If Hillary Clinton was asked if Donald Trump was the rightful winner of a free and fair election in 2016, she would say absolutely not. She has repeatedly called him an illegitimate president and that he lost that election due to conspiracy theories about Russian collusion. Why doesn't Ezra talk about that?
I think it was important for Ezra to break down many of the issues in the debate and respond to them factually and in my opinion objectively. I think the result of Ezra’s analysis is that Vance was being incredibly disingenuous. The reason this is so important is because Vance was very skilled in his debate delivery and in real time his answers seemed plausible. However, upon dissection, he was either dodging or flat out lying. It is extremely important for journalists to do the work of exposing this. Most people don’t have the time or resources to follow up on every politician’s comments. Kudos Ezra!
But Ezra didn't call out a single lie coming out of Walz's mouth, so what does that say about how serious Ezra is about "disecting" what was true or false during this debate? This is just propaganda. This is very akin to the way the ABC moderators only fact-checked Trump, giving a false impression that the lies upon lies Kamala's gave voice to were true.
I agree get Walz out there not to hone his skills but to allow more people to get to know someone with authentic concern and experience in governing. Also, unfortunately, this presentation promotes Vance and Trump. I don't see Tim Waltz name mentioned in the Podcast description whereas JD Vance is there and so is a picture of Donald Trump.
Vance tried to revise history on stage during the debate by his comments on Obamacare, January 6 and immigration. Walz came off as a guy who knows the substance of his stands and explained it during the debate.
There was another big point that Walz brought up. The fact that Vance was there instead of Pence. That was related to Trump's loosing the last election. But telling lies smoothly does not necessarily make him a winner of the debate, especially when his credibility is ruined because he avoided an obvious and simple question.
I support having paid paternity leave but I think the emphasis should be on paid extended teleworking leave for those he have those type of jobs. Maybe it can be a situation where certain jobs are required to give paternity leave while other jobs are required to do paid parental teleworking leave or some combo of the two

Yup. Honestly, I'd vote for either of them. Both of them probably have better judgement and character than their pres candidates. Kamala is a complete dpsht and Trump is losing it. I love Walz. I watched the whole debate or rather i listen to it, because let's face it: Who has time to actually sit and watch a debate these days? And I seriously cannot recall a single question Asked by either walzs or the moderator that JD Vance directly answered. Not one.

I think it checks out. There are records that Vance used to have a lot of liberal friends in college and was much more accepting of others, didn't care much about immigrants, questioned whether he was gay. There was even a moment in the debate where it seemed like he was about to make a talking point out of "homogeny" when talking about immigrants and stopped himself.

I just started listening to Ezra's podcasts, because a liberal friend of mine said he has been and is one of the best opinion writers of The NY Times. The vast majority of the comments of most podcasts is decidedly negative as is this one. So, most people who listen to a known liberal podcast are liberals as the conservative podcasts are followed by conservatives. This majority criticism of Ezra' podcasts tells me he is not very good at putting forth the liberal philosophy and I have to agree. I'll have to go elsewhere for more coherent and convincing positions from the liberal perspective.

I really tried to have an open mind before listening this podcast, but you can tell it's going to be one-sided the first 30 seconds into it. The "lies" rather than opinions or point-of-view statements is why I gave up on the NYTs and main stream media.
Point-of-view is different from a 'lie.' For example, if a person actually said something in the past that has been recorded to show that he said it, and that same person says that he never said it, that's a lie. A 'point-of-view' is when, for example, you have a policy and people see that policy differently, that is a 'point-of-view.'
I think a lot of people have no idea what a debate is. I’m not sure how you think Vance won if he lied, and dodged questions and looked ridiculous when he refused to answer the question did Trump lose the 2020election.

I'm not sure I'm on solid ground here, but my understanding is the vice. president doesn't certify the vote. Each state certifies the vote, which is why the effort to reconstitute the state election officials is so troubling. It's true that the vice president could refuse to complete his ceremonial obligations, which would cause a mess, but I just wanted to clarify that.
The 12th Amendment is one of the only places where the VP is relevant. They certify the election by counting how many electors each state is giving to the electoral college. The states count the votes and present it to the VP, who then certifies it to the Senate
Each state certifies the electors, the electors vote, congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes. The Vice President, as President of the Senate, presides over the count and announces the results of the Electoral College vote.
The vice president’s duty in re certifying the votes is purely ceremonial. The role was created when communication was poor. It was just a public recitation of what the states had already decided. Vance spends 14 seconds stating that increased immigration to an area could drive up demand for housing, then spends 30 seconds stating that we need to build more housing. In your response in which you explain, passionately and convincingly, that more housing construction is needed, you seem not to notice that he agrees with you (and me)? (I do think his trying to tie any VP of the USA to the regs which prohibit housing construction is a little dumb, since they are all local regs. Possibly some remedy could be pushed at the state level, but I fail to see how the federal govt has anything to do with it...)
Part of the reason why home building isn’t progressing in California….big insurance companies like State Farm for example are no longer writing home policies. Those that are have raised premiums beyond average Americans ability to afford them. Builders won’t build what they cannot sell.

I’m glad Ezra brought up climate change but I’m unhappy about his continuing narrow understanding of the true predicaments we face and continue to ignore. Climate change is a canary, a symptom, pointing to deeper more systemic predicaments. We are in environmental overshoot, and we depend upon an economy that externalizes the damages it causes and under the fallacy that neverending growth is even scientifically possible. Please do your research and then interview some systems scientists and environmental economists. Think more deeply and broadly, and present information that politicians and mainstream media will never cover until our country and world enter emergency mode.

I watched the whole debate or rather i listen to it, because let's face it: Who has time to actually sit and watch a debate these days? And I seriously cannot recall a single question Asked by either walzs or the moderator that JD Vance directly answered. Not one.

I think it checks out. There are records that Vance used to have a lot of liberal friends in college and was much more accepting of others, didn't care much about immigrants, questioned whether he was gay. There was even a moment in the debate where it seemed like he was about to make a talking point out of "homogeny" when talking about immigrants and stopped himself.

I just started listening to Ezra's podcasts, because a liberal friend of mine said he has been and is one of the best opinion writers of The NY Times. The vast majority of the comments of most podcasts is decidedly negative as is this one. So, most people who listen to a known liberal podcast are liberals as the conservative podcasts are followed by conservatives.
This majority criticism of Ezra' podcasts tells me he is not very good at putting forth the liberal philosophy and I have to agree. I'll have to go elsewhere for more coherent and convincing positions from the liberal perspective.
To be fair, I’ve read & listened to Ezra for years & he used to be much better. Idk if it’s election brain-rot, the NYT being in full propaganda mode, or the click-driven media landscape promoting partisan pandering. It doesn’t fit Ezra well, since it’s impossible to give honest intellectual inquiry while spinning a party’s narrative.

I really tried to have an open mind before listening this podcast, but you can tell it's going to be one-sided the first 30 seconds into it. The "lies" rather than opinions or point-of-view statements is why I gave up on the NYTs and main stream media.
Point-of-view is different from a 'lie.' For example, if a person actually said something in the past that has been recorded to show that he said it, and that same person says that he never said it, that's a lie. A 'point-of-view' is when, for example, you have a policy and people see that policy differently, that is a 'point-of-view.'

I'm not sure I'm on solid ground here, but my understanding is the vice. president doesn't certify the vote. Each state certifies the vote, which is why the effort to reconstitute the state election officials is so troubling. It's true that the vice president could refuse to complete his ceremonial obligations, which would cause a mess, but I just wanted to clarify that.
The 12th Amendment is one of the only places where the VP is relevant. They certify the election by counting how many electors each state is giving to the electoral college. The states count the votes and present it to the VP, who then certifies it to the Senate
Each state certifies the electors, the electors vote, congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes. The Vice President, as President of the Senate, presides over the count and announces the results of the Electoral College vote.
The vice president’s duty in re certifying the votes is purely ceremonial. The role was created when communication was poor. It was just a public recitation of what the states had already decided. The VP has no authority to change or block what the states decided. Please listen to Judge Michael Luttig on this.

Vance spends 14 seconds stating that increased immigration to an area could drive up demand for housing, then spends 30 seconds stating that we need to build more housing. In your response in which you explain, passionately and convincingly, that more housing construction is needed, you seem not to notice that he agrees with you (and me)?
(I do think his trying to tie any VP of the USA to the regs which prohibit housing construction is a little dumb, since they are all local regs. Possibly some remedy could be pushed at the state level, but I fail to see how the federal govt has anything to do with it...)

I’m glad Ezra brought up climate change but I’m unhappy about his continuing narrow understanding of the true predicaments we face and continue to ignore. Climate change is a canary, a symptom, pointing to deeper more systemic predicaments. We are in environmental overshoot, and we depend upon an economy that externalizes the damages it causes and under the fallacy that neverending growth is even scientifically possible.
Please do your research and then interview some systems scientists and environmental economists. Think more deeply and broadly, and present information that politicians and mainstream media will never cover until our country and world enter emergency mode.
