Regarding relaxing the bottom three fingers between shots. In tennis, I was taught to do it for two reasons: 1) to relax the hand to avoid fatigue; 2) to be able to change grips. The proper grip to use depends on what shot you want to hit in a certain situation. I may be pulled out wide to hit a forehand and use an eastern backhand grip to pull the ball back into the court. In other situations, the grip doesn’t change even though I relax my fingers between shots. Relaxing the bottom three fingers between shots in a hands battle is beyond me! 😂
    Great discussion gentlemen!

Another variation of reaching over the net to keep the ball out in front of you is to sit in a chair or bench and hit volleys. It’s easier on the back😅

Look up how to hit a badminton back hand. The grip changes is to rotate your handle clockwise
and your thumb move up and provide 100% of the power and support for counters instead of using your wrist for back hands.

dont put a hand on the backhand side grip for counters, be at the ready position with two hands on already, its faster to pull the paddle back for a back hand counter with two hands on and if you need to move to forehand counter or right hip counter backhand (right handed player) then just let go with your left hand and make the counter.
