the people in Quebec just love Hockey.
bring the Hlinka Gretzky cup to Quebec and you will see the new Colise full for all the games not only for the Canadian team

Please consider making one for Peter Stastny, if you've done it already it's not showing up.

I had heard a rumour that in his last season he was actually traded to St.Louis at the deadline but the teams didnt register the trade in time and it never happened

Goulet's center was Dale Hunter, not P. Stastny. Quebec's downfall started when Hunter was traded.

And their usual right winger was Real Cloutier(until '84). A pretty impressive 2nd line.

Just one correction. Lindros didn't go to Qc because of Marcel Aubut, former GM and, after that, leader of the Canadian Olympic organization.
He went down with the MeToo movement. Apparently, something happened between him and Lindros mom.
Edit: He's also the guy who sold the team...

Didnt the Hawks go to the cup finals when he was on the team?

    • @Lawomenshoops
      @Lawomenshoops 4 роки тому +2

Yes, the 91-92 season, when something that has never been done, almost happened. A NBA and NHL teams from the same city winning a championship in the same year. Bulls won in 92 and the Blackhawks went to the Finals. Then two years later, it almost happened for NY- Rangers won but the Knicks lost in 7 games.

@@Lawomenshoops And in 2003, this almost happened to New Jersey teams, as the Devils defeated the Ducks in the Stanley Cup Finals and the Nets lost to the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

The Buffalo Sabres need an Elite forward to elevate Eichel. Despite your clear bias for Vancouver, I believe Brock Boeser is the most accessible one. Do you think this deal could be done? What would the asking cost be from the Sabres? - Cronk

The value of the American dollar vs the Canadian one. When Atlanta moved to Winnipeg the two currencies were evenly valued iirc. If only the Centre Videotron had been around in 2010 maybe the Coyotes or Panthers could have relocated to Quebec City.

I do believe that Canada deserves a new hockey team. In this era of hockey to see so many new American hockey teams and not have a Canadian team is wrong. To think Houston as a hockey town is absurd I cannot see the team there being as good with fans as Dallas do not get me wrong as Houston also would bring in people from Louisiana also but hockey is not a hot bed in this area and it would take many years to bring it to where kids would get involved think how many skating rinks are there for kids.. It is only right with so many new teams in America to bring in another Canadian city...
