You know, the level of creativity, skill, and talent required to put something like this together… To plan the shots, film the shots, select the stock, color grade and assemble, lay in the audio … It’s all really phenomenal. What a wonderful "non- marketing" video for the PB12. Just super. Thank you.

I do think it is telling that even a synthesizer as complex and expressive as the PolyBrute is outshined by a simple upright piano. Acoustic instruments are truly magical. I know this isn't what the video is about but that's just what came to mind.

    • @SyntheticFuture
      @SyntheticFuture Місяць тому

Yes and no. A talented musician can make even the worst instrument sound great. So from an information standpoint this video has 0 information.
It's a great sounding and looking demo for sure, but it says nothing about the experience with the instrument. How much post processing was done? How was the patching experience? What are the limitations with this instrument? What workflow was used?
There's nothing wrong with a great sounding and looking demo but when it comes to informing a purchase they are basically useless.

I remember your video about they OG Polybrute and how much you loved it and then I got to play it the first time in a music store. It was love on the first sight. Time just vanished and somehow 2h went by until I got back up and had to leave because the store was closing.
Later that year I got one myself and it is my favorite instrument to this day.
Earlier this year I got try the Polybrute 12 at Superbooth and they somehow manged to do it again. Sat down to play and time just became a blur. I hope I'll be able to add one to my studio eventually.

I feel more compelled to make music now, and honestly this is better marketing for a hardware synth then I could have expected (I can't buy one now - can't afford one yet). You didn't need to talk about its features. You didn't need to justify the price point, or talk about the creators. You showed what it could do. And best of all, it felt achievable.

This is definitely my dream synth. It's _the synth_. Unfortunately it's out of my league financially but that's ok. Many memorable stories of my childhood were somehow related to being extremely excited about something I couldn't get, at least for the time being. Growing older I realize that the real prize is being able to get so excited about something that it's hard to stay in my pants. Not being able to afford the big brute with an acceptable sacrifice somewhere else won't stop me from making banger tracks.
Thank you Benn for putting this out. It's an extraordinary video loaded with nostalgia, longing and beauty. I will appreciate beautiful videos like this, keep on dreaming and refusing to grow up. Whoever is reading this, I sincerely hope you will too. Peace!

Just when I thought my "Gear acquisition syndrome" was under control. 😢
So interesting comparing this emotional tour with Cameron's (Venus Theory) rationalisation of where the instrument fits into his work. Even though both videos focus on the cinematic potential offered by the Polybrute 12, this piece is a dive into the joy and excitement of a new toy as seen in Ben's face. By 15' 15" we're deeply into carving out the figure resident in the stone and I love the dystopian images chosen to accompany the improv here which reminded me starkly of Robert Polidori's photo documentary book "Zones of Exclusion" Pripyat and Chernobyl.
As I commented in response to Cameron's piece, without prior experience of Polybrute it's hard to imagine sitting at this new instrument and not feeling a sense of bewilderment at its scope and complexity.
Both of these artists have cut through to a personal relationship with this luxurious fantasy land bus of an instrument which I know I would probably never gain.
Interestingly, demand, for what Cameron has described as a very expensive piece of kit, seems to have caused a shortage in supply which will not harm the marketing of what I think will be a niche instrument for sound design oriented artist who like to play as well as program, I would like to point out, from the perspective of a senior, that when instruments like Synclavier or Fairlight launched, with capabilities far inferior to this Arturia flagship, the prices were at the equivalent of hundreds of thousands, affordable only by big studios and elite, super rich clients.

This rocks man. I expected ralking and stuff and I like your candour so I was down for that, but this was just a vibe. I'm about it. I wish more people recognised that we can read the manual and just showed what something like this can sound like.

What a fantastic piece of art. The PB12, the piano, the imagery. Loved it!

Damn I knew I needed a Polybrute 12 to go with my Polybrute 6 😂
Magnificent and moving demo. I think this has just knocked the Moog Muse out cold

Wow wow wow! As amazing sounding the polybrute 12 is, the opening piano just blew me away. I do miss your review type reviews but this was a true showcase ❤
