  • French-Algerian journalist, Nabila Ramdani, and author of Fixing France: How to Repair a Broken Republic told Sky News that the vote share for the National Rally in the first round of France's parliamentary election was highly significant, but not definitive. Seat share in the 577-seats at the National Assembly is what ultimately counts, and we’ll know about that in the second round.
Turnout was incredibly high, almost 70% and the percentage of votes the National Rally got represents about 12 Million which is an incredibly high number. They are used to getting around 4 Million at parliamentary elections, so that’s the tripling of their vote in a short period of time.
De facto party leader Jordan Bardella and the real party leader Marine Le Pen are already talking as if they are in power and will be usurping Macron’s presidential powers if they come to office in just over a week’s time. There’s many a slip between cup and lip, however, and plenty of opponents of this party are now making plans to block them in the second round.
