Earlier this year, Above & Beyond performed some of their best-loved songs acoustically as part of a 15-piece band, across four sold out shows at London's famous Porchester Hall. The response from fans was overwhelming and led to two sold-out nights at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles in October, described by Billboard Magazine as "one of the finest and more memorable shows in EDM history."
Above & Beyond partnered with THUMP on the production and filming of the London shows to create a concert film that captures the Porchester Hall performances and the story behind the acoustic project. The songs performed at Porchester Hall also form the basis of the "Above & Beyond Acoustic" studio album, which was recorded in the spring and summer of 2013 and features a 24-piece orchestra.

I just discovered this album in late 2023 and I recommend it to everyone who will listen! Having a cocktail party?....put this concert up on the big screen!
Side note: I prefer this concert over their Hollywood Bowl production...by a lot... I enjoy the atmosphere more....and Annie was missing in the HB show.

Raul Santos there is a difference between a dj and a producer. AB are mostly producers, and most producers' work is never seen, because its boring, takes months and involves all the tough work, in AB's case they use a software on a pc, a full studio with tools and hardware, and make the sounds themselves from actual instruments instead of sampling it off others work or getting it off the internet, making them real producers.
a dj's work is to mix songs together, as smoothly as possible. most producers are good dj's because they made music so they can add more to the dj side, like samples or changing a song beforehand.
most people can learn to be a dj, but it takes more time, more skill and especially more feel to be a real producer.

I’m 64 and I’ve always been passionate about music. In a life filled with musical highlights, this show is the best I’ve ever seen. Anyone seriously interested in music should watch this show. During ‘Good for me’, I couldn’t contain my emotions any longer and started crying. Thank you Tony, Jono and Paavo. You’ve given us a masterpiece, a treasure to enjoy over and over again.

well yes, this is awesome, but as to "no one else in the electronic music industry has ever done anything like this" - not entirely true - BT did a whole tour w/ live instruments and a band around the time emotional technology was released.
The first time I ever heard of these performers was on my first hearing of this Live Porchester Hall recording - seriously - I had NO idea what their "standard trade" was. I just loved this recording from the start and have listened to it many times since. Can you imagine my utter surprise when I learned of their origin(s) in the electronic DJ / Trance music genre? To this day I have a hard time reconciling the two, however, this does not even for a moment impune the innate and developed musicianship of these writer performers. Their flexibility and versatility proves them to possess a high level of skill. They are also just nice people. I sent an email inquiry asking if and when they might ever do another non-electronic performance such as the Porchester effort. They responded the SAME DAY and said "...we are doing one right now..." and linked me to the schedule. I have wondered how much rehearsal time was required before performing this polished gem of a show. I love Zoe, Alex, and Anne so much and each one has a unique singing gift to share. They are so good at what they do....so perfectly chosen by the gentlemen writer performers. When you see the DJ side of them spinning the platters etc. you might never guess they possess the shear musical prowess to do a show like Porchester. WOW.

i watched the whole movie and i gotta say i have so much respect for all these people.

And who is here in 2021...this gig never fails to amaze me, move me, and enthrall the soul in me, Alex Vargas for me hits the sweet spot, sultry, confident, mysterious, superb voice. If a gig could be perfect in every respect then this is it.
As a classically trained percussionist and vocalists it so interesting to me just how different each vocalist is in their performance personalities. While Zoë and Annie were quite intimate in their performances with eyes closed, Alex has a piercing gaze with eyes wide open. It's like the ladies were inviting you into something delicately inside them with each line. Then Alex would almost scan the room looking for connections with what he was evoking. Both are quite moving but in such different ways that I was taken from an already captivated state from the beauty of their faces and tones to almost entranced. Very powerful.
With my strong musical background I have found many EDM stylist to be quite shallow in their musical substance while relying too heavily on the strength inherently found in the genre. This concert is a resounding tribute to the true musicians that are bringing EDM to a new level of REAL music encapsulated in the hypnotic power of electronic rhythms. A new bar has bee set. Above & Beyond has just proven they are the gold standard in vocal EDM.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and I appreciate you sharing it openly on UA-cam for us all to see. I look forward to seeing you in the states again.

actually, its not. Itsless a live recording, but a reproduction of a live recording thats been been edited. It has a high production quality. One of the best documentaries I've seen. And I agree, the music is amazing, the songwriting phenomenal, but the vocalists are unique and apart of Above and Beyond, IMO, it would have been great to see them included.

2024, and here I am listing to this Masterpiece (again) from A&B. This version is only spoiled by the ads. When I first played this gig some years ago now, it was uninterrupted right thru. Still, every minute it hits my soul, my heart, and brings me to tears.
It's just so beautiful, what a God send these three vocalists were chosen. If I have a favourite it's Alex. But they are all just so sublime.

I'm happy to say that it's the exact opposite. Just go and listen to anything A&B play on their podcast and compare to almost anything made 10 or even 20 years ago. Of course that there has always been and always will be a lot of shallow/boring/repetitive/overused stuff in EDM, as is the case with any kind of music, but lets not say things are worse.

Who is here again in 2019 wondering just how amazing Above & Beyond has been and that they are still here today creating such great music.
i first saw above & beyond in 2007, and then in 2010, i had almost a long break from this genre of music for some time to explore other music genres i enjoy, but in 2017 at friends convinced me to come see them at wembley in london and it was so great, and I've also just seen them at creamfields this year in 2019, they are still incredible and still pushing the envelope for their genre of music!.. my next hope is to see them in acoustic form like this concert, long live A&B :)

I knew Above and Beyond as a trance DJ's and now after some years I wanted to see what music they are now making and I cannot believe what I see in my eyes! It doesn't even close to trance or DJ's, but I really enjoyed this
no, they are just firstly musicians before they are DJs, they are exceptional song writers because they have a solid understanding of music from classical backgrounds and so forth. They made it big producing trance music. They are putting on a concert to demonstrate their musical roots.
ScottBOnline Oh, now I understand that. looks like I don't know so much about Above & Beyond, But I really like their music, especially trance ones. My favorite is "Can't Sleep" which I've heard first on "Gatecrasher Forever" album in 2007. Since then I discovered their other music and I've been listening to it till 2011.
I first saw Above and beyond live in 2007, seems like a long time ago now! :) good for me, is my favourite.

What should I say? I'm nearly 65 now, listening to music since the 60th. There is a lot of music which is emotionaly driven, but this music drives the emotions. Magic, sometimes listening with tears in my eyes ...

Absolutely obsessed, this group of musicians is a part of me and I'm 100% positive that the gates of Heaven will be greeting me with their sounds when I make my way there one day. I'm so pleased with my younger self for connecting with this music while my peers were bopping along to their 'dougies' and 'catdaddies'. Almost a decade later and I just want to high five my shy little high school self.

2021 and I’m here again, this concert brings me so much hope
10 months ago I watched this thru covid and sang along to the beautiful voices of the female singers and the male singers too. I listened over and over again.
Today I had this tune in my head after feeling very calm and in a sence, a spiritual feeling came over me with a tune da dun da dun da duuumm.. I cudnt remember where I heard it from. Then I remembered I was watching a concert during lockdown while I was still working and I am there still today through it all... I searched and searched for it even Google da dum da dum da dummm 🤣🤣 but I've found it. ABOVE AND BEYOND. my god I just absolutely love love love this concert. PLEASE COME TO IRELAND. 🙏 I'm soo happy to watch this again and feel happy in my heart. I feel much better now. 10mths ago I felt like I was dying inside of many things. My soul was crying and I was in soo much internal distress this got me thru it. I prayed each day to find help find hope find release.. I didn't get the professional help I was hoping for sadly but I found ways to combat that failure.. They failed me. I didn't fail my myself I saved myself from my hurt. My deep hurt. I love this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the top of the world. Thank you for your amazing music. God bless. God bless you all.
