Good to see someone actually melting their gold dust. I save my gold in a bank box as well. However, mine is for my wife's retirement as I'll do my gold hunting until I drop.
Watching this vid, I learned more than ANY other similar videos because you took the time to explain some of the subtle things that others seem to intentionally skip over, like the flux mix. I'm older than you by a couple decades and still learning. Thanks.
Amazing! We know gold is worth a lot, but when you see the grams weighed and entered into a value calculator and see those numbers? Man you are really knocking the top Off. Way to go, Dan!
always love a good melt ....be careful with that beard Dan...beautiful Gold Bar.... Hank Chapman Flux is a great all around flux too..we use a thinner with it to get a smooth pour.Good idea to hold onto your metals Dan.....great vid ...me and Slim always love watching them.
A couple quick tips, you don't need to add that much Flux when you're doing a melt. You shouldn't have to break Flux off of it. Also, you should almost immediately quench the metals when they solidify. Give it 20 or so seconds to harden and throw it in some water! It strengthens the metal a ton! Great video!!

That beard, all that gold. I'm telling you this guy is going to get a dragon, and I don't think his local pest control guy is going to be qualified to deal with a dragon infestation.
However, with one dragon, a long robe, a wizzardly top cover and a wooden staff made of ironwood he certainly could convince an entire region to make golden sacrifices to the kiln 😆

Hi Dan ( from a fellow Canuck.) I left some comments along the way. You may have answered them and I just haven't found them. I watched some of your video's ( out of order of course ) A couple of days ago you smelted some into a bar. What purity do you get? ( actually this video ) What's the cost to register a claim? Is it OK to pan anywhere as long as not on some ones claim? I'm in Ontario and would like to drive out to the west coast and to Alaska and pan just for fun. How much is the ferry ride at Lytton and when does it run? I take it's powered by the current, point the bow upstream and away she goes. That part of the world is as close to heaven as you can get this side of the pearly gates.
Great video Dan, I love melting gold. I stack firebrick as a kiln on top of a blacksmith forge, it works pretty well for small pours. I usually do 10 grams at a time but find it freezes pretty fast and doesn't make a nicely shaped bar at times.

How fun is that. I make my own lead ingots from shooting range scrap. I have around 1,000 lbs that I use for casting bullets. I have wanted to build a kiln to melt the copper jackets into a ingot. I have 2 5 gallon buckets of jackets. I saw plans on how to make one and I have most of the supplies to make it. That's going to make a great retirement some day. Keep adding them up. Fill that safe.
