- We're finally back with a new video! We finish up our refit for the Carribean having re-built our rudder, replaced our keel bolt washers, replaced a bulkhead, installed lazy jacks, bought 2 new anchors, and serviced our standing rigging. Lots and lots of big jobs, but it all needed to be done in order to prepare the boat for the next year of crusing the tropics! In this video we visit Sailing Uma, get some free water shoes, take the boat out for the frist time all year, test out our hydrostatic release, and service the keel bolts.

In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Not positive about this but I don't think your supposed to put a rubber washer under the stainless one on any keel bolt. Most washers are just bedded with a bit of sealant just before torqueing.
I removed a rubber washer that was there when the last set of washers were installed so I just repeated the procedure. The rubber squeezed down so intensly that it practially liquified under that torque so it's acting like a caulking if anything
