Jase has picked up on a few new trends this season as teams find new ways to capitalise on the extra space created from an attacking scrum. Meanwhile, other clubs play out a planned set that targets specific defenders or spots on the field.
How defending teams set up from these scrums is where the tactical game of cat-and-mouse begins.
Some defensive systems prefer to split their line from a mid-field scrum, leaving three defenders on either side of the field regardless of how their opposition shapes up. It's a system that relies heavily on backrowers or halves breaking hard from the scrum and making up the numbers from the inside.
Others will match the numbers of the attacking team, mirroring their movements across the field before the scrum is fed. While this approach makes sense on paper, leaving just two defenders to cover half a field has it's own challenges.

Easily the best footy channel on YT and socials. Other channels love to borrow your analysis without giving credit. Bums, lol

Sua is an absolute cheat code. No one can keep up with him on a scrum. Should be a try every time. Honestly NRL teams should score a lot more frequently on scrums imo. A 4-2 split with your most potent weapon at first receiver is near impossible to stop if executed well

He's a problem in these areas for sure. Not every NRL team has a Sua, though. The better teams are finding new ways to play to their strengths (eg Roosters with Manu and Dragons with Sloan/Suli)

That pair of tries from the chooks were indistinguishable, I'm seeing double.
