The nail files are made for the job. for fine bits of styrene sanding, I got a cheap electric toothbruch and cut the bristles off the attachments and glued on some emery cloth, of varying grits to each attachment. one of the attachments, I glued a piece of styrene about 1/2 an inch square and glued emery cloth to that to make a slightly bigger pad.

Milwaukee?! The best tools are from Harbor Freight, and I WILL FIGHT YOU IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE because it attacks my fragile male ego.

We only use Harbor Freight tools at the job site. If you show up with anything else you’re getting booed and going straight to the back of the line for the daily ice cream social. I’ll make sure there aren't any sprinkles left for you.

My two cents, if you have the STL for the body you can create a buck for the sandpaper. Just trace along the most common edges you need to work on and then give it a block area behind it. Then you can just wrap the sandpaper around the buck after it's in place and use that as the guide. You do need to take into account the thickness of the sandpaper so that you don't change the body too much. But it has worked for me in the past.

My method for sanding, oscilating sander, low grit at first and just nuke it, then high grit same tool. Then finish off with hand tools.

I have been slowly working on a body I 3D printed. Should have tried a higher resolution, but now I know for the next one. I have been really cautious with the power sander because of heat like you said. I picked up a Diablo sanding block kit that uses sanding nets instead of paper from the hardware store last night so I will be curious to see how that works/lasts compared to regular paper.
This is really a sanding hobby, everything else seems secondary. 😁

Haha yes, the main hobby is sanding. Getting to drive little trucks is secondary.

It is, I keep a bucket full of it just for stripping paint. I found it doesn’t work on some chrome so I resort to oven cleaner.
