Paul, I feel what you're saying about the kids. My son moved out several years ago (now a Police Officer) and I still can't convert his room into something else... Brutal.
Leave his room, gotta be awesome for him to come home and visit...wish I could do that....I was going to buy our old home we grew up in and give it to my mother to live in, but she didn't want it....oh well
I have a simple solution that I firmly believe is the best of both worlds. Dedicate all your money to a two channel system, and use that for your home theater. I tried for years to make a home theater system sound good for music and home theater. Thousands of dollars later and dozens and dozens of speakers, amplifiers, room treatment, subwoofers, I have never been able to be truly satisfied with my system as a whole. I gave up and switched my entire system to two channel and wow! It looks so much better for starters. Nice clean and elegant looking. Once I dedicated that money to fantastic speakers and a sub and drove everything with nice power amps and Pre-amps, the home theater sound is superior from my 2 speakers in many ways. Yes you lose the surround channels, but you gain better imaging from your mains, much better mid range transparency and clarity, for the first time I am truly happy with my bass. I was playing a game on an xbox and I could literally hear a guy (in the game) hammering a board behind me. As I passed other characters in the game, I could hear them going past me, astonishing 3d sound. I have a few select tracks I play for people that say it sounds like the performer is in the room. Don't have to worry about wires everywhere, difficult sub-woofer placement. Music is literally 2 times better sounding. I'll never go back to a home theater system again because the cost of getting a really nice 2 channel sound with a high end home theater sound is way too far out of my price range. Look at pre-amps for example, A high end HT pre amp will literally cost a minimum of 6 times more than I paid for my brand new 2 channel pre amp which had digital ins and outs, HDMI, a decent quality built in DAC. Then you need amplifiers, unless you go with a monster receiver. Then the speakers (which any compromise will compromise your sound), then the all important sub-woofer which is harder to place with all those speakers everywhere and proper LFE bass require cabinet size unless you have money. The cables, the wires and wire management, The all important placement of speakers becomes much more difficult, more stuff to dust and clean. If you want it all looking good, you have to drill holes in you floors and walls, but so much wire. It's just a huge pain in the ass.
I've got rid off my home theater system more than 10 y. ago . I was so stupid too, believing more cables , more speakers it is better . It is just more headache for sure , I couldn't even watch a single movie . Now, with my HiFi 2-channel stereo I never get a headache after watching even 3 movies nonstop with any high loud volume . And the sound it is just so clear , pure bass , amazing clarity . For sure I prefer watching movies in my home , than any best movie theater !
Hung Lo, my experience almost to a T. I find movie sound about 90% of an HT setup without the hassle of amps, wires, speakers and the electronics in the way of enjoying both. Cheers!
There's a lot to be said for your simplicity. I found, when I was listening to movies in 2 channel, the Dolby encoding often resulted in sounds apparently out of the stereo arc, sometimes way off to the sides. My main speakers are dipoles (Martin Logan CLS) so that may have something to do with it.
May I ask - are you still as happy with your setup? I really think I may go in that direction. Would you mind telling your equipment - speakers and amp and all? Thanks in advance and would love to know if there is anything you would change or do different, or are you still satisfied? I really do not think I will miss the extra speakers and such. Thanks!
The best way is to use the preamp output of the home theater receiver and connect it to the stereo system And always use your stereo as a power amp for the home theater system So you don‘t need a y-connector and you don‘t need a switchbox for the speakers Just my way of doing it, since my receiver has pre outs and my amp has a power amp direct input No hassle, just pressing a button on my stereo amp 😉
I do something similar. 1. use preamp out from the stereo receiver 2. Too a passive preamp with 3 inputs A. One from receiver B. One from oppo C. One from TT 3. From passive preamp to two (or one) poweramps. Bonus: 4. Connect the receiver to a master slave power strip (Google). The nice thing is that my wife do only need to power up the receiver and use it just that. And not bother of anything else. All that I need to do is to make sure that I put the input to receiver and full volume on the passive power amp. After my 2ch listening session with the 2 other sources. No Y connector and just a input selector and a volume pot. But if your preamp remember or holds the volume and input selection, then you could do the same.
I used a integrated amp run connected to my preamp out of my receiver then i had the cd player connected to the integrated amp. Great sound and easy to work
This is easy. Connect the blu ray to the high end 2 channel preamp with an analog cable, and to the surround receiver with HDMI. Take the front left and right preamp outputs of The surround receiver and connect them to a line input on the 2 channel preamp. Drive the front speakers with the Threshold amps all the time. The only thing you will need to do, is set the volume of the 2 channel preamp to some predetermined volume when you want to use the surround system, so it matches the other channels.
The Audiophile way of doing it is using a pre-pro (pre-amp/processor) from brands such as Outlaw, Marantz, Denon etc.... take it's pre-outs and hook up separate amplifiers for each channel. By doing it this way, you can daisy chain DACS, DSP, EQ or what have you in between your processor and amplifiers. This is how I do it and it works out great.
The reason I watched this video is that I’m considering moving out and would likely have to fit movies and music all in one room. But my parents want me to stay, and after hearing how sad it made you when your son moved out I’m reconsidering 😊
I'm watching this in June 2022. BTW, lotion technology has improved a lot since 2018. Wait ... what were we talking about? Oh yeah, about your video presentations. In short, you are awesome. You come across as spinning yarns in a pub with buddies while educating at the same time. You are never pompous or pretentious, and able to explain complicated topics in plain English. A buddy once told me that is a sign of someone who really knows their stuff. Normally I don't put comments like this in but when the ""wait, what were we talking about?" part came up I had to pause the video because I broke out laughing. The topic was irrelevant at that point. Keep educating the masses and don't ever change.
Get an older receiver from early 90's 5.1 and it will switch to stereo, mono or surround, all one unit I had one gone through by local electronic's shop.It sounds great.
The best way to combine both is exactly that! Use a centre speaker/surrounds with your 2 channel set up.. I have 1 meter of speaker cable (easy access) wired to my front speaker binding posts with female banana sockets on the end. All i do is change over from my receiver cables to my stereo power amp cables. Receiver cables 7.1 power amp cables 2.0 works fine!
Oh, great burning question for me as well. Of course, all situations are different, mine is no exception. I have been running high-end AVRs for the last 15 years or so (yes, there is such a thing) and using them for both HT and 2-channel. I am a 2-channel guy at heart all the way, but also the occasional movie watcher. I do not have dedicated rooms, etc. I must say though that I have learned something and that is if you want great 2-channel sound, don't use an AVR of any stripe. Even the best, most costly just doesn't deliver. The best 2-channel sound I can get with the AVR set to Stereo, Direct or Pure is OK at best. Definitely listenable (my speakers have something to do with it as they are very revealing and the best I have heard to date), but still not the same level as my vintage based system which gives me real 3D imaging. Because I live in an apartment and my desire for 2-channel out-weighs HT by a factor of 10 at least, I decided almost 3 years ago to start saving up for as good a 2-channel set up as I can get with a given budget and ditch the HT all together. I do not run a sub woofer since I am in an apartment and with my main speakers I find I really don't need one. I don't have to have vibrating floors especially for music. I may miss the surround effects, but something has to give. So in about two weeks time the change to 2-channel, very nice 2-channel will take place. I decided that in order to have good 2-channel I will just have to run the audio out of my DVD player to the pre and live with 2-channel for movies as well. I have plenty of concert DVDs which is best in 2-channel I feel, but movies, that is where the compromise will be. I do not have room for both a 2-channel in separates (can't believe I am finally getting separates) and an AVR. Perhaps someday someone will come out with a box that will accept HDMI and process surround that can be attached to a 2-channel setup?
I am using a Sunfire preamp/processor for both music and home theater. Front speakers are multi-amped with active crossovers (XLRs throughout!) , and the remaining 7 speakers have passive crossovers with one power amp per pair. For music, I am just switching to "stereo"- or "source direct" for analog sources- and I am quite happy this way.
Three words: Home Theater Bypass If your preamp has one, simply run RCA cables from the front channel's single ended preamp outputs from your AVR to the RCA inputs designated for Home Theater Bypass on your PS Audio preamp. Step Two: Using an HDMI cable, connect the Oppo player's HDMI output to your AVR's HDMI input that's designated for the blue ray disk player. Now connect the AVR to your TV by using an HDMI from the AVR's designated HDMI output to the HDMI input on the TV that you have designated for movie watching. Congratulations! Unless you're connecting your DVR to the TV through the AVR so you can enjoy multichannel audio for general TV watching, all the interconnect/digital cables to your surround unit is complete. Now, using a pair of xlr cables, connect the Oppo player's analog balanced output to the balanced inputs of your PS Audio preamp you have designated for disc/DAC playback. You can now connect your PS Audio Preamp's balanced stereo outs to your monoblock's amplifier's inputs via a pair of balanced xlr cables. At this point, make sure your center and surround speakers are connected to their appropriate speaker output connectors on the back of your AVR. With all that done, you now can turn on your preamp, amps and AVR and run your AVR's room correction software. The room correction will only affect multichannel audio as you have wired your stereo system to operate independently from the AVR when listening to stereo sources. If you get no sound out of your front speakers, your AVR may require you manually set up the front channels to output through the AVR preamp outs. When running room correction, don't be surprised if your front speakers require output level adjustment. This could be simply due to the differwnce in gain between your monoblocks and the AVR's internal amps. Once room correction on the AVR is finished, you're done! Now you can listen to stereo sources without turning on the AVR. When you want to watch a movie, just turn on the AVR, preamp and monoblocks, select Home Theater Bypass on your preamp, select the BDP input on your AVR, pop in a disc and you're in business. Keep in mind that when watching movies, the volume is controlled by the AVR and not your preamp's volume control unless you take the preamp out of its HT Bypass mode. It's done for your convenience so you can set the preamp's remote aside when watching movies. The above is exactly how my system was wired before I added external amps for center and surround channels. It's pretty slick and you don't have to resort to using crappy y-cables and switch boxes since you're taking advantage of the built-in switching features in your preamp and AVR. It also eliminates sound quality compromises due to additional cable connections and reduces dreaded cable clutter to a minimum which greatly adds to the critically important WAF. Best of luck!
HT Bypass is definitely the way to go. Enabled me to have my home theater pre/pro and 5-channel poweramp completely powered off when doing 2-channel listening. In this case, the home theater pre/pro (or HT receiver) is just another source that's connected to a dedicated 2-channel peramp or integrated amp; however, the "HT Bypass" inputs have a special property...they bypass attenuation since volume level for this source will be handled upstream. This is definitely the most elegant way to marry dedicated 2-channel and home theater electronics. For examples, download the manuals for the Emotiva XSP-1 analog preamp and XMC-1 HT pre/pro. Parasound, Wyred 4 Sound, PS Audio (of course) and many others have similar solutions. The HT Bypass feature just needs to exist on the 2-channel preamp or integrated amp.
David Snyder I will have to check that out on my Marantz but so far I like the Marantz for surround sound and the Emotiva pre for 2.0 . Right now I manually switch the speaker wires depending if I am watching movies or listening to music.
@@dsnyder0cnnyou can also use AVR Pre-outs if you only have an 2-ch amp and not yet 2-ch Pre e.g. you are still building your 2-channel system. Your 2-ch amp will leverage AVR Pre to drive L/R channel and AVR will drive the center and surrounds as you enhance your HT and 2-ch in parallel. And when you buy 2-ch Pre, you buy one with HT bypass input
When I connected my plasma TV to AVR with HDMI, I also had to send audio from TV back to AVR (Pioneer VSX-1325K) via digital optical cable, otherwise no sound.
Oh man, I got 4 boys of my own, so I know the craziness part. Two years before the oldest moves out, another 13 for the youngest to moves out, cannot imagine.
I use a Parasound P7 and an Outlaw pre/proc. Perfect. Parasound also makes 2 channel preamps with "theater bypass" modes so you can use a full blown multichannel receiver for your surround speakers and your high end system for the front speakers. I guess since PS Audio doesn't make either of those Paul has to stall and change the subject, and in the end recommend a kludgey solution. PS Audio should consider making a preamp as multi-use friendly (home theater and high end two channel music) as Parasound.
I got a musical fidelity with a A-B input on my amplifier for the main speakers so when I want to listen to music I just change input. You can also do it off a HT bypass button of your pre.
I know you said not to say anything, but if you hate the smell of lotion, you need to use good unscented stuff (curel fragrance free) and apply it while you're still wet out of the shower if you don't like the feel then pat dry. It's relatively expensive($7-8 a bottle), but it works.
@@scorpnz4433 I mean, its just dry skin not psoriasis. I guess there _could_ be causes other than age and weather, but I don't think armchair diagnoses are appropriate xD
Also, harsh soap could also make it worse. Anything other than very mild soap like dove sensitive skin will be drying. I have very sensitive skin so I've tried pretty much everything xD
G'day Paul. Please don't apologise for the ramble. It's always a high point for me. After an hiatus from my stereo, I'm starting to listen again. I start with CDs and soon I'll buy a long cable for the streamer to the Modular Electronics preamp (ME25, iirc).
Planning a new family room and merging the 2 channel there. Receiver powering an Atmos set up (5.2.4) all in wall. Using two REL subs connected with the LFE inputs. For 2 channel, Separate preamp and mono blocks powering tower speakers. Connecting to the same two REL subs using high level inputs. Only the subs are shared but I can still maintain separate systems with minimal space usage.
I currently have both a vintage audio system. (70s). And a Home Theater system. When I bought my wide screen TV and Blu-ray player, I had intended to connect the audio through the vintage system, and things did not go well. The connection caused a horrible "ground loop" hum and was unlistenable. I tried ALL of the normal solutions of reversing ac plugs in the audio system and also created a common power ground net for both the TV and Audio system. While this reduced the hum considerably, it was still audible. I gave up and bought an AV-receiver for the TV and a Klipsh 5.1 Speaker system for the TV and everything works fine now. Correct... no wife.
Well i have and do believe you can combine a high end audio 2 Channel audio system and a home theater system. The one area that they “typically” vary is in acoustics. High end audio wants a well balanced somewhat live acoustical room were as most home theater systems are designed with a more acoustically damped room to allow more directionality of sounds. But I’ve never been a fan of damped rooms and prefer a more acoustically live room in both applications. So the best way to approach this setup was is to focus on the two channel audio system and get it dialed in and then incorporate the surround system into it. There are additional challenges but can be overcome. It would take to Long time to go into the challenges and solutions but trust me it can be done with no compromise to either system
Best way? Use separate electronics and speakers. If this is not possible, then use a home theater preamp and select "Reference Stereo Mode" for two channel music. Connect it to a good power amp(s) for stereo.
I appreciate your patience with these topics because each response to the same or similar question brings new light to the problem. I wish someone would make a preamp that was great at both 2 channel and home theater but it doesn't seem to exist.
"Most people aren't lucky enough to have both a dedicated home theater and 2-channel audio system." - but yes, they are... Some time ago I've noticed that some 5. 1 movies has some really really great sounding music and I've started to wonder why the same music listened in 2ch is not even close to that? Usually in 5.1 movies the music is heared from the frontal speakers, so the difference is not from the hardware, it must be in some way from the signal... So I've tried a lot of settings, different sound formats, etc etc, but nada... By the way my setup is a PC - > HDMI - > AVR - > large, full range towers as front speakers with a subwoofer for LFE, so basically anything in any format should be supported, but it was not working, why? Finally I realised that the signal is not properly translated by the AVR for 2ch, so I've bought an external stereo DAC and BINGO!!! The AVRs internal DAC is tuned for multichanel, so the external stereo DAC is used for music only and it works like a charm... The only thing beside the external DAC is to put the AVR in the pure direct mode, so its used just as an amp and the DAC does the stereo processing. So now, for music the setup looks like this: PC - > USB - > DAC - > RCA - > AVR - > towers/sub and it's a miracle... So the analog is still the best for music experience :)
Paul I'm telling you, the Aveeno moisturizer is as close to scentless as they come and it's not greasy at all. You can find small sample bottles at popular retailers.
Completely agree. If we have to choose between one or the other, I personally would pick 2 channel every time. When it comes to movies I watch/listen through my 2 channel HiFi system. Same goes for TV., and I am more than happy with that.
I tried it head to head and I feel like my fairly good 2 channel setup sounded far better for movies than my decent surround system. I even tried a 5.1 system using Infinity Qe's to give the Onkyo reciever competent speakers to feed (
Hey Paul, i too love a good story. If you have Netflix streaming watch, if you haven’t yet, The Kominsky Method starring Michael Douglas and Alan Alda. Great performance by all the actors there and great script. 👍🏼 But, i am also a fan of GOT 😁
I ended up going with an Emotive 2.0 set up and a Marantz AVR, i switch the speakers wires depending on which I am using . Speakers work great for both but the Marantz doesnt do 2.0 like the Emotiva stuff does.
I grew up in the 80s during the golden age of stereo. Over the years I have tried multiple surround sound systems and sound bars. Sometimes I was impressed and sometimes underwhelmed but my heart remained loyal to stereo. I'm ready for my return journey to the glory days of stereo. The problem is that all movies and television are optimized for surround 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 etc. and I simply cannot hear the dialogue from a 2 channel stereo system. Many reviews suggest using a center channel speaker with my tower speakers as front L and front R speakers. It makes perfect sense but I don't understand how to hook up 1 center channel speaker to a 2 channel stereo system with 2 tower speakers already utilizing the only stereo speaker outputs. I know it's not rocket science but I'm having a brain fart. In fact, the tower speakers Im considering are also recommended with a center channel speaker for stereo surround sound but no explanation. What am I missing?
My opinion, is to have stereo speakers and surround system independent. We are just doing too much. Suffer with the extra gear. use small gauge wire as a compromise if needed. I would have home theater equipment in the back of the room just as it was at my local high end dealer back in the 90's.
I have 2 different amps cheap sony surround receiver and a nad stereo amp an switch between both doe music and surround b&w cm8 s2 front speakers sound bad on the sony amp low wattage so for music i use the nad
Best way to combine home theater and 2 - channel ? Get rid off the home theater receiver asap . Use your 2 - channel for music and movies . Hollywood is more busy now telling us how to live , what to eat , how to think and vote , instead of making even average movies . Some European countries and Japan still making amazing movies though .
@@jeffhunter4395 What? All you need is this what I am using it ! www.sony.ca/en/electronics/blu-ray-disc-players/ubp-x800 Then connect your 4K player with HDMI cable to a 4K TV panel , and from TV panel use Optic cable to connect with your 2-channel stereo receiver .
I did that for a long time, but in pure or direct mode you only get two channel,no sub, and a sub is nice to have, a 2.1 preamp with home theater bypass is the answer
exactly !! why does everyone want to make it sooo difficult ?? if you have a quality pre/pro and quality LCR run it in stereo and have fun...oh wait, for an "audiophile" having the surround processor in the same room, even though it's not in the signal path would most likely be a cardinal sin......shit sorry :-) y'all know I'm teasin right ?? NOT !!!!
Thank you….I’m out of my depth. I’m a 2 channel caveman. Do you have a visual schematic on your site for this question….I’m even a bit lost on the language, the naming of things. It maybe why my records/tapes/ CDs sound great through the 2 channel integrated but my tv/streaming is swinging in volume way too much. I have a channel switcher. I don’t know why….oh yes, I was going to run some speakers to the hot tub. That’s yet to happen.
In my setup, it's Oppo 203>DAC>Preamp>monos>front speaker AND Oppo 203>AV Receiver>front speaker + surround speakers. Hence I have 2 sets of speaker cables for the front speaker. Just use the right one depending on whether I'm listening to 2-ch or 5.1.4 surround for movies. Hope it helps..
i thought that a surround processor was the best option for high end surround and maybe even high end stereo. surround preamp as i call it sometimes. this way you can use hifi power amps to power the speakers and also give you flexibility in expanding later in surround sound. monoblock all the way in all speakers is my dream at least.
I use the Denon 4700 in 9 channel mode. I have a Krell 300 integrated amp for music. It has an input for an additional processor. What I do is plug the Denon front channel outs to the Krell inputs. Just run both amps plus it makes it easier for the Denon AVR-X4700H since it’s not running it’s front channels to my speakers.
Two channel and home cinema should be kept separate. Getting all the extra speakers to match your high quality two channel speakers and amp is impossible. I gave up after many years of trying. Fortunately home cinema is very forgiving with lower quality speakers, placement, cables and amps. Stereo is not! Small matching speakers and a sub can sound fantastic. Remember you have 11 of them. Easy placement and sound processing means you can make them disappear. Use a projector for the picture, sorry size does matter but when you want to listen just to the hifi you can make the screen disappear by rolling it up and the space between the speakers is now empty. I'm not saying that it's cheep but for the same cost of a power conditioner you can get a very impressive home cinema that takes up little space and won't interfere with the hifi
It never ceases to amaze me - that people tell me I drift "off-subject" very easily - and WAFFLE ON about unrelated crap - yet here you do the exact same thing. Even at 2:04 you cannot get back ON subject. I thought this was going to be mostly about intermixing two weird concepts. a simulated hpme theatre system and a basic 2ch audio system. Nothing at all difficult there, if the "correct" decoder system is used, that replicates the live sounds one has, that were originally recorded with (a basic) 2 microphones - that replay the recorded sounds via 2ch amps. Your teenage boys leaving home is utterly irrelevant (and should have been edited out long before you uploaded this) ? Also the whether or not that the weather has anything to do with audio intermixing and thus stays here (in the annoying interlude between subject title and subject talk) Anyways - I hope you don't waffle off subject again - as this should have been a hoot - hearing your ideas on that "audio" mixture - when I would have simply stated - make your audio listening environment with as many "all-around" surround sound channels as possible, then you can swap between audio and visual audio at any time with zero ill effect. Having a TV Playing visual cues, should NEVER detract from the number of audible channels one hears (just) audio out of.
Buggah - 5:30 another waffle into "Game Of Thrones" - are you for real - that has ZERO to do with "switching" / intermixing" speakers from two amps.. (why two amps -hell who knows as one is sufficient for both signal inputs. All he needs is a basic ON/Off that turns the rear/Surrounds OFF (or on) and leaves the front two connected at all times. Bingo - 2chs for one listening period and all speakers for another. No pissing around with countless episodes of jaw wiggling about teenage boys, or Game of Thrones or any other useless unrelated crap.
Thanks, there were a few questions answered I have wondered about for some time... and.... Like you, I am just over all of the violent stupid movies... and crave real stories... As to the question asked... not that I have all the sweet kit y'all have... but I found the best way to have both in the same room/same system was to just not care about the movie side very much. Helping that a ton is I have gotten the stereo music side so good I rarely turn on my TV anymore...
Paul, you are confused.... The Post is not a movie, it's a soap opera for chicks and grandpas. Movies today is like gladiator theater in Roman period. Gore!!!! Blood!!!! Explosion!!!! That's where home theater is needed. Soap opera? Two Channel high end true hifi system will do better than 10.2 channel surround.

Great video again. That was just "Leaf" when you refer to "smoking pot" in the 70's. If you had a joint by today's standard's, you would be done in for two days minimum. So it was leaf pot then. I had those 1/4 once bags in the early 80's and you could blow 3 "fat ones" in a row and still ride your motorcycle home.
I've got to go and rethink this. Paul says he's all this and that in the day, but he is sharp and moves around fast and doesn't have that "haay maan" speech. @@meutubedou It's a scientifically proven fact that today's Marijuana is much more powerful then the stuff we smoked back in the day. But never mind that. The good stuff was almost impossible to find here in New England back then. Now I can just drive up the road a ways, and choose from a menu of some of the highest THC content weed that's ever graced this planet. Back in the day. We mostly got crappy weed. Sticks, and seeds. And I remember smoking a quarter a day, at the minimum, when I used to sell it, and I vividly remember hearing the complaints about it. But you got what you got, and many times, you couldn't get anything at all. Now an 1/8 lasts me two weeks. I smoke, and I'm fine for hours. Back then you smoked, and had to smoke again within the hour. Even those strains you mentioned have a higher THC content now, then they did back then. Things improve with time, in most cases. So while you may have been lucky enough to have had access to great strains back in the day. You, and your circle were a tiny percentage of the population. I had amazing connections back in the day, and only got stuff like this occasionally. I could get the best cocaine any time I wanted in the 80's, but I didn't want it. Same for heroin, well before it was popular. Again, not that I wanted it. Pills of all sorts, etc. That was all everywhere. Good weed, not so much. So it's really disingenuous of you to act like this guy's crazy. He's spot on. You're the one with the unique experiences, not him. His experiences are what was the real normal back then. We were driving around, and I'm doing my usual thing. Which is to say hi to everyone I know in town, and that's so many people, that she said "what are you? The fucking mayor?". So I'm far from some guy who spent his life sitting home, and playing video games. Consider yourself lucky, but don't go putting others down for spurting out their experiences. No one's mistaken. Just had different connections then you. We are talking about an illegal substance after all. It's not like he was just shopping at the wrong mall! 🙄

ya, well, these days, nobody's leaving home with 4 minimum wage jobs and still another grand to come up with for a 1 bedroom apartment's rent. never mind audio equipment. Sure, laugh at me and mock me. It's only a matter of time before your income level gets decimated.
@@VILL4IN Cool man. Wasn't sure what you meant. Thanks for the reply. I think Paul is great too. I guess he is white AF, but in an awesome, genuine, old fashioned way. And this video was especially good IMO. Happy Holidays!
@@ryanray6215 The first rule of HT is that nothing can replace HT.
Thanks!
i came for sound advice and stayed for the cool dude getting sidetracked about life. i love him
i love the rambling about kids, makes alot of sense
The best way is to use the preamp output of the home theater receiver and connect it to the stereo system
And always use your stereo as a power amp for the home theater system
So you don‘t need a y-connector and you don‘t need a switchbox for the speakers
Just my way of doing it, since my receiver has pre outs and my amp has a power amp direct input
No hassle, just pressing a button on my stereo amp 😉
That should work well.
I do something similar.
1. use preamp out from the stereo receiver
2. Too a passive preamp with 3 inputs
A. One from receiver
B. One from oppo
C. One from TT
3. From passive preamp to two (or one) poweramps.
Bonus:
I use the same setup, surround receiver as pre-amp for the Hifi amp while watching movies and just the Hifi amp for stereo music . Works great.
I used a integrated amp run connected to my preamp out of my receiver then i had the cd player connected to the integrated amp. Great sound and easy to work
Exactly. Benchmark even includes a "Home Theater mode" on their DAC/Preamps that sets the volume to unity gain for just this application.
Emotiva is also good for that? It's $700 for the MC-700
Edit: I see Outlaw also have lower priced models
@@krhagene I have the Outlaw Model 975 with three Yamaha Pro-Audio P3500S's. Soon to upgrade to the 976 next year...

Besides it being 30 years old, it would have a 90's DAC
The best way to combine both is exactly that! Use a centre speaker/surrounds with your 2 channel set up.. I have 1 meter of speaker cable (easy access) wired to my front speaker binding posts with female banana sockets on the end. All i do is change over from my receiver cables to my stereo power amp cables. Receiver cables 7.1 power amp cables 2.0 works fine!
This video is hilarious. Good info, and I loved the old-man rambling. ;-)

Now I don't wanna move out anymore cause I feel bad for my parents, thanks xD
I agree. The movie The Post is excellent. I was surprised a story like that could be so compelling.
Three words: Home Theater Bypass
If your preamp has one, simply run RCA cables from the front channel's single ended preamp outputs from your AVR to the RCA inputs designated for Home Theater Bypass on your PS Audio preamp.

And just buy a Parasound JC2 BP and you got a really good set up.
Better to find the cause than treat the symptom
@@scorpnz4433 I mean, its just dry skin not psoriasis. I guess there _could_ be causes other than age and weather, but I don't think armchair diagnoses are appropriate xD
Also, harsh soap could also make it worse. Anything other than very mild soap like dove sensitive skin will be drying. I have very sensitive skin so I've tried pretty much everything xD
If the cause is allergies, then its an individual thing, really. But enough "armchair" nonsense xD
It would take to
Long time to go into the challenges and solutions but trust me it can be done with no compromise to either system
Best way? Use separate electronics and speakers. If this is not possible, then use a home theater preamp and select "Reference Stereo Mode" for two channel music. Connect it to a good power amp(s) for stereo.
You forgot to mention the HT bypass on PS audio preamp that can be connected to pre out it receiver
As someone who sees what happens to power amps I'd say he dodged a bullet with the speaker switch, preventing all untold carnage.
Paul you guys should build a high quality switch box to address this challenge
I appreciate your patience with these topics because each response to the same or similar question brings new light to the problem. I wish someone would make a preamp that was great at both 2 channel and home theater but it doesn't seem to exist.

Like always Paul is a pleasure to listen to anything you have to say. Merry Christmas!!!
Loved your story Paul, you are a lucky man....

My experience is, get the best 2channel setup you can afford and call it good.
I even tried a 5.1 system using Infinity Qe's to give the Onkyo reciever competent speakers to feed (
I like a proper set up 2 channel system as well. Listening / watching from the sweet spot

That is what a Home Theater Bypass on stereo preamp is for.
I find my amp switch the best way to seperate both multi channel and 2 channel, this way no chance of impedance mis match and a boom, I sleep better

Best way to combine home theater and 2 - channel ? Get rid off the home theater receiver asap . Use your 2 - channel for music and movies . Use the "pure direct" option in your home theater to listen to music. It outputs two channel + Sub-woofer with no sound processing.
I did that for a long time, but in pure or direct mode you only get two channel,no sub, and a sub is nice to have, a 2.1 preamp with home theater bypass is the answer

The point is that we want high-end audio, of course we could just use the HT receiver if we were satisfied with that
exactly !! why does everyone want to make it sooo difficult ?? if you have a quality pre/pro and quality LCR run it in stereo and have fun...oh wait, for an "audiophile" having the surround processor in the same room, even though it's not in the signal path would most likely be a cardinal sin......shit sorry :-) y'all know I'm teasin right ??
Hope it helps..

i thought that a surround processor was the best option for high end surround and maybe even high end stereo. surround preamp as i call it sometimes.
this way you can use hifi power amps to power the speakers and also give you flexibility in expanding later in surround sound. monoblock all the way in all speakers is my dream at least.
sudd for Movies but it’s a compromise for music with out using a dedicated 2ch Pre-amplifier.
if you double the price for a surround processor could it not be close to a half prices stereo preamp?
sudd doesn’t really work that way.
a good solution....integrated amp for 2 channel stereo with a home theater (by pass) output....
I thought Paul would be really into Game of Thrones.
Also the whether or not that the weather has anything to do with audio intermixing and thus stays here (in the annoying interlude between subject title and subject talk)
Anyways - I hope you don't waffle off subject again - as this should have been a hoot - hearing your ideas on that "audio" mixture - when I would have simply stated - make your audio listening environment with as many "all-around" surround sound channels as possible, then you can swap between audio and visual audio at any time with zero ill effect.
Agree, hate the smell and goo of lotions.

As to the question asked... not that I have all the sweet kit y'all have... but I found the best way to have both in the same room/same system was to just not care about the movie side very much. Helping that a ton is I have gotten the stereo music side so good I rarely turn on my TV anymore...
Threshgrip!!
Rescue a couple dogs!!! Life will pick up
Paul, you are confused....
@ 02:08 ... Don`t like Lotions? Muahaha: it rubs the lotion on its skin! it rubs the lotion on its skin ! Muahahaha.... (Anyone knows where this quote comes from? )
Except a decent mch decent wipes the floor wirh the equivalently priced 2 channel. So no need to feel bad.
Now I know, Paul hates lotion!
Like cheech and that how does Santa Claus fly all around the world in one night Stuff.
I have to get back tomorrow, cause all I see is an ex leaf blower..
At least for basically everyone I've met over my 46 years on this earth, and believe me. I know a lot of people. When I first started dating my girl. 🙄
HH Scott , I didn’t put him down, I was just informing him that not everyone smoked leaf as he said.. I guess you didn’t read what he said.. And scientific proof that it’s more powerful today 😂😂 Hogwash.. Even Heroin is maybe 30% today not 90.. Everything is cut today & filled with garbage & diluted to create more profit.. Makes no difference.. Some of us were luckier than others that’s all.. And I started @ 8 & now 65.. so way before the 80’s.. If you told people who live in Amsterdam that weed is better today than then , they’d laugh at you.. Same for a heroin or coke user.. Both would be rolling on the floor.. Bye Troll..
@@meutubedou Nice try at psychological projection there pal, but the only troll here is you, and you know it. I have proof to back up my words. You have your faulty memory, and nostalgia, which together are about as valuable as a pile of doggy doo doo.

Suck it loser!
Oh, and one more thing. If I had a dollar for every jerk like you, who back in the day, claimed how great the weed was where they used to live. Then took me there, and couldn't follow through. I'd have enough to buy an eighth of good pot at our local legal weed store. I've heard jerks like you bragging, and blowing my whole life. Not one time have I ever seen proof of your type of braggadocio. Just a lot of hot air, and that's it. No one with a brain even believes you smoked that back in the day dude. I was trying to be polite, and not completely call you out, but since you had to go there. Here we go.
You my friend are a BS artist of the highest order, and only a total BS artist like you would ever waste their time with making a BS statement like you did. People that actually had it like that, would normally just keep to themselves, because they wouldn't want to blow and brag like a big jerk. You probably didn't even smoke weed, and just like to hear yourself talk. Do us all a favor, and just STFU, because no one cares anyway asshole!

Ben-Hur is the best movie ever done
Which one? The Charlton Heston classic or the recent remake?
@@galenzellars6971 there's only one to consider, William Wallace masterpiece starring Charlton Heston in the role of his career.
ya, well, these days, nobody's leaving home with 4 minimum wage jobs and still another grand to come up with for a 1 bedroom apartment's rent.
never mind audio equipment.
Sure, laugh at me and mock me. It's only a matter of time before your income level gets decimated.
Paul get a young girlfriend and your life will be exiting again. ;)
Or it'll kill ya.
Buy two systems, problem solved

So?
He's who he is. Does that bother you?
@@amb3cog as a matter of fact it doesn't bother me, in fact it pleases me
@@VILL4IN Cool man. Wasn't sure what you meant. Thanks for the reply. I think Paul is great too. I guess he is white AF, but in an awesome, genuine, old fashioned way. And this video was especially good IMO. Happy Holidays!
i've got a piece of his gear (Dectet Power Center) @@amb3cog . Happy holidays Scott!
